Bedford & District Cat Club Show - 25th April 2009

John Hansson

Popular show with a good entry, lovely early summer weather with the sun shining (not that you get to see much of it from inside a show hall), excellent atmosphere, this is a great venue for a cat show. My thanks to Linda, Alan & committee for the invitation, I would very much like to make a comment on the Overall Best In Show winner selected by Joyce Green , what a truly amazing specimen he is, Karen Holder’s MYLYNN MAGNIFIQUE, a Black Silver spotted Oriental Longhair kitten of not yet 8 months, he truly lives up to his name & makes the hairs on the back of your neck prickle, combined with what is the most wonderfully relaxed trusting temperament, he looks quite superb, a pure joy to look at & admire. he truly is a great credit to both owner & breeder, his condition was immaculate, overall he is perfectly drooly, something to enjoy & be very proud of, as I am sure both parties are. To his breeder I would say she has bred some superb type Oriental Longhairs in recent years but it does not get any better than this, but please keep trying just in case, ……………..………..I want one, just like him.

Foreign Imperial Grand Champion, Male; IMP GR CH Not Awarded.

1st ALGER-STREETS GR CH TYPHAST HURRICANE. 76 30. 01-06-06.

Brown Spotted Bengal, strong masculine lad, beautifully grown & developed. Though I would ideally prefer slightly more rounding to the wedge, the cheeks were high & well defined, the muzzle itself could be more pronounced, has very slight hint of gentle profile break, a mite long in the nose, adequate chin, bite good, good wide set canines. Tending to prick up his ears which are a good medium size, rather greasy interiors, needed a tidy up. Eyes large full wide oval, bright definite green. Strong neck, well grown long muscular body, strong legs & paws, slight taper to his medium length moderately thick tail. Has a few patches of missing fur round the area of his left ear, which though cleared by the DV did nonetheless detract (particularly at this level), his coat was otherwise dense medium length & was very soft. Very good facial markings showing double cheek ribbons with a complicated scarab on his brow, large & varied size spots of different shapes, quite a few of which were rosetted, very good leg bracelets & tail bands. Very good colour of almost tawny gold background, with as a result very good contrast to the pattern, black well up the hocks, with solid coloured tail tip also. Very fussy & up on his toes handled well, physical condition excellent.

Foreign Imperial Grand Champion, Female; IMP GR CH Not Awarded.

 1st NOBLE GR CH TROIKA NIJINSKY. 16a. 15-11-06.

 Russian Blue, very sweet lady, though perhaps a little petite & her coat was a little too flat. Type wise most attractive, quite a short wedge form the eyes down, with good prominence to the whisker pads, profile has gentle concave curve to create the required angle in profile, quite good chin, bite good. Ears are beautifully set, being tall, good larger size, light inner ear furnishings. Eyes have good wide almond shape with gentle slant, very good green colour. Body is graceful & very lithe, I would prefer a little more muscle tone, slim legs, small oval paws, well balanced length gently tapering tail. Her top coat is beautifully soft but lacks the density of undercoat to create the more typical double coat that is an essential requirement for the breed. Her colour is a medium blue with soft translucence giving it a sheen, some white hairs over the shoulders (possibly an old vaccination scar). Her condition was super & she has a wonderful confident nature.

 Oriental Imperial Grand Premier, Male; IMP GR PR Not Awarded.

 1st SMITH’S GR PR MOUSTACHES FENTON FAUVE. 37fn. 22-06-99.

Apricot, an older lad who looked in a great many respects extremely impressive for his senior years & I confess I deliberated for some time as whether to award or not. Broad wide strong masculine wedge, his profile though still showing strength has a slight angle at the bridge of the nose, good chin & his bite is not only level but impressive in that he still has all his teeth (which is more than I can claim) & healthy looking gums also. His ears are his main let down in that though set well apart, need to be larger & as result also don’t quite pull off the wide flare to the base so well, this makes them a little out of balance with the strong head. Eyes fractionally wide whilst retaining an oriental shape & slant, a very good definite green colour possessing good degree of brightness also. Yes he is undoubtedly a little overweight one of the pleasures no doubt of mature years & far better that the alternative, long well proportioned legs & large oval paws (suiting his size), tail moderately fine but would benefit by being a little longer. Lovely coat, beautifully prepared very close lying & also a very good shorter length when ones considers his age, sleek & with subtle sheen present. Colour an extremely impressive hot sandy tone, slight paling to his inner legs, beautifully free of pattern. His condition was superb & as he ever did he chunters when you take him out but there was not nor ever was any malicious intent, Had his ears been just a little larger I would have succumbed. British Black,

Chocolate or Lilac Tortie Adult; CC & 1st Not Awarded.

2nd DAY’S ALDIX NARNIA. 21. 06-04-08.

At this stage of development her type is not sufficiently ‘British’ to justify a higher award & she still looks like a very young kitten. Head very narrow & lacking fullness & breadth, cheeks still to fill, the muzzle a little pinched, rounded brow, chin requires depth, bite good. Ears moderately small but set a little too close & as a result high. Eyes are quite large & well rounded, slight green to the inner rim otherwise golden orange colour. Body still quite small & lacking development being long & narrow, rather long in the leg which compounded the problem, as they are on the slender side, with neat paws, balanced tail of medium length. Coat laying flat requiring a greater degree of density, still soft but a good shorter length. Colour quite bright & generally well mingled with good bright shades of red, this tends to highlight the odd stripe. Her condition was excellent & her temperament very sweet, but a considerable amount of growing up to achieve before she is ready to compete at adult level.

Considered for & Awarded BOB.

SHEPHERD’S CH TRUBRIT MARMIGHT. 21. 06-04-08.

Black, though still very young & could ideally be a little larger she was otherwise balanced & very proportionate, albeit something of a hot-headed Tortie madam. Pleasing type with apple rounded face, the cheeks well filled, brow nicely rounded, quite a broad nose, chin okay, bite good (upon cursory inspection). Well placed ears, moderately small, creating a tidy appearance without distorting the head shape. Stunning vibrant copper coloured eyes, scowling so took a bit of encouraging to open them wide. Body not overly large but compact & well proportioned with well balanced legs, paws & tail. Very good degree of crispness & density to the coat, could be a mite shorter. Very well intermingled, dense black areas with bright shades of red well in evidence. Her condition was excellent, well presented, with a little more maturity could do well, just needs to relax a little & more importantly perhaps learn some manners.

Black Silver Tabby Neuter, Female;

 1st PC & BOB. COULTHURST’S SHADOWSMINE SILVER SHIMMER. 18. 12-07-04.

Quite a mature lady of compact cobby type & very good type. Fat face with well developed full rounded cheeks, well rounded brow line, quite a broad nose, chin & bite good. Moderately small ears, set well apart, the appearance neat & tidy. Well open eyes, the shape round, just about scrapes hazel but with more yellow pigmentation than I would have preferred. Very pleasing, quite cobby body, with medium length well proportioned legs, good paws, medium length & thickness to her tail. Excellent degree of crispness to her dense coat, medium length, a little on the loose side no doubt made worse by the recent spate of good weather. Good facial markings, with cheek flashes, well marked ‘M’ on the brow, body has quite well marked Classic pattern with some butterfly over the shoulders, lines down her back, well matched incomplete oysters, very good leg bracelets & broad tail bands. Her black could be a little denser & the silver ground a little clearer to sharpen the contrast more but she was worthy of her certificate despite this. Her condition was excellent, quite a reserved gentle lady.

 2nd SCHMIT’S PLUMEPIERRE SILVER HELENA. 18. 24-06-08.

Very impressive pattern but type wise still at the slightly rangy adolescent phase that some young ‘Brits’ get stuck at. The head to broaden & fill out a little more, the brow rounded nose requires a little more breadth, chin a mite weak, bite though was good. Ears quite well placed & a good smaller medium size. Well open round shape to the eyes, the colour a pleasing dual green/hazel tone. She still needs to broaden in the body a little more which hopefully maturity will remedy, proportionate legs & paws, tail could be a little heavier, balanced length. Her coat was short but lay a little close & the texture still very soft, requiring a little more density. Excellent facial striations, with ribbons on the cheeks, ‘M’ on the brow some thumbprints on her ears, lines run over the head & along her back, good butterfly wings over the shoulders, good oysters, broad leg bracelets & tail bands, with spots onto the toes, black heels, eye rims & lips. Very good dense black pattern with excellent clear contrast to the silver sixpence ground colour. Temperament was excellent, easy to handle.

Snow Spotted Bengal Neuter, Male;

 1st PC & BOB. FORDHAM’S RAJIQUE LAKOTA SPIRIT. 76b 30. 20-03-07.

AOC Eye Colour, pleasing type lad, a little noisy but not to infer difficult. Medium wedge with rounded lines, cheeks showing good height & definition, muzzle quite good breadth to the pads, gentle rounded brow with small break to the nose, slightly puffed nose leather, I would have preferred a little more depth of chin, bite good, wide set canines. Ears I would have preferred a little smaller ideally which the slightly flared base exacerbated, but set well. Quite large full almost round oval shape, very bright almost aqua toned colour. Body good length & strong muscular proportions, good bone to the legs, round paws, medium length & thickness to the tail. His coat though perhaps a little long was dense & incredibly soft to the touch, laying quite close with lovely glossy surface shine. His head markings were showing, spotted whisker pads, good cheek stripes, complicated brow marking, generally small spots on the body where perhaps the contrast could be more extreme, excellent leg bracelets & tail rings, the ground colour of beautifully warm rich sepia tone with deep rich brown pattern elements, warmer glow in the muzzle, chin & cheeks, well coloured hocks. Lovely condition, very grumbly & noisy but that aside handled really well.

 AC Persian Senior Neuter;

1st EDWARDS’S GR CH & PR DELAVALE SWEETDREAMS. 12a 7. 25-06-02.

Cream Bi-Colour, most attractive lady, lovely type, the face well rounded with filled cheeks, well rounded skull, deep stop, short nose, with well formed nose leather, good chin & very good bite. Ears moderately small & set well apart, well furnished interiors. The eyes are large & well open with a pleasing degree of boldness, light gold in colour. Body compact & with good substance low on the well boned legs, round paws, moderately short, well balanced full bushy tail. Coat was full & well prepared, very good ruff & frill, soft silky texture. The white areas clean & well prepared, soft cream tone on her face the cream colour on her back & tail though slightly warmer were still with soft powdery effect. Her condition & temperament both excellent.

 2nd WILLIAMS’S PR RIASCATZ SIMPLY RED. 12a 5. 31-03-06.

 Red Bi-Colour, large substantial lad, excellent substance & weight. Fat face with rounded well filled cheeks, broad muzzle, good rounding to the skull, deep stop, quite a short nose, good depth chin, bite under. Ears set low on the broad skull, reasonably small, well feathered interiors, fitting well into the head shape. Large well open round eyes, excellent coppery orange colour but the rims required a little tidying up. Strong body mature & well developed compact cobby shape, low on the sturdy legs & paws, his tail was balanced length though could be a little heavier, quite a full brush. Coat was a very good length & density, ideally requiring a softer silkier feel to it & the tummy & under parts a little more preparation, full ruff & good frill on his front. Inverted white on his face, with white also on the legs, chest & tummy, the red areas on his head, body & tail a bright shade & free of pattern, with one or two smaller patches also evident. His physical condition excellent, very good temperament, would benefit with little more preparation to make him sparkle more.

 3rd NICHOLLS’S CH & GR PR YOONEEK SHEER MAGIC. 51 4. 22-07-98.

Black Tortie Cameo, AV SLH Kitten;

1st JOHNSON’S AKDAMAR TAZI. 13d. 29-10-08.

Odd Eyed Auburn Turkish Van, charming young chap of lovely type & very good pattern elements. Though still to achieve the substantial wedge (understandable in view of his age), he has good width & a well developed muzzle, very slight perception of break at the bridge of his nose in profile, good depth chin, bite good. Ears are moderately tall & good for size, shell pink interiors with some feathering interior furnishings. Eyes quite large full oval shape, pale blue to the left & more hazel tone to the right. Body perfectly in keeping with his young age, well boned legs, neat tufted paws, balanced tail still to obtain its fullness to the slightly wispier brush. Soft silky coat, still with the wispier fringes of the young, length of coat commensurate with his age, with some length becoming apparent to the knickerbockers. Excellent well prepared, chalky white coat, with head markings slightly smaller on the right side, separated by the vertical blaze between, clean cut off point at the body line to his coloured tail, the auburn markings a very good bright tone. His condition & presentation were both really excellent, quite a fussy young chap, delightful purr.

2nd BERGMNAN’S SOMERISLE THEODORE. 64 36. 22-08-08.

 Black Smoke Maine Coon, very handsome kitten of very promising type, just a little let down by his lack of preparation. His head is as yet a little long, hopefully he will continue to widen as he matures to give balance, the cheeks are high & well defined, strong square shaped muzzle, gentle concave curve in profile, deep chin, excellent bite. Ears large & pricked tall, the tufted tips enhancing their size, well furnished, but rather grubby interiors. Eyes quite a good for size, round in shape, slight oblique setting, hazel in colour. Good neckline, long strong well muscled body, very good rectangular shape, strong legs, large paws, wonderful length of tail which had a very good degree of flow to it also. Coat has good length, still to achieve a little more density, shaggy tummy & good britches, but a little lank requiring more show preparation to make the most of it, could otherwise have potentially won this class. He has a good black top coat with well defined contrast to his silver under coat, paler where he has the makings of a ruff, the base of his ears & tummy His actual physical condition was sound, his temperament very agreeable, has the potential to do well if his grooming is improved, the cat itself can only do so much the rest is up to the exhibitor.

3rd HAMILTON’S LADYDOLL FOREST. 66w. 24-12-08.

Mitted Seal Colourpointed Ragdoll, a most promising kitten of excellent type, wonderful relaxed confident temperament, but looking rather lost in such a large double pen, particularly for his very young age. Swollen gums due to imminent teething, lovely white chin extending through the chest & tummy, white mittens on the front paws, large seal patch on one back leg. Super condition, lovely coat, eye colour could be a little deeper.

 X3rd IZZARD’S DUBROVA SUMATRA. 13c 2. AC British Debutante Adult;
1st EVANS’S EVAVALE DIMPLESNDOTS. 30g. 20-07-08.

Blue Tortie Spotted, very young at only just over 9 months but very together, pattern not her best feature but her type is very pleasing. Very promising well rounded apple face, cheeks filling & rounding well, broad muzzle, good rounded brow, straight nose, chin & bite both good. Small well placed ears which did not detract from the rounded head shape & looked neat & tidy. Round well open eyes, very good golden orange tone. Body though still to mature more fully was beautifully proportioned & compact, the legs & paws, both good, moderately heavy medium length tail. Her coat whilst still a little soft (not out of keeping with her age), was dense, could be a little shorter. Unusually large patches of colour with good facial markings showing stripes on the cheeks & brow markings, the body pattern needed to be viewed from a distance to be able make out the spotting which was also showing a little linkage, lovely spotted tummy, leg bracelets more clearly defined, tail rings I would have preferred a little more distinct. The blue ground was soft with a good subtle soft cream background to the deeper cream spotting where present. Her condition & temperament both excellent, really just where you would wish her to be with regard to her development in relation to her age.

2nd RUTHERFORD’S ANIMOSO PIANINO. 40 4. 19-08-07.

 Lilac Colourpointed, though still to broaden out more, her coat texture was super. Cheeks need to be a little fuller & more rounded to give the head breadth, reasonable muzzle, rounded brow, straight medium length nose, chin adequate, bite good. Tends to carry her ears marginally high & they are a fraction wide, good medium size. Eyes well open & round in shape, the typical paler blue that is typical of Colourpointed. Body still a mite narrow for my preference, as result not as compact as it could be, quite well boned legs & paws, broad medium length tail. Excellent short, thick dense coat, with a lovely crackly crisp texture. Cool clear magnolia body colour with excellent contrast to the points which are a little too blue in tone for preference requiring more evidence of pink to give warmth. Her temperament was gentle & composed, excellent condition.

3rd SOOTH’S FELDICATZ COSMOPOLITAN. 22a. 28.04.08.

Blue Tortie & White, though still looking extremely kittenish, a lot of work had gone into her coat with really excellent demarcation between the patches of colour, which were free of odd white hairs, congratulations.

AC Oriental Limit;

1st CLAY’S METAXA MARQUESA. 37h. 29-04-08.

Chocolate Tortie, young lithe queen. Good length wedge, small muzzle pinch, the profile has a slight dip & ideally her chin requires a little more depth , bite okay. Ears are large & have quite well flared base, set well apart. Slightly wide eyes whilst still possessing a very good almond shape & slant, colour I would have preferred more vivid definite green tone. Good neckline, lithe yet firm well toned body, slender limbs, dainty paws, fine whiptail of balanced length. She does have a lovely close lying, well prepared sleek coat, with excellent texture. The chocolate has a good degree of warmth & was overall well broken with quite a lot of bright red colour giving it good degree of brightness, some baring which the red picks up on. Her temperament & condition were both excellent.

 2nd SMITH’S FIROUSI FORYOUREYESONLY. 48 40d. 29-04-07.

 Red Colourpointed Bi-Colour, quite a masculine looking chap who though not overly large was quite muscular & weighty. Medium length wedge, some jowling present, excellent profile, chin requires a little more strength to it, some gingivitis but the bite itself otherwise good. Ears set wide apart & good for size, require a little more flare to their base. Eyes good oriental shape & slant the colour requiring a little more depth & brilliance to the blue, this may well be due to the quite high white overlaying the eyes. Body though I would prefer him larger was hard & well muscled, slim legs oval paws, fine tail rather short for balance & with a small but definite irregularity at its tip, there is also some stud tail at the base which is being treated. Coat though short was slightly stary & open & as result not as close lying & sleek as I would have preferred. Due to his colour combination it actually made it quite difficult to assess exactly where his white was, I would have said it was quite high but if his body colours up more this will be more affirmative, random white over his muzzle, including his chin & also appeared to be on his legs & under parts also, red of an interesting tone, on the remainder of his mask ears & tail with some light tonal patched shading on his body also. Condition very good, very gentle fellow.

AC Siamese/Balinese Visitors Adult;

1st DUNCAN’S CH MALIKASIAM EMIR HARITH. 24b. 11-03-05.

 Chocolate Point Siamese, very masculine looking lad, a Chocolate Point by colour, who is screaming to be a Seal Point. Very flashy & stylish head on, longer length very even wedge, profile has a degree of undulation with a dip plus a bump on the nose & his chin requires more depth, bite fraction over. Ears large & beautifully set, with excellent wide flare to the base to complement the wedge. Eyes very well defined oriental shape & slant, excellent depth of blue, with such a snooty expression. Long elegant neckline, super body, long & well muscled, with long slim legs, neat paws, very good fine whip tail. Beautifully prepared, short close lying coat, lovely sleek finish with subtle sheen. Warm ivory body but with quite a degree of dark tonal shading along his back, the points are complete a little too so in actual fact as he is now quite hooded, complete stockings but the points are a cold bitter chocolate requiring more warmth, hence my opening comment, he would look much better if he were a Seal Point. His condition & temperament both really excellent.

 2nd RICHARDS’S DEBIKAT GRACIE-MAY. 32/1. 02-04-08.

 Seal Tabby Point, a very well balanced lady just looking a little petite & too mature a little more fully, would otherwise have won the class. Balanced even lines to her wedge, the profile almost straight, reasonable chin, bite very slightly splayed over. Ears very good larger size, wide flare to their base, very well set. Eyes have most pleasing oriental shape & slant, very good depth of blue to the colour with quite a haughty expression. Body still mature a little more fully but still relatively young so has time on her side, slender limbs, neat paws, the tail quite fine & of generally well balanced length. Coat I would prefer just a little shorter but was close lying, slightly harsh along her lower back. Tracings generally well defined, with cheek stripes & good ‘M’, some thumbprints, good leg tracings, tail rings better towards the tip, more brindled towards the base, very good contrast to the virtually clear body. Her condition was excellent & quite a composed temperament, should continue to improve as she matures,

3rd CARTER’S MAFDET HONEY TRAP. 32/1. 11-05-08.

 Seal Tabby Point, quite a short strong wedge, excellent ears, eyes a little wide & full, very good depth of colour. Extremely small for an adult, proportionate legs & paws, good tail. Close lying coat, excellent texture. Very good tabby tracings, very good condition, manners leave much to be desired, quite a fiery little minx.
