Vet Invents The First Microchip Cat Flap!A vet from Guernsey, who was continuously being asked about cat flap design and functionality, launched a revolutionary one of his own. The cat flap has a unique selling feature – it synchronises with a cat’s existing microchip number to selectively control access through the cat flap. This intelligent cat flap is called the Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap from Pet Porte Ltd. It was the first time that microchips were used in conjunction with cat flaps and the product has already been winning awards. Without
the need for a magnet, disc, or any kind of collar at all, the Pet
Porte Microchip Cat Flap is able to recognise individual cats to allow
or restrict access. The Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap is a patented
design with a strong magnetic latch and locking system that shuts
quickly and securely. Cats without a pre-programmed microchip will not
be able to gain access through the Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap.Aside from the microchip access function, the Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap has a number of other clever features. Owners have the added benefit of the ‘Vet Mode’ and ‘Night Mode’ functions. The ‘Vet Mode’ programme allows cats in, but does NOT allow them out, useful when a trip to the vet is on the calendar! The ‘Night Mode’ is another excellent function, and uses an automatic daylight sensor to lock the door as ambient light levels drop keeping cats inside and safe. Using both ‘Vet Mode’ and ‘Night Mode’, cats will be able to come in, just not out again! A welcoming audible beep (which can be turned off) provides an alert when a programmed cat enters though the flap and also acts as a useful training and reassurance aid. The Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap recognises 15 digit UK/European FDX-B microchips. Referring to their cat’s microchip number, owners are able to check their pet’s chip is suitable on the company’s website at www.petporte.com. The Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap is easy to operate via two paw-shaped buttons. Modern ‘cat’ and ‘moon-shaped’ lights indicate the various modes. When the unit is first installed, the owner simply holds down the green paw button for ten seconds and passes their cat under the porch for the microchip to be programmed into the system. It is ideal for multi-cat households as up to 32 cats can be programmed into the Pet Porte, all you need to do is repeat the above process for each cat – it’s as simple as that! ![]() The Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap can be installed in doors and glass, as well as solid and cavity walls. The flap in the interior section is transparent and a porch area (holding the microchip reader) is incorporated in the external section. A plug-in power supply is provided with a 2.5 metre cable (extension leads are sold separately). The Pet Porte cat flap was invented and patented by Guernsey vet, David Chamberlain. It is the first in a number of new technology products being brought to market by Pet Porte Ltd to help owners and their pets enjoy a more comfortable life. The Pet Porte Microchip Cat Flap is available in both UK and European versions and is now available as either a door or a wall model in white, brown or a limited edition black. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee and Pet Porte offer an 18-month warranty as long as the product is registered following purchase. Each Pet Porte microchip cat flap is assembled by hand at the company’s factory in Guernsey and each unit are individually tested to optimise its performance before it is dispatched. The use of a microchip in this way encourages microchipping and responsible pet ownership. The Pet Porte microchip cat flap is currently being marketed in the UK through veterinary practices, other specialist outlets and online from www.petporte.com .
