MANCHESTER & DISTRICT CAT CLUB SHOW – 2ND MAY 2009

Alison Beattie
My thanks to Dorothy for inviting me to judge at this show and to the committee for making me feel welcome. It was nice to see so many familiar faces after my time away from the fancy. Thanks must also go to my friend Kaye Wilson who (foolishly) volunteered to steward for me and was great support on the day. Perhaps I may return the favour…some day.

Class 824 - SUPER PET: AC LONG/SEMI LONGHAIR MALE

SP  Jackson’s MC SIMBA
What a charming boy!! Lovely, large framed, red tabby boy. Trim and athletic physique…no flabby tummy here. Beautifully prepared and presented. His flowing coat had been groomed to perfection, no snarls or tags as warrants entries into this class. He wore his lovely large ear furnishings with confidence. His eyes were large, bright and expressive. Later he began to demonstrate how one should swish the plumed tail to its best advantage.  Stylish boy….

Class 826 – SUPER PET: AC SHORTHAIRED, MALE

SP Kidd’s MC ALFRED
What a sweet and delightful boy. Beautifully presented and prepared, tabby and white boy. I had to check my judges book again as I thought he was too pretty to be a male. He was calm and confident; a delight to handle. The white of his coat was pristine and the tabby pattern he wore on the white like a designer jacket was accessorised by a splotch on his nose and a cream splotch under his chin, sporting a fashionable solid black spine line…very chic. Lovely large, bight eyes that were to die for. He wears his 11 years like a much younger cat….stupendous exhibit…a stunning example of a real  HP show cat and a credit to his owner. A real pleasure for him to be my BIS cat.
Res SP Jackson’s MC ALEX
Asleep in his litter tray…bless! And what a tart this boy turned out to be…he knows how to work a judge!! Well defined tabby markings on his head. The tabby markings on his flank were not quite as well defined but overall, ..very attractive. Perhaps could have done with a tad more show preparation…however it is that time of year when they are losing their coats. He was very experienced and friendly boy…just what this judge needs. I would suggest however that rolling around on the trolley with your legs in the air, does nothing for your  well endowed middle…some things are better to be laid on and not put on display. Another delightful exhibit and unfortunate to be up against my winner today.
Also Stewart’s MC BOBBIT
Large and loveable boy but unfortunately overweight. Black tabby with very expressive eyes that offered silent observation with every tweak of his eyebrows. Longer hairs on this boy gave him quite an unkempt appearance especially since his coat was quite open and could have done with more show preparation. I remember this boy from many years ago and he’s still as delightfully sweet and friendly now as he was then. Exactly the temperament that one would expect of  a HP show cat.  Lovely to see an old friend.

Class 827 – SUPER PET: AC SHORTHAIRED FEMALE

SP Kidd’s MC DAISY
Younger lady..only 3 years old but wore her serenity like a much older cat. She looked quite the unassuming  black and white cat in her pen but once out and  in our arms she just sparkled her way into our affections. The  black of her coat was glossy and her white was clean and bright. I loved the fact that in all those pink pads she had one black pad.  She was our wrap-around cat of the day, using her paws and tail to her advantage. She loved being on her back in our arms and was generous with her cuddles and affection. She was very inquisitive and wanted to know what was going on all around her.  A lovely sweet girl  who was a pleasure to handle. Another super example of a HP show cat.
Res SP Bower’s TALLULAH
A much older lady than my winner but looking  exceptionally good for her age. Her heritage is quite obvious but does make for a very pretty exhibit. A blue tortie with a splendid white bib, sporting a close curly coat. Her coat felt glorious …I could have squidged her for quite sometime but that would have just become perverse. Her colouring was beautifully subtle..as one would expect of a dilute tortie. Unfortunately could have done with a tad more show preparation.
Also Hutchinson’s LILYBETH
This young lady was not a happy bunny although my steward was able to handle her without it becoming a major issue. Beautifully prepared and exquisitely presented this very pretty girl perhaps would have done better if she hadn’t been so nowty on the day. She was sporting a nick in one of her ears suggestive that she’s nowty at home from time to time too. She had big, beautifully bright eyes that were pale in colour. She was a wonderously muscular cat who’s coat was a dead give away to her heritage. Fabulous coat with beautiful markings that was fine, soft and laid close to the body. Just wish her language had been a bit more socially acceptable.

Class 829 – BLACK & WHITE SH ADULT

1st & BOC Kidd’s MC DAISY
Class 833 – AOC SHORTHAIR ADULT
1st & BOC Jones’ MAXWELL
Another beautifully prepared and presented exhibit. A dark grey coloured coat with an unmistakeable, brilliant white patch on his tummy. A shy but exceptionally sweet boy who handled well. Lovely bright eyes that were interested in everything that went on in the show hall despite his shyness. He felt glorious to the touch, another measure of his owners attention to detail concerning his show preparation. Keep up the good work.
2nd Jones’ WEEBLE
Sadly this boy was not happy at coming out of his pen and therefore was difficult to assess. He just wanted to be left alone and his stress was manifesting into physical symptoms. Pretty colour of cream on quite a fluffy coat. Good size and well developed for his 10 months. I hope that he settled down once he was home and in familiar arms.

Class 836 – AC LONGHAIR OR SEMI LONGHAIR KITTEN

I have given the exhibitor and show team the benefit of the doubt concerning the title of this class as according to the catalogue and my judges book,  both exhibits entered  are shorthaired.
1st  Davies’ LIBBY
If they did korats in tortie coats..this girl would have fit the bill perfectly. And what awful language from such a young lady!! Naughty tortie indeed. However she was all mouth and no trousers. Although a blue tortie,  there were ghost tabby markings on her legs and tail. Her one cream foot sported pink pads…which I loved. A lovely heart shaped faced with lovely golden eyes. She obviously was not happy with us so we didn’t force the issue. I hope she settles down into her show career.

Class 837 – AC SHORTHAIR KITTEN

1st & BOC Jackson’s MILLIE
What a chocolate box kitten!! Adorably sweet! Very attractive blue tabby and white colouring. Very exotic looking with a wide innocent and trusting expression. She loved us to bits and would happily have stayed tucked in the crook of my arm for the duration of the day. Well presented and prepared, a happy baby who took everything in her stride and let nothing upset her equilibrium. A joy and a delight to cuddle. Thank you to her owner.
2nd Doran’s GINGEE
Another youngster with bad language…what is with the youth of today? What a beautiful coat; spotted tabby  of what looked to be a sorrel colour absolutely dripping  with golden glitter although I could see no white despite the description in my book. Well presented. Very tense and unhappy young man when we had him out. However, after judging I saw him with his owner whom he obviously adored, just lolling in her arms. I understand that this was his first show so perhaps his earlier behaviour was understandable. I do hope that he settles down into his show career and begins to enjoy it.
