Manchester……….2.5.’09……….Brian Fox

My thanks to Dorothy for the invitation, and to the exhibitors who gave me a real treat with so many very high class Burmese – it’s great to see the proliferation of ‘typical-looking’ cats.

Class 391, Burmese Brown Adult (2)

1st; CC; BOB: Collin’s Gr. Ch. Artro Brown Anwen (4.8.’03).

Female. Fabulous in every way. Correct medium size; a little plump but muscular, and very elegant. Evenly tapering, balanced tail. Short, finely textured, coat has a sprinkling of white hairs across the shoulders. Stunningly beautiful head type; broad, and gently rounded on the brow and between perfectly shaped and proportioned ears, which are exquisitely set to follow the line of a short, strongly formed, wedge. Sensational eyes that have the essential upper line slant, combined with full lower line, to create the unique Burmese expression. In profile, a distinct, but unexaggerated, nose break, not quite straight nose of ideal length, and a straight line from the leather to a strong chin. Quite charming.

Class 399, Burmese Brown Kitten (3)

1st; BOB: Boardmans’ Amabile Brown Desdemona (28.10.’08).

Female. Elegantly proportioned and firmly fleshed, with a balanced, evenly tapering, tail. Coat of medium length and texture, has faint shadows on the stifles. Beautifully proportioned head is broad, with slight rounding of the top and brow, correctly set ears, and a short wedge. Large yellow eyes have just enough slant to the upper line, and a full, founded, lower. In profile, a distinct nose break, virtually straight nose, and a straight line from the nose to a strong chin. Fractionally undershot bite, the lower incisors just scissoring the uppers.

2nd: Collin’s Aureus Sweet Juliet (30.9.’08).

Female. Elegant and firmly muscled, with a balanced, evenly tapering, tail. Medium length, finely textured coat, with faint shadows on the stifles, some ticking, and a few white hairs on the back of the neck. Broad head, gently rounded on the top and brow, with well-set ears, and a short wedge. Large, pale yellow, eyes, set obliquely, with a full lower line. A distinct nose break, virtually straight nose, and a nose to chin line that could be fractionally squarer, though good depth to the chin.

3rd: Hall’s Sanlis Vashta Nerada (15.11.’08).

Female. Elegant conformation, though not quite the relative weight and muscle of the other two. A good tail easily balances. Coat of medium length and texture, has faint shadows on the stifles and above the chest. Head doesn’t have quite the excellent width to length ratio of the others, but well-set and shaped ears, and correctly set eyes with full lower line. A distinct nose break, virtually straight nose, and a good line from the nose to a firm chin. A very good class of, not-surprisingly, similar kittens.

Class 401, Burmese Chocolate Kitten (1)

1st; BOB: Kirkman’s Raweke Chocolate Surprise (4.10.’08).

Male. Fairly long body with strong limbs, firm muscle, and a balanced tail of good shape. Shortish coat, lying tightly, of very pale colour with darker points, and faint shadows on the stifles. Head should be broader and shorter, to be typical. Ears of good shape, but eyes need a more decided slant to the upper line. In profile, a flat above the eyes, modest nose break, and nose longer than ideal, though chin level.

Class 402, Burmese Lilac Kitten (1)

1st; BOB: Walmsley’s Raweke Hungry Horace (4.10.’08).

Male. Good size and well proportioned, with a balanced, evenly tapering tail, and finely textured coat of medium length. Good head width, and rounded to the top and brow, with well-set, proportionate ears. Top line of eye needs more slant to be ideal, but the lower line is full. In profile, a moderate nose break, straight nose that slopes slightly, and a level chin.

Class 411, Burmese Brown Neuter (3)

1st; PC; BOB: Jubb’s Maharani Gabrielle (14.8.’07).

Female. Petite and slim, with firm muscle and elegant conformation, with an ideally shaped and balanced tail, tapering evenly to a rounded tip. Short to medium length, finely textured coat of fairly dark, but rich, seal. Broad head with rounded top and brow, and a short wedge emphasised by well-set, proportionately sized, ears. Yellow eyes have a distinct slant with fuller lower line. In profile a distinct, and correctly shallow, nose break, slightly rounded nose, and a firm, level, chin.

Class 415, Burmese Red Neuter (1)

1st; PC; BOB: Catterick’s Gr. Pr. Nemorez Theredbaron (4.11.’03).

Medium size and proportionate, and a well-shaped tail that just balances. Pale coat should be shorter, and is rather woolly in texture and lie. Head should be broader for length, to better describe the desired short wedge. Neat, well set, ears, and pale eyes set obliquely, but could be fuller in the lower line. In profile, a flat forehead, moderate nose break, and straight nose, with a slightly receding nose to chin line.

Class 418, Burmese AOC Tortoiseshell Neuter (2)

BOB: Brownings’ Gr. Ch. & Pr. Romid Lucie (11.4.’01)

Lilac Tortoiseshell. Petite and well proportioned, and a balanced tail. Long coat. Broad head with very short wedge, neat ears, and pale, greenish-yellow eyes, set obliquely with a fuller lower line. In profile, a distinct nose break, short, straight, nose, and a level chin.
