THE NATIONALCAT CLUB SHOW 2009 JUDGE: Carol Ward

Many thanks to Carol, Ron and the Show Team for all their hard work in presenting such a very enjoyable Show. Thank you also for inviting me and for the hospitality you extended to me. I enjoyed my day immensely and it was made additionally pleasant by having such an experienced steward in Jane Haggar. She not only handles the cats expertly, but keeps me in line and provides me with good humoured company all day. Thank you Jane.

Oriental Bicolour Adult Intermediate Male

IC N/A Boddy’s PUZZLE DOMINO (48) Black M. 1 yr 4 months

A good sized and muscular cat shown in excellent condition and with an outgoing temperament. Long in the body with long legs and strong feet and with a good length tail with some stud tail evident at the base. Longish wedge, narrowing a little in the muzzle making his head look a touch unbalanced. Chin could be stronger but bite essentially level. His ears could be a fraction larger and wider at the base and a little lower set for perfect balance. Eyes of pleasing set and shape, pale olive green. He has a good amount of white on his face, forehead and ears and on his neck and chest, extending down his underside, unbroken down his tummy and onto his haunches. He conforms in that the total amount of white is considerably more than one third. However, there is considerable bleeding of the white hairs well into the black fur on his sides and back by as much in some areas as three inches into the black.

Oriental Bicolour Adult Intermediate Female

IC & BOB to Bailey’s METEXA LA PROMESA (48n) Caramel F. 9months 3 weeks.

A dainty young lady of pleasing Oriental type. Medium wedge well balanced with ears of good size and placement following the lines of the wedge. Straight profile, form chin and level bite. Good deep green eyes of good shape and set. White on her face, muzzle and forehead, under her chin, down her chest and unbroken down her tummy and on her shoulders, back and haunches to more than conform to the requirement. She has white on all four legs. Her coat of good length and texture. Some very minimal bleeding of white hairs evident on her back. Good caramel colour on her back.

Oriental Red Kitten

1st BOB NA. Partridge’s NUTROSTAR REDKNIGHT M. 6 months 6 days.

A well grown kitten of good substance and showing good strength for his age, with long legs and strong feet. Tail of good length. Medium wedge, slightly uneven profile, good firm chin and level bite. Ears of good size and placement, eyes of pale green and of good shape and set. Lovely rich red coat with a good solid spine line and some tabby marking on his sides. The coat short and fine textured. Unfortunately we found a rather pronounced tail defect near the tip of the tail.

Oriental Tortoiseshell Kitten

1st & BOB Bailey’s CHAPELROSE FIZZBOMB (37y) Fawn. 5 months 3 days.

A dainty and pretty kitten who was desperate to get out of her pen to be cuddled. Well grown and of overall lovely Oriental type with dainty limbs and a good length tail. Well balanced wedge with large and well placed ears open at the base, straight profile, chin could be marginally deeper, but bite level. Good deep green eyes of pleasing set and shape. Dark fawn coat with lovely warm apricot colours mingled through the coat, which was short, sound and fine textured. Her colour may be caramel based fawn, but in the hall lighting I gave her the benefit of the doubt that she is in fact a dark fawn as opposed to a caramel.

2nd Partridge’s NUTROSTAR SWEETCARALINE (37h) Chocolate. 6 months 6 days.

She was very frightened and therefore minimally handled. A well grown kitten of overall good type. Medium wedge with slight muzzle pinch at present, firm chin and level bite. Rather round eyes (which could have been exacerbated by her fear), of pale green, medium sized ears of good placement. Well mingled chocolate coat with warm reds mingled through the coat, which was sound, short and fine textured.

Oriental Black Neuter Male

1st PC & BOB to Titterall’s BABADAG ASIFBYMAGIC MN.

A good sized long bodies boy of considerable elegance and presence. Long legs, strong feet and a tail which could have done with an extra inch or two. Medium wedge, good sized and lovely flaring ears open at the base and placed well for good balance and with a good wide top of head. Bright green eyes of good set and shape, good profile, chin and bite. Dense black shining coat, sound to the roots and of short, fine texture. A very laid back and pleasing exhibit.

2nd Warmbath’s PR. MORALYN MEPHISTO MN. 6 years 2 months.

A large and rather overweight chap, not quite in show condition on the day with evidence of sunbathing in the rustiness on his paws and some mottling on his ears. His coat too was rusty at the roots in places and showed signs of some dandruff. Strong head, good profile and chin with level gums. Large and well placed ears, excellent green eyes of good set and shape. His tail also a little short to balance his huge body.

Oriental Black Neuter Female

1st PC N/A IGR PR SPELLCASTER BLACK BESS FN 5 years 9 months.

A rather small girl of good weight and muscle tone. Shortish wedge with a rather uneven profile and ears which could be larger and needing a little more width between them. Rather large and open eyes of pale green and her coat a little long and unsound at the roots.

Oriental Bicolour Neuter Intermediate

1st IC & BOB to Midson’s MIYOKO SUPER TROOPER (48 43bs) MN.

Chocolate Silver Shaded. How anyone could tell that this cat was either silver or shaded was a mystery to me. Perhaps his parents are homozygous for silver and shaded? However, he is a stylish and lovely cat so I gave her the award. He is almost completely white with just two little chocolate tabby spots on his face and on his nose and his tail is relatively well ringed to about two thirds of the tail from the tip and the final third agouti invaded with some paler hairs evident and a pale tip. Some vestigial colour on one haunch. Medium wedge, lovely large well placed ears, good profile, chin and bite and lovely green eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent overall type with a long body long elegant legs and feet and a good length tail.

2nd Taylor’s JADEVYN BRYCHAN TROEDMAWR (48 40bt) Chocolate Pointed Tabby. MN. 1 year 6 months.

Another strong and well built boy with strong limbs and feet and a good length tail, which has tail rings to about two-thirds of the tail length. Medium wedge, good profile, deep chin and level bite. Good bright blue eyes of good set and shape, ears which could be a fraction larger for good balance, but of correct placement. He has white on his face, nose and forehead, under his chin, down his neck and chest and unbroken down his tummy so that there is more than two thirds overall. His back showing warm chocolate tabby markings that were sound. His coat overall short and fine textured.

AC Oriental Junior Adult

1st Bailey’s WICCANWAYS WOT SPOTZ (38b) Chocolate OST Female. 1 year 6 days.

A good sized lady in a real strop! Good overall Oriental type and shown in good condition. Good long tail with well defined rings. Short wedge, which lacked a little muzzle strength, Good sized ears, well placed, straight profile, firm chin and level bite. Pale green eyes of good set and shape. Her coat of warm chocolate, showing well separated spots, which are already showing considerable agouti invasion. However, the spots are sound to the roots and the spine line well broken and she has good face markings and a well broken spine line and face markings. The coat is short and fine textured with a warm beige ground colour.

2nd McDermand’s LORIMNAILIE REGAL (37e) Black Tortie. 10 months 2 weeks.

A small girl but with good muscle tone and a good length tail. And dainty limbs. Shortish wedge, straight profile, good chin and level bite. Good sized ears of acceptable placement. Pale greenish coloured eyes which she holds a little full and are somewhat straight set. Good sound and well mingled coat with warm reds through the coat, which was short and fine textured.

AC Oriental Kitten

1st Wilson’s STARAPPEAL FIGARO (62 43es) M. Longhair Black Silver Shaded. 5 months 2 days.

A very well grown and strong kitten for his age with strong limbs and large paws. Good balanced wedge, with good sized and well placed ears, straight profile, firm chin and good bite. Lovely deep green eyes of excellent set and shape. Dark blue coat developing length well for his age and of fine silky texture. Some tarnishing on his paws and his face and as yet insufficient undercoat to show the correct depth of silver. Some heavy pattern evident, the colour of which penetrates nearly to the roots. His tail is long and well furnished. A very pleasing temperament and a striking kitten of excellent type.

2nd Patridge’s NUTROSTAR REDKNIGHT. (37d) M.

AC Neuter Not Bred by Exhibitor

This was a very challenging class as several of the cats entered merited a first place. In the end it was really down to personal preference.

1st Titterall’s BABADAG ASIFBYMAGIC (37) MN.
2nd Perkins’ PR. APRIKAT SUMMERHEAT (62 15d) LONGHAIR Red. 2 years 3 weeks.

A lovely stylish boy of considerable presence. A strong and well grown cat of lovely type with strong limbs and feet and a good length tail, which could do with a little more furnishing. Stunning bright red coat of good length and lovely fine texture and virtually free of tabby markings, sound to the roots. Lovely balanced wedge, good straight profile, lovely large and flaring, well placed ears, excellent deep green eyes of lovely set and shape.

3rd Hart’s CH & GR PR. APRIKAT SWEETCHARITY (62 21)FN. 5 years 5 months.

Black Tortie Longhair.

AC Oriental Neuter

1st Lowell’s GR. PR. SUSPIRIA WILLIAM BECKFORD (37k) MN. Cinnamon. 2 years 7 months

A large and rather overweight boy whose extra girth rather spoils his Oriental elegance. Strong limbs and feet and a very short tail. Excellent masculine head well balanced, virtually straight profile, deep chin and level bite. Ears of good size and good placement, pale green eyes of pleasing set and shape. Warm cinnamon coat, sound and fine textured and just a fraction long.

2nd Warmbath’s pr. MORALYN MEPHISTO (37) Black MN.
