North West Cat club Show

27th September 2008

Show Report from Shar Crichton

Another excellent well run show with some lovely cats and delightful kittens to handle. My appreciation to Lesley, Jenny and the club committee for the invitation and hospitality. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Ross Davis who was a most excellent steward who handled the cats with skill and kindness and who showed a real interest in the different breeds we handled on the day. I hope he enjoyed being with the long and semi-longhairs for a change and that we can work together at another show date in future.

Imperial Class – AC Persian GR CH Adult Female

IMP Morris’s GR CH MONTELL TO HEATHROSE

A blue smoke girl with excellent type who was almost four years old. She was of medium build and was a good weight and size for a female as I thought she was a male at first when handled! Body shape was very cobby and supported by short thick legs and rounded paws with blue paw pads. She had excellent head shape being broad and rounded with neat well set ears that had short silvery ear furnishings. The eyes were large and round with good orange eye colour and blue eye rims. A very broad nose which was very short with a strong stop and good blue nose leather. The cheeks were full and she had a broad muzzle with a firm balanced chin and a good scissor bite. Her mask was fully formed and was of a sound pale to medium blue shade. The coat was lovely being fairly long and full with better contrasting light undercoat on the body rump than elsewhere and was obviously just coming in at this time of year. The body was of a medium shade of blue and was soft and silky in texture and was very sound. The frill was long, full and silvery and she had good fluffy trousers. The tail was short and bushy and balanced the body length. Show preparation was excellent and she had a very pleasant gentle nature.

AC Persian Non-Self Champion Adult Male

GR CH Wall’s CH SHEERBLISS ENRICO

Heavy well built boy with good boning and solid well muscled body of cobby shape set low on short thick legs. Broad top of head which was well rounded with fairly neat ears sited far apart on the skull. Very large round eyes with bold expression and lovely copper eye colour. Short nose with a good stop and a small nose leather and nostrils. The cheeks were full, the bite was level and he had strong white chin which balanced the upper part of the face. The coat was dense and plush and stood out well from the body and was a steel shade of blue with a white bib, underside, a half white collar and white flanks. The face had a small inverted chevron on the lower muzzle area which was white and broad while the upper face and top of head were blue. All four paws were white and he had blue patches on the upper leg regions. The tail was short and fat and was totally blue. Attractive boy with good type and who today was not in as sparkling condition as I have seen him in the past. A handsome cat with good show manners and who loved the attention when handled.

Res Danks’s CH TAMOSAH FERNANDO

A black pewter boy who was in his prime and who had good type and was balanced in head and body. He had good bone conformity with a firm solid build, set on short squat strong legs. Wide top of head with smooth rounded top and bearing ears that were fairly neat with silvery white ear feathers which had excellent placement and could have been smaller for perfection, appearing just a little pricked and open. He had well developed cheeks and a broad rounded muzzle. The nose was short and had a strong stop, full brick red nose leather with a dark outline. Very noticeable large bold eyes of good copper colour, fully round, outlined with black and having a lovely expression. The chin was white, strong and balanced and he had a good level bite. The coat was dense and fairly long although he was not in full coat but was of a soft silky texture with a silver frill and silvery flanks. His body was silvery white and evenly shaded with a black pewter mantle while the bib and underside were pure white. The underside of his paws were solid and black. The forelimbs had ghost tabby spots which may hopefully become less obvious when he is in full coat. His tail was short, well proportioned and bushy with a silvery white underside. A very well behaved gentleman who was expertly prepared and shown in beautiful sparkling condition.

AC Persian Non-Self Champion Adult Female

GR CH Morris’s CH ROCAWEN GINGER SPICE

A very cobby tortie smoke girl, just over a year old excelling in bone and body conformation with good breadth across the rump and set on short stocky legs with large round tufted paws. She has excellent type with a coat to match. It was very full and long, being soft and dense with fluffy trousers, a long silvery frill and a short bushy tail of red and black. The coat was well patched and broken with sound black colour and shades of red overlying an undercoat which was not ash white and not at its best at this time of year. She had a pretty pansy face with the mask well broken into patches. Smooth broad top of head that was well balanced with a smooth rounded forehead, widely spaced well set feathered ears that were very neat and with rounded tips. Bright and alert eyes of large size and round shape with excellent copper colour with sweet expression. Broad flat face with a very short snub nose that was broad and with good nostrils. A well formed muscular chin, full apple cheeks and a broad muzzle with a good scissor bite. A well presented girl who handled easily. I was informed later that she was made up to Grand on the day. Congratulations.

Res Bray’s CH LORINA TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

A very pretty chinchilla girl who was just over two years of age and who was very nervous and upset when handled. Broad head that was well rounded and smooth with plenty of width between the ears which were small and sited far apart. Full cheeks with good width and a short snub nose with a brick red nose leather edged with dark brown. Huge round eyes that had good blue green eye colour, outlined with black and with very dilated pupils. The chin was deep and balanced and she had a not quite level bite. She was a cobby girl, balanced and dainty in build being a little small with short thick legs and paws with black pads. The coat was full and very long with a good length of frill, fluffy trousers and a short bushy tail. The undercoat was pure white with very light black tipping over the head, back, flanks and tail while her chin, bib, chest and underside were pure white.

Bi-Coloured Kitten

Two delightful kittens in this class with not much to separate them.

1 and BOB Gledhill’s CLOVERHILL SAILOR BOY

A three month old blue and white boy with very excellent persian type. A well grown baby with a very pretty look and who was well grown with good bone conformity and well balanced cobby shape set low on short diddy legs. Very pleasing head type which was broad for a baby, smooth and rounded and with tiny well set ears fitting neatly into the skull contours. The eyes of large size and round shape with promising muddy eye colour and were bright and alert. He had a short up-turned nose with a clear stop and a small pink nose leather. The muzzle had plenty of width and he had full apple cheeks. The chin was well formed in a baby and he was teething heavily and had a very slightly overshot bite which no doubt will be perfect as his jaw line develops. The coat was of a good length and was soft with a pale shade of blue. He had a blue head with blue ears and a white face. There was a full white collar, bib and tummy and he had blue patches in the mid back and lower back regions. The tail was short, fluffy and was completely blue and he had four white feet. A very cute chap who was so playful and dying for some mischief when handled and who was very well prepared. My nomination for best in show kitten.

2 Thornburn’s ALINDAS BAM BAM

Another very pretty three month old boy who was a black and white bicolour and who very worthy of a first placing as well. He had a shapely cobby body with good boning, set low on sturdy legs. Head shape was square with very neat ears that were sited far apart and which had very long ear feathers. The top of head was black and covered the area at the base of his ears. The eyes were rounded in shape and bold with good orange eye colour developing and sweet expression. He had a short nose with a small nose leather and a good nose break. The muzzle was broad, the cheeks were filling out well and he had a firm balanced chin with a good scissor bite. The face, bib and underside were white, trousers were fluffy and he had a full black tail that was short and bushy but had a few stray white hairs along its length which detracted from his appearance a little. All four feet were white and the hind legs had two black spots. The coat was a good length and was soft in texture and was otherwise very well prepared. A very pleasing kitten who is very promising and was a sweet little soul.

Black Neuter

1 PC and BOB Signey’s YANKIDOODLE’S BLACKPEARL

A stylish black girl with a very sturdy, strong boned body that had a cobby shape supported by short thick legs. She has good persian type having a sound black coat that was sleek, shiny and free of white hairs with well prepared fluffy trousers and a short tail that was a little lacking in furnishings on the day and could have been fluffier. Head shape was broad and square, well balanced with a rounded forehead and with good distance between the ears which were low placed and small in size. She had stunning bold eyes, saucer shaped with fabulous copper colour that does not come much deeper and with the loveliest of expressions. A very broad short nose had a strong nose break, full size nostrils and a fully formed black nose leather. Muzzle was broad and firm. Well developed cheeks with a strong muscular chin and a wide scissor bite. A well groomed girl with a placid nature who handled easily on the day.

Blue Neuter

1 PC and BOB Johnson’s PR SSAFASEC THUNDER

A blue boy who was just over a year old with well balanced head and body. Sturdy strong boned body with thick short legs and large rounded well feathered paws. Broad chest and well rounded rump. Good head type with a square outline, rounded and smooth with plenty of width between the ears which were neat and had long ear feathers. Broad nose that was also very short and had a strong stop with a fully formed blue nose leather and good size nasal openings. Strong muzzle with full rounded cheeks and strong balanced chin with a good level bite. The eyes were large and had a round shape with somewhat pale orange eye colour not helped by the lighting in the hall and which I would have liked to be a deeper shade. The coat was long with a soft silky texture and was of a mid shade of blue. He had a good frill and very fluffy trousers and a short well furnished tail. His coat was well prepared and was even with only just a few darker guard hairs visible along his back and slight tarnishing on his bib due to his licking no doubt. A laid back boy who handled very well.

Red Self Neuter

BOB Carr’s GR PR BESSJET RAY OF SUNSHINE

A huge red self boy with substantial build who was over four years of age. He was heavy boned and had a massive cobby shape on short tree trunk legs with huge round tufted paws. The chest was broad and he had a well rounded rump. Good breadth of skull that was well rounded and with a smooth forehead and having fairly small widely spaced ears that were well furnished. He had a very short broad nose with a strong deep nose break and a pink nose leather with full nostrils. Fairly large eyes were well rounded and had excellent deep copper eye colour. He had full cheek width and a broad muzzle with a strong balanced chin. The bite was level and broad with slightly splayed upper canines. The coat was very long and flowing and was a very lovely rich shade of red with a soft texture and fairly free of tabby markings with just a hint of tabby barring on the tail. He had a long frill framing his face and shoulders and a very full short tail. A very relaxed mature exhibit who was a real gentleman when handled and who was well presented.

Tortie or Chocolate Tortie and White Neuter

1 PC and BOB Edward’s CH DELAVALE DREAMMAKER

A five year old tortie and white girl who was of good size and weight. She was very nervous when handled and this made it more difficult to assess her fully. Wide top of head that was rounded and had neat ears set low on the skull with long white ear feathers. She had a broad nose with a shallow nose break and a full pink nose leather. The eyes were round in shape and large and had eye colour that was not very deep possibly due to the fact that she is an older queen. The muzzle had good width and was fully white. She had fat cheeks and she would not under any circumstances let us see her bite. I would have liked to see her with a stronger chin for better facial balance as the lower facial area was just a touch shallow. The markings on her head and face were good as she had black over the top of her head and the face was half red and half black. Patching on the body was very good and she had a white bib and underside. All four feet were white and she had a short fully furnished tail of red and black. A girl with a pleasing open expression.

Bi-Coloured Neuter

1 PC and BOB White’s IGR CH & GR PR MARDIGRAS THE CANDY MANCAN

A cream and white boy of three and a half years of age who I have not seen for some time and find that he has really blossomed and matured into a fine cat with excellent physique. He was massive, heavy boned with a very cobby shape that could not be more persian, set on short thick legs with huge round feathered paws. He had a very broad chest, thick neck and a well rounded fat rump with a loose purse on his underside to show he was very well fed! Lovely balance to head and face with a very broad head that was smooth and well rounded. Widely spaced ears were well furnished and fitted neatly on top. He had a very broad nose which was short and had a good nose break and full pink nose leather with well formed nostrils. Saucer shaped stunning bold eyes with good copper colour had a bright and alert expression. The muzzle was broad, the cheeks were fat and plump and he had a good scissor bite. He had cream on the top of his head while the rest of the face was white with a strong cream chin. The body had a cream patch on his back with a white bib and underside and ending with a short fully furnished cream tail shaped like a christmas tree. The cream areas were of a pale shade and the white areas were sparkling throughout. The coat was fabulous, being long and full with a massive frill and was soft and very silky in texture and was beautifully presented down to the last hair. My nomination for best in show neuter and who then went on to get best in show longhair. Congratulations.

2 Edward’s PR DELAVALE BO JANGLES

A six year old red and white bicolour boy who was well grown and solid with good physique. Cobby body shape with thick legs and tufted feet. Broad top of head with pleasing facial expression and who was unlucky to be in the same class as the winner. Good ear set with ears that were small and white while the top of head had rich red patches. The well rounded forehead and lower face had an inverted white chevron. The eyes were of large size and had good orange eye colour. Full cheeks and a broad muzzle with a short snub nose that had a deep nose break and had a patch of red on the left. The chin was very strong and was red in colour and he had a scissor bite with the upper incisors slightly dished. His bib and underside were white but the back of the body and flanks were a rich shade of red. The tail was very bushy and fully red with a slightly lighter tip. A well behaved gentle cat when handled with a pleasant nature.

Red, Cream or Tortie point Birman Kitten Male

1 Davies’s CARRISMOON JACKFLASH

A five month old red point kitten who was well grown, solid with good birman type and going through an adolescent stage of development. Skull was broad and rounded with a medium length nose that had the correct dip at the nasal bridge and had a full pink nose leather. The cheeks were filling out and not yet fully round. Chin was firming up and was slightly tapering. The ears were spaced well apart and were of medium size. His eyes were of a mid blue shade that could have been deeper and were almost round in shape with a bright and alert expression. The body was firm and of a good size with well muscled legs of medium length and strong short paws. He had a bushy red tail that was balanced and in proportion to the body length. The coat was very clear and was pale cream over the body and was of a soft and silky texture with a ruff starting to form. The mask was not fully formed as yet but matched the ears and tail but the colour of the points on the legs was paler and not yet fully developed and harder to see. The forelegs had good white gloves that were clean and symmetrical. The socks were not clearly outlined and were hard to see against the very pale colour of the legs. The gauntlets were hard to distinguish and considered to be not quite level. A well presented boy with a lovely gentle temperament.

Red, Cream or Tortie Point Birman Kitten Female

1 and BOB Brown’s DALTEEMA SARMOYAH TOPAZ

A three month old promising creampoint birman kitten with good type. Very sweet baby with a rounded skull that had good width. Her nose was of medium length and had a slight dip in profile with a pink nose leather. She had good cheek width for a baby which will certainly continue to develop further. Her chin was firm and was slightly tapering and balancing the upper part of her face. The ears were well sited on top of the head being spaced far apart and were of medium size and in proportion. She had almost round eye shape which had a lovely bright expression and deep blue eye colour which was one of the reasons why she was awarded best of breed as it was far better than the other two kittens competing. The body was well grown for her age and had a firm shape supported by legs of medium length with short paws. The tail was well feathered and was of medium length and in proportion to the body’s length. She had a full coat that was silky soft and off white in colour and perfectly clear while the points were cream and were beginning to develop well. The mask was not yet full but matched the cream tail but the colour of the limbs was not yet fully developed and made it very hard to distinguish the limit of the gloves and socks. The paws were sparkling white with the gloves set just a little low for perfection. The upper edge of the socks were hard to see but the gauntlets appeared to be level and symmetrical and were pristine white. A delightful little girl with a super gentle nature and who was well presented.

2 Brown’s DALTEEMA CRRAILISO AMBER

Another sweet creampoint baby who was litter sister to the class winner and who was very similar with just a whisker to separate them and who is also very promising. Her head had good width but was marginally less broad than her sister’s but nevertheless well rounded. Her nose was of medium length with a slight dip at the nasal bridge with a full pink nose leather and showing a slight bump at the tip. Her cheeks were filling out well, not quite so full as her sister’s and she had a firm chin which was balanced and not receding. The ears were well placed on top and were of medium size. The eyes had good blue eye colour and were almost round in shape and had a sweet alert expression. The body was of a good size, firm and solid with strong legs of medium length and with short paws. A bushy tail of cream balanced the body length and was well furnished. The coat was very soft and silky, of good length and was beautifully clear being off white in colour. The ruff had not yet developed and the points had still to become more clearly defined. The cream mask was developing and visible and matched the well feathered medium length tail. The foot markings were generally fairly good with well matching white gloves that were slightly scalloped. The socks were harder to distinguish and hardly visible but the gauntlets were long and well matched. A delightful kitten with a sweet nature and who was well shown.

AC Persian Non-Breeder’s Self Adult

1 Stephenson’s CH WESTHOLME MISSING LINK

A well built black exotic boy with excellent type who was of a large size, heavy weight with a cobby shape on short thick well muscled legs. The chest was broad and deep with a rounded rump. He had an excellent head balance having a very broad head that was round and massive with neat well round tipped ears that were placed far apart. His eyes were stunning, being large, fully round and widely spaced, with excellent deep copper colour and bold expression. The nose was very broad and short with a strong nose break and full black nose leather. Full rounded cheeks with a broad fat muzzle and a strong chin with a good level bite. The coat was a shiny glossy black and was dense and plush with a good texture that stood out well from the body even though he was moulting slightly. The tail was short and thick and in proportion to the body length. A most relaxed and gentle cat who was my nomination for best in show adult.

2 Stewart’s CH LAZANE ON CLOUD NINE

A one year old orange-eyed white male that I have judged several times before and there is little to add to my previous descriptions. He has lovely type, a very cobby persian body shape and a wonderful sweet nature as well. He excels in head type having a broad top with tiny well set ears that were well feathered. The eyes are most expressive and have excellent copper eye colour and a most pleasing gentle expression. A short snub nose has a pink nose leather. The chin was firm and he has a good scissor bite. The coat is very long, soft and silky with a short bushy tail and all were sparkling white and beautifully prepared as always to be expected from this exhibitor and his show temperament was excellent.

3 Arnold’s CH TALSHIOR MR BOJANGLES

AC Persian Non-Breeders Non-Self Adult

1 Morris’s GR CH MONTELL TO HEATHROSE

2 Lees’s SHEERBLISS OHSO THEO

A mackerel cream tabby and white boy who is not yet a year and a half old. He has strong head type with good breadth of skull which was round and smooth and with a rounded forehead showing a tabby ‘M’. His ears are well placed on top and were neat and round tipped. The cheeks were fat and chubby with a broad muzzle, strong chin and a scissor bite. The nose was short and had a strong stop. The eyes were large and fully round in shape with lovely bold expression and fabulous copper colour showing light spectacles. The face was almost totally cream with a small white moustache. The body was of a good weight and was solid and firm with a broad chest, strong shoulders and strong stocky legs. The neck was short and thick and had an incomplete white collar. The tail was short and thick, fully cream and had clear tabby rings. The tabby markings of the coat were a rich cream against a pale toned cream agouti ground colour. All four paws were white as well as the chest and underside and all the white areas were sparkling. The coat was soft and dense with a plush texture and stood out well from the body and was of medium length. A well mannered boy who was pleased to be handled.

3 Cook’s NYKLANI LORENZO MEDICIE

AC Persian Breeder’s Self Kitten

1 Stewart’s BARLEYFIELDS RIVER DANCE

Almost five months old, this orange-eyed white exotic boy had good type and was well grown and of a good size for his age and had a pleasing alert expression. His head had good width and had a slight head bump at present. The ears were small and round tipped and sat well spaced apart on the skull. His eyes were very large, bold and fully round with excellent muddy eye colour that was very promising. The cheeks were a clean white, fat and chubby and he had a short snub nose with a pink nose leather, firm balanced chin and a level bite. The body shape was cobby and was solid with short thick legs. The coat was pure white, very clean and sparkling and was fairly dense and of medium length, soft in texture and felt fairly plush to touch. The tail was short and thick and in proportion to the body length. A friendly kitten with a very appealing expression.

2 Manning’s CHAKEL LOIS LANE

A very pretty blue kitten who had lovely type and was very well balanced having a very cobby persian shape with short stocky legs. He was well grown and of a good weight for his age of six months. Head shape was broad with neat well feathered ears that were placed far apart on his head. His eyes were very beautiful being large and round with excellent and promising muddy eye colour. The cheeks were full and round and he had a broad muzzle and a strong chin. I was concerned, however, about his bite which appeared to be slightly offcentre and a little undershot and for this reason he was placed down on the day. I do hope that as he completes the process of teething that the dentition will improve as he is a lovely kitten with a very beautiful full coat of pale blue that was long, soft with fluffy trousers and a short well plumed tail and who was expertly prepared for the show bench and will be a stunning adult later.

AC Persian Adult

1 Morris’s CH ROCAWEN GINGER SPICE

2 Charlan’s ALGERNON BROWN SUGAR

An eleven month old tortie adult who had lovely type and very cute pansy expression. She was very small in size with a short cobby body set low on short legs. Head shape was square and rounded with a slight head bump to her forehead. Tiny well set ears were sited far apart on the skull and had long ear feathers. Eyes were of large size and fully round with deep copper colour and a lovely bold expression. The cheeks were round and chubby and she had a very short snub nose that was nice and broad with a strong stop and large nostrils. The chin was strong and balanced the top half of her face and she had a scissor bite. The tortie markings were bright and clear on her face with black over the top of head and red on her forehead and muzzle. All four paws were broken and the left fore leg had a very good red patch. Her back was brightly coloured but more intermingled rather than patched. The tail was short and full. The coat was long, soft and was well prepared. A little poppet when handled.

AC Persian Kitten

1 Mackereth’s PIPPAKITZ SCARLET RIBBONS

A delightful red tabby exotic kitten aged four months who I have met before at a recent show and she is an excellent example of a red classic tabby having the clearest of tabby markings. Pleasing well rounded head with good breadth between the ears which were tiny, round tipped and well placed. She had fat cheeks with a rounded forehead and large eyes that were fully round and had excellent muddy eye colour that are sure to be a brilliant copper later. They were bold with a cute alert expression. A sweet little nose with a good nose break and a pink nose leather. The chin was firm and she had a good level bite. Her tabby markings were outstanding being a rich shade of red over a paler red ground colour and were symmetrical on both sides of her body. She had a clear butterfly over the shoulders and three strong spine lines down her back with clear oysters on the flanks. Head markings were also very clear with an ‘M’ on her forehead, headlines and pencilling on her cheeks. The tail was short and thick and had good tabby rings. The body was solid, firm and cobby in shape with short stocky limbs showing clear bracelets. The coat was of a soft texture and of medium length and was still a baby coat needing to develop the density and plushness of an adult but nevertheless was in good condition. A very cute kitten with oodles of personality and who was a delight to handle.

2 Thornburn’s ALINDAS TUPPENCE HA’PENNY

A very pretty tortie and white kitten of six months who also would deservedly win a first place award. She had a fabulous well presented coat that was long, full and very soft with lovely fluffy trousers and a beautiful fully furnished short tail. Head shape was square with a rounded forehead, bearing small well set ears with lovely long white ear feathers. Eyes were large and fully round in shape with good orange colour present. A short nose with a strong stop and two colour nose leather. Facial colours were good with a forehead which was split and was half white. Her face was half black with a broad red muzzle. The cheeks were full and she had a strong balanced chin with a good level bite. Body shape was very cobby and she was a good weight and size for her age. The legs were thick and short, all white with three of them having good size spots of colour. Body markings were pleasing and bright on a mainly white body. Show temperament was excellent and she was in good general condition.

3 Short’s TILSIE ONLYTHELONELY

AC Persian Neuter

1 White’s IGR CH & GR PR MARDIGRAS THE CANDY MANCAN

2 Signey’s GR PR YANKIDOODLE’S CALYPSO

Almost seven years of age, this chinchilla girl was in excellent condition. She had a very broad top of head with neat well set ears that had medium length silvery white ear furnishings. The eyes were lovely and were huge and round with excellent deep blue green colour which was better than that seen in many of this breed and outlined with black. A broad short nose had a shallow nose break and a full deep pink nose leather, rather than brick red, outlined with a faint dark edge. The cheeks were full and she had a firm chin and a scissor bite. The body was of a large size for a female and of a good weight with a fat chubby tummy and overall correct cobby persian shape. The legs were set low and were strong and thick with large rounded paws with black paw pads. The coat was long and thick with a silky texture and having a long frill and a pure white undercoat with a white chin, bib and underside. The top of head and body had very light black tipping that was fairly even throughout and ending with a short tail that was lacking a little in furnishings on the day.

AV SLH Maiden Kitten

1 Brown’s DALTEEMA SARMOYAH TOPAZ

2 Bryant’s MIGATOBONITO SNOW ANGEL

A blue cream classic tabby maine coon of five months who was very well grown and a good weight for her age. The head was slightly shorter than desired at present and the face needs to be a little longer for better facial balance which hopefully may come with maturity. She had an excellent square muzzle with cheeks that were filling out and a good level bite. The nose was of uniform width with a shallow concave dip at the nasal bridge and could have been longer. The ears were large, tall and pointed and had very good ear tufts that were wide at the base with lighter ear feathering inside the ear flaps. Her eyes were large and round with yellowish green eye colour and with a slightly oblique setting. The body was well grown being large for her age, well muscled with good chest width and body length and supported on strong legs with large round paws. The tail was very long reaching the shoulders with ease and tapered towards the tip. The coat was fairly long for the summer months and was well intermingled over the head and body with blue and cream. A kitten who was a gentle girl with a placid nature and who was well shown.
