ORIENTAL SHADED, SMOKE & TABBY SOCIETYFIRST EXEMPTION SHOW MAY 2009JUDGE: Carol WardI was extremely honoured to have been asked to judge at the first Show for this Society. I had some very lovely cats (many of my ‘old’ favourites’) to which I would have given championship awards had this been possible. I had a very pleasant day and thank everyone concerned with the Show organisation for their hospitality. I had a special thank-you from the Society, which I shall treasure. I was ably aided by my splendid steward Jane Haggar, to whom grateful thanks for your competence and lovely company. Even though this was not a championship Show, I have indicated in my report the awards that I would have given in a show of Championship status. AC Titled Cat
GR. CH. to Parkinson’s UK & IGR. CH. JOYJEWEL SMAUG AKIVA (45b) Chocolate Ticked Tabby M. 6years 11 months.
A real old favourite of mine and still looking a picture at this mature age. He still has the most wonderful ticked coat with three bands of ticking visible and of the most lovely warm bright chocolate colour. He still has apple-green eyes of lovely shape and set and his straight profile, good well placed ears form his lovely balanced masculine head. Such a dear, gentle person too. What a pleasure to see this lady again! I think she is one of the most beautiful and correct Oriental cats that I have ever met. She has a very strong head for a female, with lovely balance and correct, excellently large and pen based ear set, stunning clear green eyes of excellent set and shape, strong deep chin (with now a rather untidy mouth) and a good straight profile. In fact – a perfect head. Her coat is also wonderful with lovely clear silver undercoat with a subtle pale caramel overlay and some again subtle apricot colours down her back. A superb Shaded and a very beautiful cat overall. I think she was BIS – very deservedly. Oriental Shaded Male/Female Neuter
1st PC & BoB N/A to Parkinson’s LUNATORA SMAUG CHANCE (43s) Black Silver Shaded MN. 11 months 2 weeks.
A rather adolescent looking young cat shown in good condition, with a long body, elegant limbs and a good length tail. Lovely ticked based shaded coat with clear silver undercoat to just about one-half of the hair shaft, but with very evident and heavy tarnishing on his face, paws haunches and even down his back. Shortish wedge, with a rather pronounced muzzle pinch, good profile, chin and bite. Good sized and well placed ears, pleasing eyes of good set and shape but lacking good green colour. 1st Parkinson’s UK & IGR. CH. SMAUG ROXY (43ps) 2nd Clarke’s FOXYPAWS APRICOTFANCY (37fn) F. Apricot Self. 10 months 3 weeks.
A long bodied young lady still looking very much the adolescent in this company, but she was stylish and elegant and had a lovely sandy apricot coat with minimal tabby markings on her lower sides and a good solid band of colour down her back. The coat very short and fine textured and sound in the solid areas. Medium wedge, good profile, chin and bite. Olive green eyes of very good shape and set. Good length tail. Unfortunately she has a very pronounced protruding sternum. AV Senior Adult

Another cat that I would enjoy looking at with a stunning caramel classic coat bred by Lisa Underhill-Price, who is doing such great work to breed consistently good classic coats. I am not sure if this young boy is quite as good as his Father, but very close! A very striking young cat of stunning colour and a very clear and distinct correct pattern. There was a clear but perhaps not very spreading butterfly and his dorsal ‘tram lines’ started rather far down his back. Clear and full oysters on each side, good tail rings and leg markings to his paws. Lovely facial tracings. The colour of the pattern was non-agouti invaded and penetrated down to the roots. The ground colour a lovely creamy beige, making a superb contrast to the pattern. Medium wedge, straight profile, good chin and level bite. Excellent bright green eyes of pleasing set and shape. Medium sized, well positioned ears. Another gentle person, shown in excellent condition. Carol Ward5th May 2009
