An enjoyable day with some lovely cats. Many thanks to my steward Colin Stone, excellent as always, I look forward to the next time. Also my thanks to Elaine and Lisa for the invitation to judge and to the Somerset Cat Club for their hospitality.

AC BRITISH GRAND PREMIER MALE

1 IGR PC BERGER’S CH & GR SHAMISSYL SILVER SURPRISE 30s MN 31.8.96

Super size and weight with good muscle tone to this nearly thirteen old boy looking splendid still at his advanced age and shown in excellent condition. Broad head has full cheeks to a round face with very good breadth to skull and rounded top of head with good width between neat ears set far apart so following the outer contours of the head, small in size and rounded at tips. Good profile line with rounded brow and short, broad nose just slightly spoilt by slight bump. Level bite but slightly shallow chin. Large and well open eyes set wide apart, pale tone to green colour now. Short neck, medium to slightly longer body but still with a cobby appearance, short level back, low on legs and with a full, broad, deep chest. Proportionate, strong, well boned legs and large, rounded paws. Good medium length tail, thicker at base and rounded at tip. Coat is a trifle long but fairly dense and with a good crisp texture. Black Silver Spotted British of silver ground colour with well defined black spotting just showing slight downward linkage back from shoulders. Merest hint of tarnishing on muzzle. Clear facial markings, broken bracelets and spots on legs with spots all the way down to his toes. Lovely laid back fellow with a super temperament.

RIGR PC KEELING’S IGR PR MOORMIST PERSEUS 40 5 MN 21.3.04

Mature five plus year old large boy, weighty with good muscle tone and balance. Full cheeks to round face, good breadth to skull and rounded top of head with good width between ears set far apart, medium in size, could be smaller for perfection but rounded at tips. In profile rounded brow and short, straight, broad nose. Level bite and fair depth chin. Slightly pale blue eyes, large, round and set fairly wide apart. Short neck to slightly long but chunky body, level back, low on legs and with full, rounded chest. Proportionate, strong, well boned legs and firm, round paws. Proportionate length tail, thicker at base and with a rounded tip. Coat a trifle long but has excellent density and is crisp in texture. Red Colourpointed British of rich red points to mask, ears, legs and tail well defined, front legs just slightly paler. Coat just slightly open nearer base of tail. Creamy white body colour with a little slight shading which tones with the points, faint rings on tail and faint tabby marks on upper limbs.

AC BRITISH GRAND PREMIER FEMALE

1 IGR PC Withheld WILDERSPIN’S CH & GR PR JANAMEL MISS SILVERSOX 40 4 FN 20.5.94

Good overall balance to this fifteen year old lady of good size and weight with good muscle tone and shown in lovely condition. Head has full cheeks to a round face with good breadth to skull and rounded top of head with good width between neat ears set far apart so following the outer contours of the head, small in size and rounded at tips. Rounded brow and short, straight, broad nose. Level bite but shallow chin. Large and well open eyes set wide apart but unfortunately she was showing unnatural eye movement and nystagmus was confirmed by the duty vet. Compact body with a short level back, low on legs and with a well rounded chest. Short, medium boned legs and firm, rounded paws. Slightly long tail, thicker at base but tapers to slightly fine rather than rounded tip. Coat is a trifle long but with good density and excellent crisp texture. Lilac Colourpointed British of magnolia white body colour showing some shading which tones with the points. Deepish lilac points to face, ears legs and tail. Sorry to have to withhold but her fault precludes this award.

AOC MAINE COON ADULT

1 CC & BOB WHITE’S SHEERCLASS BIGGLES 64 31s M 27.4.08

Very smart and well developed thirteen month old boy who was beautifully presented. Head is medium in length and of good breadth being slightly less than the length. Fairly full cheeks and high cheek bones. Well balanced and with shallow concave curve at the nasal bridge being equidistant from the ear line and the tip of the nose and with nose of uniform width. Large ears, feathered, wide at base, set high but well apart and tapering to appear pointed at tufted tips, I would prefer them slightly taller. Full and round shape to eyes, spaced wide apart and with slightly oblique aperture and set, yellow in colour. Good square muzzle with a medium depth chin and level bite. Large, long, weighty body, solid and muscular, square rump and good breadth to chest giving a rectangular appearance. Proportionate length, substantial legs and large round paws with tufts emanating from under paws. Moderately long neck. Long tail, wide at base and tapering towards the tip and with excellent long profuse, flowing fur. Super coat with good undercoat with more substantial glossy top coat of good texture. Fur shorter on head, neck and shoulders and lengthening down back and tail. Still needs to develop a little more length down flanks for absolute perfection. Full breeches, shaggy belly fur and good frontal ruff. Black Smoke and White Maine Coon with white to inverted ‘V’ on face, nose, bib, fine line down tummy, front paws and back boots. Silvery white undercoat well tipped with black with virtually no break through of the ground colour.

2 FLACK’S ACOONAMATATA INDIGO ICE 64 31a M 28.7.08

Just ten months of age so needing a little more time to develop and realise his full potential. Head is medium in length with breadth developing. Fairly full cheeks and high cheek bones. Shallow concave curve at the nasal bridge being equidistant from the ear line and the tip of the nose and with nose of uniform width. Tall, large ears, feathered, wide at base, set high but well apart and tapering to appear pointed at tufted tips. Round shape to yellow eyes, spaced wide apart and with slightly oblique aperture and set but I would prefer them slightly larger. Very good, broad muzzle with a strong chin and level bite. Long body, solid and muscular, square rump and good breadth to chest giving a rectangular appearance. Proportionate length, substantial legs and large round paws with tufts emanating from under paws. Moderately long neck. Good tail, wide at base and tapering towards the tip and with long profuse, flowing fur. Good undercoat with more substantial top coat of good texture but would have benefitted from more preparation. Fur shorter on head, neck and shoulders and of good length down back, flanks and tail. Good breeches, shaggy belly fur and scruffy frontal ruff. Blue and White Maine Coon with white to front paws and back high boots, slight bib, fine line down tummy and spot on chin. Nice even medium blue colour to rest of coat.
