Yorkshire County Cat Club Show Report
25th October 2008
Dr Peter Collin

I would like to thank Lynda and the Yorkshire committee for the kind invitation to judge at this very special show. It was a great honour! Many thanks also to Vivienne Rice for her company and kind expertise with the exhibits and to the exhibitors for trusting me to assess their cats.

Class 398 Chocolate Burmese Kitten

A nice class of 3 girls. I would have been happy to have awarded a First and BOB to any of them.

1st and BOB Williams’s Rugbug Melting Moment (27b) 13.06.08

A kitten of very good type and matched by a confident sweet nature. She had a short wide wedge with very good width at her cheekbones and tapering to a good blunt finish to a short muzzle. The top of her head was gently rounded with quite good width between her ears which were set wide apart with the outer line nicely continuing the shape of the upper part of her face. The ears were on the larger side of medium and were of the correct shape having a broad base and rounded tips. Her eyes were medium to large in size and I would have preferred them slightly larger. They were set wide apart and had a definite difference to the upper and lower lines with a straighter top line angled towards her nose and a bottom line that was well rounded but would have benefitted from slightly more rounding to the outer portion for perfection. They were chartreuse in colour. She had a nice Burmese expression. In profile the depth of her skull was good and her ears showed slight forward tilt. Her brow was nicely rounded and she had a well defined nose break with a shortish nose that was straight and finished in the same vertical plane as her chin that was of medium depth. Her bite was correct. Her body was well grown for her age and she was developing good muscularity. Her chest was rounded and her back straight and she had slender legs that finished with neat oval shaped paws. Her tail was of medium thickness at the base and tapered to a rounded tip and was long enough to balance. Her coat was of medium length and had a super satin like texture and was developing some glossiness. The chocolate colour was warm and pale with minimal facial contrast. Her condition was very good and she was a lovely sweet kitten who purred throughout!

2nd Matthews’s Katchyn Cocomara (27b) 07.02.08

A sweet shy girl with a lovely Burmese expression. She had a moderately short wide wedge with good width at her cheekbones and tapering to a good blunt finish to a muzzle that needed to be slightly shorter. She had good rounding to the top of her head with good width between her ears that were set well apart with the outer aspect nicely continuing the shape of the upper part of her face. The ears were medium in size and the correct shape having a broad base and rounded tips. Her eyes were a particularly good feature being large and lustrous and set well apart with a well rounded lower line and a straighter top line that was angled towards her nose. They were golden yellow in colour. She had a very nice Burmese expression. In profile her depth of skull was reasonably good and her ears showed a slight forward tilt. Her brow was gently rounded and her nose break was well defined. Her nose was a bit long and was not straight having a small bump and a roll off at the nose leather but did finish in the same vertical plane as her chin that was of medium depth. Her bite was correct and she was teething and had sore gums today. Her body was reasonably well grown and she was developing some good muscularity. Her chest was rounded and her back was straight. Her tail was medium thick at the base and tapered to a rounded tip- the last 3 vertebra were easily palpable but there was no deviation present. Her coat was medium in length and was reasonably soft in texture and lay well with a gloss developing. She was an even mid-toned chocolate shade with warmth present. She appeared clear coated. Her condition was good and she was shy and sweet natured.

3rd Johnson’s Lohr Malinalda (27b) 06.06.08

A busy cheerful kitten of good type. She had a very short wide wedge with good width at her cheekbones and tapering to a good blunt finish to a muzzle that was a little square today. The top of her head showed good gentle rounding with reasonable width between her ears that were very mobile but even when relaxed needed to be set slightly lower for preference. They were medium to large in size and were of the correct shape having a broad base and rounded tips. Her eyes were large in size although they would benefit from being set slightly wider apart. They had a well defined difference to the upper and lower lines. The bottom line was very well rounded and the top line was angled correctly towards her nose but was totally straight. They were old gold in colour. She had a reasonably good Burmese expression that would have been improved still more by a better ear set and eye set. In profile the depth of her skull was good and her ears showed slight forward tilt. Her brow was gently rounded and she had a well defined nose break with a shortish nose that wasn’t completely straight having a slight roll off at the tip. Her chin slipped back slightly and was of medium to deep depth. Her bite was correct. Her body was well grown for her age and she was developing good muscularity. Her chest was rounded and her back straight. Her tail was of medium thickness at the base and tapered to a rounded tip and was just long enough to balance. Her coat was of medium/long in length and although it had a soft texture it lay somewhat open. The colour was a pale slightly cool toned chocolate shade that was even. Her condition was good and she was very playful and I suspect would have happily come around with us all day!

Tutorial Class Cream Burmese Adults and Neuters

1st Hardy’s UK GrCh & GrPr Machika Crème Anglaise (27f) 03.10.98

A super older Lady with beautiful eyes. She had a short balanced wedge with good width between her cheekbones and tapering to a blunt finish to her short muzzle that was of nice width. The top of her head showed some gentle rounding with just a little flattening coming now with age. She had very good width between her ears that were of medium size and correct shape having broad bases and rounded tips. The outer line of her ears nicely continued the shape of the outer part of her face. Her eyes were an excellent feature. They were truly large and lustrous and set wide apart and had a lovely shape with a well rounded bottom line and straighter top line angled towards her nose. They were chartreuse in colour. She had an excellent Burmese expression due to her eyes. In profile her depth of head was good and her ears showed slight forward tilt. She had a gently rounded brow and a fairly well defined nose break. Her nose was slightly long and was straight but angled downwards. It ended in the same vertical plane as her chin which was of medium depth. Her bite was level. Her body was of good weight for size still and she has some good muscularity. Her back was straight and she had a rounded chest. Her tail had a medium base and tapered to a rounded tip and was long enough to balance. Her coat was slightly long but was soft in texture and lay well. She was a medium toned cream with the colour paling nicely over her sides and she had some powdering evident on her head. She was clear coated. Her condition was very good and she handled like a professional. A gentle lass!

2nd Matthew’s Katchyn Prairie Sun (27f) 20.11.06

A lovely gentle girl of nice type and displaying the best cream colour present today. She had a short balanced wedge with good width between her cheekbones and tapering to a blunt finish to her short muzzle. The top of her head showed very good rounding with reasonably good width between her ears- that improved when she relaxed. They were set wide apart with the outer line continuing the shape of the upper part of her face. The ears were medium in size and were of the correct shape having a broad base and rounded tips. Her eyes were large in size and lustrous. They were set wide apart and had correct well defined shape having a very nicely rounded lower line and a straighter top line that was angled towards her nose and led to a very nice Burmese expression. They were golden yellow in colour. In profile the depth of her skull was good and her ears showed slight forward tilt. Her brow was gently rounded and she had a well defined nose break with a slightly long nose that was straight and finished in the same vertical plane as her chin that was of medium depth. Her bite was correct. Her body was well grown for her age and she had some good muscularity. Her chest was rounded and her back straight. Her tail was slightly thick at the base and tapered to a broad but rounded tip and was slightly short to balance. Her coat was slightly long in length and had a soft texture and lay well. She was a lovely pale cream which paled further over her sides and powdering was evident on her head and shoulders. She was clear coated except for some faint smudges on her inner back legs. Her condition was very good and she was very sweet natured.

3rd Pallister’s Ch Penwynkatz Crème Delight (27f) 15.10.06

A very friendly natured cream boy with a strong wedge shaped head. He had a good short wide wedge with very nice width at his cheekbones and tapering to a short blunt muzzle which was also of good width. The top of his head was gently rounded with good width between his ears which were set well apart and the outer line did continue the shape of the upper aspect of his face. They were medium in size and had broad bases and rounded tips. His eyes were medium in size and although set well apart they were a little deep set. They had a straighter top line angled towards his nose and although the bottom line was rounded I would have liked slightly more rounding for preference. They were yellow in colour. He did have a nice Burmese expression. In profile his depth of head was good and his ears showed slight forward tilt. His brow was rounded and he had a shallow depth to his break that was though well defined. His nose was slightly long but straight and finished in the same vertical line as his chin that was of medium depth. He had an inflamed acne spot on his chin. His bite was level but his gums were sore today. His body was reasonably well grown and his muscularity was fair and he is presently somewhat thin on his haunches. His chest was rounded and his back was straight. His tail was somewhat finer than desired with a thin base and tapering to a rounded tip. It was long enough to balance his body. His coat was short and soft generally but slightly coarser on his shoulders. He was a warmer toned cream than I would prefer with minimal paling along his sides. He had some powder present on the top of his head. He had 2 broken necklaces and a couple of smudges on his inner back legs. His condition was good and he had a truly excellent temperament for a presumably working boy.

4th Smith’s Pr Machika Beaufils (27f) 18.05.05

A sweet cuddly cream neuter boy with whom it must be a delight to live! He had a medium length wedge with reasonably good width at his cheekbones and a longish muzzle that had a blunt finish and a slight pinch. The top of his head had some gentle rounding and reasonably good width between his ears which were set wide apart and were medium in size and were of the correct shape having a broad base and rounded tips. His eyes were large in size and set well apart and were of the correct shape having a straighter top line angled towards his nose and a rounded bottom line that I would have preferred more rounded for preference. He had a reasonably good Burmese expression. In profile his depth of skull was good and his ears showed slight forward tilt. His brow was gently rounded and his nose break was well defined. His nose was longish and straight and finished in the same vertical line as his chin that was of medium depth. His bite was correct. His body was a little overweight but he had good muscularity and a rounded chest and a straight back. His tail was slightly thick at the base and tapered to a rounded tip and was just long enough to balance. His coat was a little long and slightly open with a soft texture. He was a warm cream colour which was too hot for preference and had minimal paling along his sides. He had some powdering on his head. He was clear coated except for 1 broken necklace. His condition was good and his temperament was exceptionally good.

She had good rounding to the top of her head and reasonably good width between her ears that were medium in size and the correct shape having a broad base and a rounded tip. Her eyes were large and lustrous and set well apart. They had a well defined shape with a well rounded bottom line and a straighter top line that was angled towards her nose. They were golden yellow in colour. She had a super Burmese expression due to her eyes. In profile the depth of her head was good and her ears showed slight forward tilt. Her brow was gently rounded and her nose break was well defined. Her nose was quite short and straight and finished in the same vertical plane as her nose that was of medium depth. Her bite was correct. Her body was reasonably well grown for her age and had good muscularity. Her chest was rounded and her back was straight. A strong chocolate boy of good type. He has a strong short wide wedge with good width at his cheekbones and a slightly long muzzle with a bluntish finish. His ears are medium in size and the correct shape having a broad base and rounded tips. His eyes are medium in size and would benefit from being slightly larger. They are set well apart and have a well rounded bottom line and a straighter top line that is angled towards his nose. They are chartreuse in colour. He has a very good Burmese expression. He was a darker toned but warm chocolate shade with some facial contrast. He was clear coated. His condition was good. He was unfortunately somewhat upset when we got to him but despite this allowed himself to be assessed like a gentleman.

3rd Willmont’s Adversane Angus (27d) 01.08.07

A cuddly boy of super bright red colour. He had a short wide wedge with good width at his cheekbones and tapering to a blunt finish to his short muzzle. He had reasonable rounding to the top of his head with again reasonably good width between his ears that were set well apart- but would benefit from being slightly lower for preference. They were medium in size and had a correct shape having broad bases and rounded tips. His eyes were medium in size and would also benefit from being set slightly wider apart. They are also slightly deep set and he was not inclined to open them fully. When persuaded to they had an adequately rounded bottom line and a straighter top line that was angled towards his nose. He had a fair Burmese expression that was hindered by his eye size and set. In profile the depth of his skull was good and his ears showed a slight forward tilt. His brow was rounded and his nose break was well defined. His nose was slightly long and had a bump. It finished in line with the same vertical plane as his chin that was of medium depth. His bite was correct. His body was of good weight for size and he had good muscularity. His chest was rounded and his back was straight. His tail was of medium thickness at the base and it tapered to a rounded tip with a fused end but no deviation. It was long enough to balance his body. His coat was medium in length and had a nice soft texture with a glossy finish. He was an excellent bright tangerine colour. He had some facial markings, a broken necklace and a few smudges on his inner back legs. His condition was very good and he had a lovely temperament.
