New Reserach Begins with Prof Leslie Lyons at the helm!
A Message from Sarah Johnson
Dear All,
As many people will know, my cattery was devastated in the last few years by Hepatic Amyloidosis. There is no cure and treatment is palliative and inconsistent.
I was fortunate over the Easter Weekend to be able to discuss this problem with Dr Leslie Lyons from UCDavis (USA) genetic testing department who has said that if we can supply 30 DNA samples from affected cats she can start to take a look at the genetic markers.
To this end I have set up a small website with details of how you can participate in this project. This can be found at http://www.hepatica myloidosis. co.uk/ The information about the disease is on a very basic level and is not meant to be scientific data but is based purely on my own personal experience. There is more scientific data available on the web, although not very recent references.
If you have had affected cats in the past who are no longer with you but you have their offspring/siblings/ ancestors then their DNA is also valuable and may be submitted.
Taking part is very simple as you will read and is in absolute confidentiality. Samples are sent via ordinary mail so relatively low cost.
Please, if you can help (and even if you do not wish to be identified) please do.
Sarah Johnson
