Thomas Agrees with the Changes in his Diet

Eleven year old Non Pedigree Ginger cat Thomas and his Owner Dr Emma Travers are both over the moon with the discovery of Applaws Dry Cat Food.

Thomas was diagnosed in February 2009 with Diabetes and was prescribed Insulin injections as a long term treatment for the condition, owner Emma who is a Doctor set to work to research the feline condition desperate to find an alternative to the drug, Emma found that leading experts recommend a diet that consists of high meat, requiring protein foods to replicate a cat's carnivorous nature to keep the blood sugar low.

This was not what Thomas' prescribed foods consisted of and so Emma created a diet especially for Thomas that consisted of a wet food that contained 50% meat which enabled him to be taken off the insulin, however this did leave Thomas very hungry in the few hours leading up to his meals, Emma was thrilled when she located Applaws Dry Cat Food and now has Thomas on a diet consisting of half wet 50% meat cat food and half Applaws Dry Cat Food.

To this day Thomas remains clear of the insulin injections and is no longer hungry for hours before meals.

Emma says that she was overjoyed to find Applaws Dry Cat Food and that it is simply - 'Fantastic' and Thomas definitely agrees!

Hello Naomi,

Many thanks for your input!

This particular story on Thomas is in relation to a specific brand, Applaws.

Cat Planet would welcome any stories you have on any of your cats (or any one elses!) who have been taken off insulin using alternative diets and the details of how you did it and what food(s) you used.

The Cat Planet Team!

Many diabetic cats have been able to come off insulin simply by dietary adjustment - this is nothing to do with specific brands of food, it's just about reducing carbohydrate levels in the diet, which can be done by eliminating grain-based dried food as far as possible.
It's nothing new
