SOUTHERN BRITISH SHORTHAIR SHOW Saturday 6th March 2010 JUDGE: Charis WhiteMany thanks to Sandie Holloway who was stewarding for me through a busy day. Sandie loves the British and Selkirks, and always handles them gently and quietly. I really enjoyed your company, Sandie, and look forward to a few more shows together! Thanks again. BLACK ADULT FEMALECC, BOB - CROWTHER’S TRUBRIT BLACK TULIP 15/04/09Almost eleven months old and she is very promising. She has a neat cobby body of excellent weight, and the bone is developing in short legs with neat round paws. Medium length tail with rounded tip. Well rounded head with good width and rounded top between her ears; eyes are a pleasing shade of orange. They have a well opened expression. Short broad nose, level bite and firm chin. Her coat is short and very dense, the colour sound black. It has a good feel to the texture. Sweet temperament. 2ND - RUSE’ TRUBRIT BLACK MARIAH 28/06/06Almost three years older and yet there is not much difference in size and weight. She has a neat balanced frame and good legs and paws. Tail balances to body. Well rounded head with good cheeks and good width between her ears. Round orange eyes are a fraction deep set, good profile and essentially a level bite – she had one prominent tooth on the bottom row. Firm chin. Her coat is crisp and fairly short, it could be a little denser. The colour is sound and is just a shade light of black – almost sepia – and her face, particularly around the muzzle just looks a little rusted in tone. CREAM ADULT MALE1ST, CC Withheld - FROST’S CRAZIPUSS SWEETWILLIAM 17/08/07Lovely mature boy with a medium framed but well balanced, broad deep body standing on good strong legs with rounded paws. He has a firm weighty feel to him. Broad head with rounded top between slightly pointed ears. He has jowls behind his muzzle rather than full cheeks, making his muzzle look slightly narrowed and square. Good large round orange eyes. Short broad nose, level bite and firm chin. His coat is a little long, crisp and quite dense. On the surface, the colour is an even medium cream but unfortunately it is almost white at the roots, giving him an appearance very close to a Cream Smoke, and this was my reason for withholding the Certificate today. He has some other good qualities and a lovely gentle show temperament. 2ND - HARRISON’S EUROCATS PUFF 19/04/09A very sweet young boy of ten months with plenty of time to develop. He has a medium frame, slightly long, still filling out, with good bone to legs and paws. Thick tail with rounded tip of good length. Fairly round head has yet to broaden and balance with what appear to be rather large ears at the moment. His cheeks are still filling out. Super copper eyes. Broad nose, level bite and firm chin. His coat is very dense and quite short; it is just a fraction soft. He is a proper pleasing pale cream colour, although it still fades at the roots, and he just has some faint ghost spotting across the body at the moment and some rings on his tail. He is very young and at the moment, he looks like feminine, so he may need time to get that masculine look. FEMALE1ST, CC Withheld - EVANS’ EVAVALE MAMMA MIA 29/05/08Medium sized female of good weight and bone with excellent type. Broad round head with lovely full cheeks. Ears are set a bit upright and tall. Round, well opened orange eyes. Short broad nose, level bite – she was puffing out her whisker pads today – and firm chin. Her coat is a bit long but dense and of good texture. The colour is even and fairly sound but it just is not really cream – not in that hall light anyway. These four cats were a perfect example of how the colour Cream can vary and it is probably far more difficult to achieve a good shade of Cream than many other colours. The Standard says ‘pale toned cream, not red or fawn’ and to say that it was either takes us into all sorts of areas of genetics, etc. Having said that, it was not really Cream, rather a very strong deep shade which was more like a warm pale butterscotch colour and her tail was almost red. I think she has lovely type but the colour was my reason for withholding today and I was sorry to have to do so. 2ND - TILLEY’S SKELLUM HONEYBUNN 25/05/09Just an adult and she really needs some time, and maybe some kittens, to fulfil any potential. She has a medium frame of good weight but has yet to fill out and gain the breadth and depth of body, although she has made a start with good bone to legs and paws. Tail balances to body. At the moment, she lacks type in that her head needs to broaden and her cheeks to fill. She has large upright ears and her head tapers to a narrow squared muzzle. Round deep gold eyes. Broad nose, level bite, chin has yet to firm. Her coat is long but it has good density and texture. Again it is a very deep ‘hot’ shade of cream – but the colour is almost sound. The colour is clear apart from some rings on her tail. She was somewhat cranky so maybe her hormones are kicking in. LILAC ADULT, FEMALE1ST, CC Withheld - JOANNIDES’ TIGERBLUES LILY LOVELY 25/09/06Lovely cobby weighty female with a broad deep body. She stands on strong legs with rounded paws. Medium length tail with rounded tip. Broads round head just tapers a fraction at the muzzle. Well spaced ears are just a fraction open at the bases. Large round eyes – the pale gold had a distinct green tinge. We tried looking at her from different angles as the green was fading in some cats when viewed from different angles but it stayed and was my reason for withholding today. Good profile and level bite; firm chin. Super coat - short dense and crisp, the pale lilac is even and sound to the roots. A pity about that eye colour today as she has lots of lovely qualities. BLACK SILVER TABBY ADULTBOB – MOUNSEY’S CH ROBOCAT BASEMENT JAXXmale FEMALECC – HEATON’S CATERSHAN SILVER HARRIETTE 06/07/08This cat is still maturing at present – she has good weight but her body is long and has not yet filled out. Well boned legs and paws. Fairly round head tapers to a slightly square muzzle and she needs to grow into her large ears. Large round eyes, of a good shade of green. Broad nose with black leather, level bite and firm chin. She has a short dense coat, the ground colour medium silver with some brindling. Dense black pattern contrasts well. She has pleasing facial markings and an ‘M’ on her forehead; lines run out from her eyes and across her cheeks. Necklaces are clearly visible. Butterfly is linked to the spine lines and she has clear lines on either side and matched oysters. Legs are barred and she has a spotty tummy. Well ringed tail. She still needs some maturity but she has no real faults and I felt that the award was appropriate today. 2ND - NICHOLDON’S METALLICAT SILVER HERO 06/09/08Neat cobby medium framed female with good balance of body shape to legs and paws. Medium length tail with rounded tip – unfortunately there is a very definite fixed deviation or kink towards the tip. She has a nicely rounded head with cheeks filling out well. Ears are still rather large for balance as yet. Large round hazel eyes. Broad nose, level bite in slightly square muzzle. Firm chin. Short dense coat, the colour clear but quite pale silver. Good contrast to the pattern of butterfly, spine lines and oysters. She has clear jet black facial markings and spotty tummy. Well barred legs and ringed tail. It’s a shame about the tail fault. BROWN SPOTTED ADULT MALE1ST, CC withheld – WILLIS’ LORRCLAWS CLOUDED-LEOPARD 26/03/09Well grown weighty male for his age with a slightly long but deep body with good bone to his legs and paws. His head still looks a little young by comparison – the cheeks are still filling out and he has quite large ears for balance at the moment. Large round eyes are very pale gold and have a green tinge to them. Very broad nose, level bite in slightly square muzzle, chin needs to firm. He has a lovely dense coat of good length and texture. The ground colour has richness to the copper brown. He has pleasing facial markings and necklaces of dense black, and his tummy has numerous spots. On his back, the spine line has broken into spots and there are some clear spots on either side. The rest is still linked into stripes and bars running down to his tummy and outweigh the spots in proportions of pattern. He has a tail of good length, well ringed but it just has a small fixed deviation at the tip. On balance I did not feel that he was up to the Certificate today. Sweet show temperament and lovely condition. FEMALECC, BOB – HILLYARD’S PAMPURRED PAISLEY PRINCESS 26/03/09Just coming up to a year and she has a neat frame but needs more weight. She has a well rounded head with ears which are very well furnished with hair and are quite open at the bases. Cheeks are filling out well. Large round eyes – when viewed at one angle there was a green rim, at others there was none and in the pen her eye colour appeared a strong orange. Short broad nose, level bite and firm chin. Her coat could be shorter and crisper for perfection but it is very dense. She has a good rich ground colour which contrasts with the pattern with clear facial markings and some necklaces. There are a few bars of linked spots on her sides – particularly her left side, but generally she has good spots across her body, including her tummy, and well barred legs. Medium length tail with rounded tip has black rings and a black tip. GOLDEN TIPPED ADULTBOB – HOLLANDT’S CH STEELAWAY SHADRAKmale SELKIRK REX ADULTBOB – MARSLAND-ROUND’S CH CATBALU INDIANARed & White Shorthair male MALECC - MARSLAND-ROUND’S CATBALU CRÈME-ROYALE – Cream Shorthair 17/10/05For his age, he could be bigger framed and weightier – he does not have the look of power and he looks a little feminine in some ways, although he has reasonable bone. Broad head tapers at the muzzle rather than having the squared look and padded impression. Curly and broken whiskers. Medium ears are well spaced but he tended to prick them forward. The forehead is rounded but could go a little stronger when viewed in profile. Well opened orange eyes. Broad nose with downward slant, level bite and firm chin. His coat is his best feature – it is very dense and plush, of uniform length, covering his body well. He is covered in loose random curls, showing really well, and they extend onto his legs and paws, tummy and his tail - which is of good length and has a rounded but slightly tapered tip. FEMALE1ST, CC withheld – RYAN’S CURLU MACEY – Tortie Shorthair 14/04/08Just coming up to two years old and she is a well grown mature female with a deep cobby rectangular body standing on strong medium length legs with firm round paws. Tail of good shape could be a little longer for perfection. Broad round head with full cheeks is set on a thick neck. Her ears are medium sized but could just be a little wider set. Large round well-opened eyes. Rounded forehead and downward slant to broad nose which has a small bump in profile. Unfortunately her bite is very definitely undershot – my reason for withholding the Certificate. Firm chin. She has a dense coat of uniform length which covers her body well. It just has a slightly courser feel to it and the impact of this is that the rex gene is rather understated – with slight waves rather than any random unstructured curls. No doubt the seasons and the hormones have had an impact on her coat. BLACK/CHOCOLATE/LILAC TORTIE KITTEN, FEMALE1ST, BOB – HOLLANDT’S PRIDYKATS MOONFAIRY - Black Tortie 19/06/09This kitten is approaching adulthood and is in the rangy stage now – she is quite long in the body but has good legs and paws, and she could do with being a bit more weighty, but being a naughty Tortie….….! Tail balances to body. Head is broadening and cheeks are filling out; she has well set but slightly open ears. Good round orange eyes. Broad nose and level bite, her chin still has to firm up. Her coat is reasonably dense and crisp, just a fraction long. The colours of black and shades of red are very well mingled and this includes all four paws, and they are sound to the roots. Good tempered. IMPERIAL GRAND PREMIER MALEA quality class – very difficult to choose as they would all have been worthy winners. IGPC – BOOTH’S GRCH & SUP GR PR KOLINGA COUGAR – Blue 18/06/07Very large long deep weighty male with very strong bone to short thick legs ending in firm round paws. Medium length tail with rounded tip. Very broad round head with full cheeks which just make his round gold eyes seem a little deep set. Neat ears have lovely width between. Short broad nose with good profile, level bite and firm chin. His coat is very dense and fairly short, just a little soft. The blue is even, medium and sound in shade. Good show temperament. RES IGPC – GRAHAM’S GR PR TRUBRIT BLACK PRINCE – Black 26/06/06Well grown, weighty and mature with a broad round head of British type. Good bone to legs and paws. Tail balances to body for length and has a thick base and a rounded tip. Good width between well set ears. Large round orange eyes. Short broad nose, level bite and firm chin. Short very dense coat of jet black, just a little faded at the roots. Lovely temperament. FEMALE1ST, IGPC withheld – KNIGHT’S GR PR LORASTON LANA TURNER - Cream & White 10/09/02She has a well balanced frame which is cobby, four-square and weighty. She stands on solid, well boned legs with firm rounded paws. Her tail is very short when compared to body size but it is of correct shape. Broad round head with full cheeks and neat well set ears. Her eyes are a good shade of orange, especially for her age, but they are very deep set and are under a heavy brow which detracts from their shape – they are not round nor well opened in expression. This detracts totally from the British look and as this is one of the highest awards, I did not feel that the Certificate was worthy today. Short broad nose, level bite and firm chin. Her coat is slightly long and a little soft but very dense. The cream is medium and sound in shade, quite warm in tone, and clear. She is borderline on the minimum amount of white required – it shows as a blaze on her face, and runs down from her chin onto her chest and up around her neck in a partial collar. It spreads across her chest but then narrows to a finer line down her tummy to her abdomen where it widens out again. She has white legs and paws. Good temperament. BLACK SILVER SPOTTED NEUTER MALEBOB – HARRIS’ GR PR ADVISH ESSYLTALOYSIUS PC – MAXTED’S PR SARGENTA SILVER ZENO 05/06/08He is a large, well grown cat for under two years with good bone and weight but his head has yet to mature and he lacks the full cheeks as yet. Ears appear large for balance as a result. Large round eyes – the colour spreading into a greeny hazel shade. Good profile, level bite and firm chin. His coat lies a little flat but it has good density and texture. The ground colour has some brindling to the silver but he has clear contrast to the black pattern and he has plenty of spots on his body with not too much linkage into barring. Good facial markings and necklaces, and a straight profile and a spotty tummy. Barred legs and well ringed tail of correct length and shape. AC SELF ADULT MALE1ST - GODSMARK’S SHEEPHOUSE BOBBY ROCKER – Blue 11/07/08Well grown male of good type. He has good bone and weight. Coat is dense, just a little soft, the medium blue just fading a little at the roots. 2. KRAUSE’S GR CH ADFURSH BLUE TYCHO – Blue 02/04/04Excellent maturity to this boy and he was a good looking cat but he was not prepared to let us examine him properly. 3RD HOLLANDT’S CATBALU TEENAGE RAMPAGEChocolate AC SELF ADULT FEMALE1ST - RUSE’ TRUBRIT BLACK MARIAHBlack 2ND - EVANS’ EVAVALE MAMMA MIACream 3RD LOCKETT’S MIKAZEL PEPPERMIONT PATTIRed AC BREEDER’S ADULT MALE1ST – ZERILLI’S WILLOWOOD CHARLIE MUGGINS – Blue & White 17/05/09Very weighty cobby male with short strong legs and firm paws. Good British head with well set ears and large open eyes. Excellent coat for quality and length. He has just enough white in proportion to the blue – it shows as a blaze and on his chin and chest, narrowing to run down his tummy to his abdomen where it widens. White on legs and paws. Thick tail with rounded tip. 2ND - WOLFE’S CH BUMPKIN BUFFALO BILL – Blue 19/07/07Super big male with excellent bone and weight. He has a long deep broad body, sturdy legs and big paws. Good British head with well set ears and good expression to round eyes. Level bite and good profile. His coat is dense medium blue, just silvered across the surface. X 2ND MARSLAND-ROUND’S CH CATBALU INDIANARed & White Selkirk Rex Shorthair male 3RD - WEST’S CH WESTWAYS LITTLEBILL – Cream Colourpointed 25/01/06Well grown male with a slightly long broad body. Good weight. Round head with well set ears and eyes of a good shade of blue. Broad nose, level bite and firm chin. His coat is dense and crisp with good body colour contrasting to the even points colour. AC BREEDER’S ADULT FEMALE PART A1ST - HOLLOWAY’S RAYANSHEL COLOR BY NUMBERS – Blue Tortie & White 01/05/09Lovely chunky female who is maturing well for her age. She has good proportions of clean white to colours on a short dense crisp coat. The blue and cream areas are balanced and quite warm sound shades with no silvering present. There is some good patching evident – the distribution interesting - with just some mingling of blue in the cream: it is more usually the other way around. Pretty expression to orange eyes and good general British type. 2ND - HEATON’S CATERSHAN SILVER HARRIETTEBlack Silver Tabby 3RD - MILES’ CH TUFTON ADORAMOUSE – Tortie Spotted 05/06/08Balanced well grown female with round head, well set ears and full cheeks. Round gold eyes with a hint of a green rim. Good profile and level bite. Coat is dense and short. There is pattern and some evidence of the Tortie colours overlaying it but the whole coat is quite brindled which detracts from the impact of pattern and colours a little. Well ringed tail. PART B1ST - WELLS’ WESTENBACH DONNYBROOK – Chocolate Spotted 31/03/08Nice type and balance to this female. She has good expression to gold eyes. Short dense coat with good ground colour contrasting with the chocolate spots – she has a good pattern, facial markings and barred legs. Well ringed tail. 2ND - ZERILLI’S WILLOWOOD TREACLE-MOON - Blue-Cream 17/05/09Just a youngster and she lacks the maturity of head at the moment. Lovely dense coat, short but just a fraction soft, with good mingling of delicate blue ad cream which is sound to the roots. 3RD - SHEPHERD’S CH TRUBRIT MARMIGHT – Black Tortie 06/04/08Cobby balanced female with well rounded head and neat ears. Super copper eyes and good profile and level bite. Dense coat is a little soft, and showing some scurf but the colours are rich, well mingled and sound. A bit unhappy by the time we saw her. AC ARISTOCRAT ADULT1ST - RUSE’ KABENBE JACKTHELAD – Blue & White Bi-Colour male 28/09/08Large well grown and well boned male with super crisp dense coat showing good proportions of white to blue. 2ND - RUSE’ TRUBRIT BLACK MARIAHBlack female 3RD - EVANS’ EVAVALE DIMPLESNDOTSBlue-Cream Spotted female AC KITTEN 14WKS TO 6 MNTHS1ST - KING’S BECSBRITZ SURFINA – Lilac female 19/09/09Just a youngster who has good weight and is still developing. She has big ears at the moment as her head has yet to broaden and get the roundness of full cheeks. Round eyes of good colour, good profile and level bite. Her coat is lovely – short, dense and of a clear sound pinkish lilac. Sweet temperament. 2ND - WELL’S JASUETER SNOW GODDESS – Black Tipped female 10/09/09Slightly long rangy kitten at the moment but her weight is fine. Round head with well set ears and green eyes – the shape just a little flat along the top line. Good eyeliner effect. Her coat is on the long and soft side but it has even medium tipping. AC NON-BREEDER’S KITTEN, FEMALE 1ST - MORRISS’ STEFROSHA DELIGHT – Cream & White Bi-Colour 30/06/09Rangy kitten who is over eight months old. She lacks type at present and has tall ears when set against cheeks which have yet to fill out. Super copper eyes. Slightly long coat of good texture. Good proportions of pale cream to clean white. 2ND - LESSEY’S CUTIEMAR DAISY MAY - Black Tipped female 21/08/09Another rangy kitten who has yet to fill out and gain type. She has large ears for balance at present. Round green eyes. Good profile and level bite. Her coat is long but has even tipping. Tail of good length just tapers at the tip. AC LIMIT KITTEN1ST – BOOTH’S LILLYBELLS OCHO RIOSBlack male Weighty male with good type developing and a short dense coat of sound black. Unfortunately he has a severe tail kink – a fixed deviation near the tip. It feels like damage rather than something he was born with as it is very angular. AC NEUTER RESIDENT IN OTHER AREAS1ST - BOOTH’S GRCH & SUP GR PR KOLINGA COUGARBlue male 2ND - FARMER’S GR CH & GR PR FARJEM WHITE KNIGHT – Orange-Eyed White male 08/10/05Lovely big cobby male with a long deep body and very strong bone. Good orange eyes, the set just a little deep. Good profile and level bite. His coat is dense and crisp, just looking a little open today but clean white. Ran the two winners very close in the Imperial class. 3RD - COULTHURST’S PR SHADOWSMINE SILVER SHIMMERBlack Silver Tabby female
