Show Report from Shar Crichton Edinburgh and East of Scotland Cat club show Saturday 17th July 2010

My thanks to Isobel and Denise for the invitation and to the club for their hospitality. The new show hall had excellent natural daylight which was a great asset to check coat and eye colour in the cats. My grateful thanks to Joanna Lamont for her excellent company on the day and for her skilful handling of the exhibits, a few of whom were slightly fractious and upset at this time of year.

Open classes Chinchilla Neuter

1st only. PC Withheld Elliott’s PR STARSPANGLE GLITZY BOLAN

A most attractive chinchilla boy who has lovely type and who looks very demure in his pen until one tries to get him out and he does not like it and means business! Such a shame as he has the makings of a Premier exhibit and it was only for this reason that a certificate could not be awarded. He has a wide top of head with neatly placed ears, set far apart and with long silvery ear feathers. Beautiful, fully round eyes of large size, edged with black and with good blue green eye colour that was just a touch lighter at the edges and having a lovely expression. Broad short nose had a definite nose break and a fully formed nose leather that was a deep pink edged with black. Good wide muzzle and full cheeks with a firm balanced chin. The bite was not seen purely for personal protection! Body size was large and cobby in shape with a broad rump and short thick legs with black paw pads. He had a long and very full coat that was soft and in excellent condition. Fluffy trousers and a short bushy tail with a full frill. The chin, bib and underside were pure white while the top of head, body and tail were lightly tipped with black. A well presented boy.

Miscellaneous classes AC Persian Not Bred by Exhibitor Adult Male

1 Niven’s GR CH DOLINA XCALIBAR

A large solid well built and mature exotic black male who is almost six years of age. He has excellent type with a strong head that was wide and had well set ears of small size. Expressive large round eyes with good copper colour that had not faded with age. Full cheeks with a broad muzzle and a strong chin but however the bite was not seen. The nose was very short and broad and had a strong nose break and good size nostrils. Body shape was cobby with a thick neck, a large well rounded rump and supported on short thick legs. The coat was shiny and a sound black and felt fairly plush and dense although he was moulting a little at this time of year. The tail was short and very thick. A cheeky boy who did not want to be handled.

 AC Persian Junior Adult

1 Campbell’s DEDANNAN RICH TAPESTRY

A delightful tortie and white exotic girl who is just over a year old. She had lovely type and was very cobby with short legs and was still very kitten like in size and temperament. Good head width with dinky small well set ears. Short snub nose with a strong nose break and rather small pink nose leather with small nasal openings. Fat chubby cheeks, good muzzle width which was white with a strong red chin and a near level bite. She had a white bib and underside and had a cute black patch over her tummy. Face and back were well patched showing bright red and black although there was a hint of tabby lines on the red areas on her flanks which hopefully will disappear in time. One ear was black and the other was red and her tail was fat, thick and short. The coat was dense, short and plush and felt soft although she was moulting a little. A little show off when handled and who was very cute and cuddly with a happy relaxed temperament.

2 Smith’s ZILVA TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS

Another delightful girl, a chinchilla, aged eleven months, who has excellent type and who is very pretty. She has a correct cobby shape with a rounded rump set on short legs that had rounded paws with clean black paw pads. Body size was still a little small and light in weight but she has some more maturing to do as an adult I am sure. Good head width with fairly neat ears that had long silver ear feathers. Huge saucer shaped eyes, with black outlines and were very expressive with excellent deep blue green eye colour that is not often seen in this breed of late. Short snub nose had a deep pink nose leather edged with black. Her cheeks were well rounded and full and she had a strong chin that balanced the upper face and a good scissor bite. The coat was of medium length and was soft and very well prepared. The chi, bib and underside were white and she had very light tipping over the head and back although it was a little darker over the lower rump and top of tail and was showing some slight tarnishing which detracted a little from her appearance on the day and lost her the first place in the class. A little poppet who was very relaxed when handled.

AC Persian Senior Adult

1 Dembski’s QUIZZICAT SORREL

Almost five years of age, this tortie has good type and a sweet and very pretty facial expression. Body shape was cobby and she was well grown, solid and had short strong legs. Small well set ears were placed far apart on a broad top of head. Short nose that had a strong nose break and was broad in shape, full nose leather of both pink and black and good nasal openings. Fat chubby cheeks with a balanced strong red chin and a broad muzzle with an acceptable bite. The eyes were large and rounded and had very good copper eye colour for her age. There was a rich red patch over the back of her head although the body itself was more intermingled shades of red and black rather than patched. All four paws were broken and the coat was soft , of medium length and was just a little lacking in density in these warm summer months. A well behaved girl who was easy to handle.

AV Persian/ SLH Visitors Adult

A large and super class of cats, so many of my favourites here, for whom I would have happily given extra firsts but I had to put them in some order for the show but however did give some extra seconds and third places. A tough choice but I would like exhibitors to know that a lower placing here certainly did not mean that I did not admire their cat! I have, therefore, written a critique for all of them.

1 McCluskey’s JENZJEWELS SPOILT FORCHOICE

A super red tabby colourpoint boy who is just over a year old and who has excellent type and a personality to match. I just love his type and body shape which is truly cobby and rounded, strong and muscular with short thick legs. Broad chest and thick neck with a rounded rump. He had a long soft coat with fluffy trousers and a short thick fully plumed tail. Excellent width to head with just a hint of a slight head bump now and carrying small well set ears, spaced far apart which had rich red pigment. Lovely large eyes, well rounded and spaced well apart with bold expression and excellent blue colour. Broad, very short nose which had a very strong nose break, a full pink nose leather and good size nasal openings. Broad muzzle with fat cheeks and a strong chin. The bite was very slightly overshot which should become perfectly level as the jaw line strengthens as he matures. Tabby markings on the head were clearly evident over the red points. He had a well defined mask with a spotted muzzle and pale spectacles around the eyes. The face had pencilling on the cheeks and a clear ‘M’ on his forehead. The legs had faint barring and the tail had a hint of tabby rings. A real gentle cat with a lovely temperament when handled and who was shown with excellent preparation.

2 Skilling’s CH CHEHAM TIGERLILLEY

A blue colourpointed tabby ragdoll nearly three years of age with lovely type and one who really caught my eye. She had a long well muscled body with a short neck medium height legs with large rounded paws. A broad flat top of head had medium size ears that were well opened and set well apart. Expressive and lovely deep blue eyes had visible pale spectacles and her nose was of medium length with a gentle dip at the nasal bridge and a slightly retrousee tip that had a pink nose leather. The muzzle had whisker pads that were spotted and she had a firm chin and a level bite. The coat was long and very soft and was a bluish white shade with good blue tabby markings visible on a light beige ground. The forehead had a clear ‘M’ and the face had good facial lines. The coat was, however, showing faint tabby lines down her back and flanks and she had a long fully furnished tail. Show presentation was very good and she had a lovely gentle temperament

. Extra 2 Craig and Bell’s CH SHEERBLISS MYSTICAL CHARM

A tortie silver tabby and white exotic girl just over a year old with good type. Body shape was cobby and she had a solid frame with short legs. Pleasing head type with good width of top and neat round tipped ears that were spaced well apart. Large eyes, fully round with fabulous deep copper colour that does not come any deeper. Short nose with a strong stop and a pink nose leather. Fat chubby cheeks, good muzzle width, strong chin and a not quite level bite. Her muzzle was white and she had a white chin and underside as well as four white paws. The coat was of medium length and the colour over the back had excellent red and black patches over a silvery ground and with darker shading at the roots at present. However, she was moulting heavily and changing her coat so that it also was not very plush or dense at present but allowance was made for the time of year. The tail was short and thick and had distinct tabby rings. A well behaved girl with a friendly nature.

3 Forbes’s GR CH WEESAMS ABBI

I really like this brown tabby norwegian girl as she has caught my eye whenever I have seen her at a show. She had good norwegian type and a lovely gentle temperament as well. She is over three years of age and has a firm, large physique with good boning, supported on well muscled legs which had rounded well feathered paws. Head shape was triangular, of good width with a slightly rounded forehead. Perfect straight profile with a nose that had a fully formed pink nose leather. The ears were tall, sitting high and well open at the base and had long ear feathers. The eyes were large and oval shaped with blue green eye colour and were set slightly oblique in the face. She had a firm chin and a level bite. The coat was fairly long and had a woolly undercoat with a ruff and knickerbockers. It was covered by a smooth top coat that was well marked with tabby pattern that had excellent agouti banding throughout. A gentle and sweet girl with great presence and who was a delight to handle.

Extra 3 McGowan’s BULLAMOOR DARK SECRET

A seal point birman girl of fifteen months of age who was of medium size with a well grown, firm physique with good boning supported on medium height legs with short rounded paws. She has pleasing birman type with a broad rounded head that had well spaced medium size ears. Her eyes were large, not fully round and were bright and expressive with lovely deep blue eye colour. Correct profile had a nose with a slight dip at the nasal bridge and was of medium length with a full seal brown nose leather. High cheek bones gave her face plenty of width and she had fully rounded cheeks with whiskers that were both seal brown and white. She had a firm chin that tapered slightly and balanced the upper part of the face and also had a good level bite. The coat was of medium length with a short ruff and was of a pale beige shade and was soft and with a silky texture and had some shading over the back. Her tail was in proportion to the body length and was well furnished. The points were a good seal brown and the colour of the ears and face matched well while the limbs and tail were a shade lighter. Foot markings were clean and pure white with well matched gloves on both paw surfaces and which were very slightly scalloped and just a touch low across the paw line. The socks were almost matching with the left one just slightly shorter than the right. The gauntlets were symmetrical, matching and tapered well towards the hock. A promising girl whose progress I shall watch with interest.

4 Davidson’s SHAWCOON DUSK TILL DAWN

A Tortie classic tabby and white maine coon girl, almost one year and a half. A large well built female with a long rectangular body that was solid and muscular with a fairly long neck and ending with a square shaped rump carried on substantial legs that had large rounded paws with short tufts. Medium length head which carried fairly tall ears that were open at the base and tapering to a point at the tips, set fairly high, with tufts and paler ear feathers. Correct profile with a uniform width nose that had a shallow curve at the nasal bridge and a full size deep pink nose leather. Full and round eye shape spaced well apart in the face had a slight oblique setting with very attractive green eye colour and showing distinct pale spectacles. Her muzzle was fairly square and she had good cheeks, a firm chin and a level bite. Tabby markings were very good throughout being dense black over a rich warm copper agouti base overlaid with rich red patches. She had excellent face markings all present, an inverted white chevron over the lower face and the body was showing three clear spine lines and a strong butterfly. The bib and underside were pure white and she had the mandatory four white socks on her feet. Coat length was shorter over the head and longer over her ruff and breeches and she had a long well feathered tail.

 5 Wright’s POWERKATZ HERO

A classic brown tabby and white boy aged one and a half and who already has an excellent physique, large size and strong build. Great body length, very rectangular in shape with a broad chest, fairly long thick neck, square shaped rump set on strong well muscled legs with large round paws. Medium length head with a good square muzzle and full cheek width. Fairly tall ears with tufts and feathering and well open at the base but which could have been sitting more upright on his skull. The nose was of uniform width and had a shallow concave curve at the nasal bridge and a very slight nose bump at the tip with a full pink nose leather. The nasal bridge was not quite equidistant between the nose tip and ear line and the chin could have been firmer and was a touch weak. Large round eyes had yellow green eye colour and were outlined with spectacles set slightly oblique. The bite was level and he had white on his muzzle, a white collar, bib and a white underside which was a touch chubby rather than lean. The tabby markings were clear and distinct on the head and upper face with pencilling on the cheeks and good eye lines. The back had three dense black lines over a warm copper agouti ground. He had a frontal ruff and longer shaggy fur on the breeches and a fully feathered tail that did not quite reach his shoulder s but tapering at the tip and showing faint tabby rings. A well mannered gentleman.

AC Persian Non-Self Kitten

1 Smith’s ZILVA ANGELICA PICKLES

A delightful chinchilla kitten of five months of age with lovely type and perfect cobby shape on short little legs. She had a lovely full coat that was long, very soft and flowing, lightly tipped with black and a short plumed tail. Neat ears that were well placed on the head and had long silver ear feathers. A short snub nose had the correct deep pink nose leather edged with black. Huge saucer shaped eyes with excellent depth of blue green eye colour and circled with black mascara. Good depth of chin and a scissor bite. The chin, bib and underside were pure white and she had clean black paw pads. A small kitten for her age and rather light in weight at present but she had plenty of time on her side. A little poppet when handled and with the temperament to be a show girl.

AC Persian Debutante Kitten

1 Wrong coloured Armour’s BARNMOUR BLUEBERRYICE

A four month old black smoke and white bicolour exotic kitten who was incorrectly registered in my book as a blue smoke and white but was however judged as a black smoke bicolour. He was a very attractive boy with good solid cobby body shape and a strong head. Large round eyes had excellent copper colour and bold expression. The ears were neat, one black and one white and he had a short nose with a strong nose break, pink nose leather and good size nasal openings. The bite was level and he had a strong balanced white chin, broad white muzzle and fat chubby cheeks. The forehead and upper part of the face was black while his body was mainly white with dense black spots and patches on his back and was showing a distinct silvery white undercoat . The patches of black were a little untidy at the edges having a lot of straggly white guard hairs at present. The front paws were a clean white and were fat and rounded . The coat was dense and thick and felt fairly plush ending with a short thick fully black tail. A very good natured kitten with a lovely temperament.

The coat markings were a rich shade of red over a bright apricot ground and were distinct over the head which had a clear ‘M’ on the forehead, head lines and pencilling on the cheeks. The shoulders had a strong butterfly and there were several lines down his sides. The bib and underside were white and he had white socks on all his four big tufted paws. The upper part of the limbs had tabby barring and the tail which was very long and flowing reaching to the shoulders with excellent tabby rings. The coat had a shiny top coat and was short over the head but lengthened into a frontal ruff down his neck and to the shoulders. A gentle giant of a cat who handled well.
