A Huge Loss to The Cat World

News broke on 11th August 2009 of Julia May finally succumbed to her long battle with an illness none of us can imagine enduring for as long and as bravely as Julia did.

I first met Julia in 2004 when she instructed me on proper 'netiquette' after I had not credited her for information I had used on The Planets from her wonderful Palantir site - I like to think that from that day on we were friends.

Throughout the last five years, Julia's determination, hard work and love for the Cat Fancy and her Cats has been of a great inspiration to me.

I will miss Julia very very much and ask you all to share your memories of a great woman who gave much of her life to our Cat Fancy in a tribute to someone I am sure we will all miss very very much.

I never met Julia, but I have frequently met her reputation! I did know her wonderful Palantir site, and it is sad that so much expertise has gone with her passing. She was, I know, always generous with her knowledge, so perhaps some of this lives on in those she so kindly advised. RIP

Julia always impressed me with her calm and her knowledge. As a long term delegate for the ACA I have witnessed her capabilities in adressing the meetings and coping with difficult questions on many occasions. I was priviledged to steward for her in her veterinary capacity and learned quite a lot from her. I am sad to her of her death but now, free from all pain I wish her a calm crossing and eternal rest. Sleep well Julia.

It was with great sadness that I heard that Julia had left us.

My favourite memory of Julia was at the Supreme last year when just after my Maine Coon Tutti won Supreme Exhibit Julia asked me to sit down next to her and tell her all about Tutti and let her have a cuddle. She was really intrested in me and Tutti. Rest in peace Julia

It was with great sadness to learn that Julia is now no longer with us, despite her long and courageous struggle against her illness..

She had been a member of our Club since 1970 and then became a Life Member.

I had personally known Julia since becoming involved in the Cat Fancy – early 70’s when at that time she was very active in breeding and showing under her Prefix Palantir, and which she was still doing in the 21st Century.

Julia will be greatly missed by the Cat Fancy as a whole for her vast knowledge and expertise and will be hard a hard act to replace.

When one had an odd ball query – the only person to seek advice from was Julia and she always had the answer.

We send our deepest sympathy to her family at this very sad time.

A huge loss to the Fancy. Julia was always happy to give me any advice when I sought it. She fought her illness admirably and there is no doubt that her sheer determination kept her going.
Rest In Peace Julia.

I was very sad to hear the news of Julia's passing although it wasn't unexpected. She was one of the true characters of the cat fancy and I have many memories of her. At least her suffering has ended. God bless.

Peter and I add our sincere condolences at this sad time - a small personal rememberance of Julia when I just judged some HPs at a HOLCC show long ago and, despite her duties as a full HP judge and duty vet that day, she still found some spare time to talk me through things and stop me being so nervous - small things mean so much as memories, and she was a marvellous academic and a respected cat expert - am sure tat she will be so so missed - rest in peace Miss May and amen.

God Bless you Julia. I last had a chat with you at the Tonkinese and Balinese earlier in the year. You will never be forgotten for your dedication to the Cat World and you will be sadly missed.
Rest in Peace to a Lady who fought such an illness with such tenacity and bravery.

Such sad news, I did not know Julia personally, but I am sure she will be remembered as one of the 'special people' in our cat world.

Julia May was one of the first people I encountered when I began showing in 1991. She seemed to be a person of inexhaustible vitality, confidence and capability and so it is difficult to believe that she will not be around any more. The cat fancy is the poorer for her passing. We will not see her like again. Rest in peace, Julia.
