Sad news reached Cat Planet last night of the passing of GCCF Judge and Executive Member Mary Kalal.

Mary had been ill for some time but battled on with her cat show commitments.

Facebook is filled with fond memories of Mary and is quoted as 'never having a bad word said against her'.

Mary's sister is judge and Executive member, Anne Gregory.

Cat Planet extends their condolences at this sad time.

Although we are quite new to the showing game, Mary gave our Tonk her first PC and set us on our way. She said some lovely things about our cat and it is with a heavy heart with learn that she has passed away. RIP Mary and we send our deepest sympathies to your family. God bless

What a loss, Dear Mary.
At the Surrey and Sussex 2011 I observed Mary judging one of my kittens and as the steward presented the kitten to Mary, I saw Mary lift his rt paw and kiss it and then his left paw received the same tender attention; Mary then took my kitten from the steward arms and held him close, kissing his head. Mary did not just judge, she was at one with cats.
So not only I will miss her but my cats will miss her too.
Rest in peace Mary and my condolences to your dear family and friends x

I am greatly saddened by the news of Mary's passing. I will always remember with utmost pleasure, the many show days I spent working with her. She always had a kind and positive word to say about each cat, and was equally kind and generous towards her fellow judges, stewards, show committees and exhibitors. She was greatly appreciated and respected by all who knew her. A really lovely person, who will be sorely missed by everyone in the Cat Fancy.
I extend my sincere and heartfelt condolences to her sister Anne, Brian and all the Family.

I was so shocked to hear the very sad news this morning about Mary. She was one of the nicest people in the cat fancy that I had ever had the pleasure of meeting. I stewarded for her on many occasions, and she was always eager to pass on her knowledge and support. She will be sorely missed by the Cat Fancy. My deepest condolences go out to Anne and the rest of her family. xxx

I was deeply shocked to hear that the lovely Mary Kalal has passed away. I was so upset to hear this news, i remember when i used to show my beautiful ragdoll Ladibyrd Curacao over 15 years ago, i used to get the loveliest critiques from her and she always had time to talk to you if you needed help.
Mary will be very much missed in the cat fancy. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her Sister and Family and Friends. xx

Darling Mary. I am sitting here in tears reading this very sad news. Mary was the Judge that inspired me to show my Bengal LOUIE as a HHP. She adored him and when he won BIS at Eastleigh and she was judging Overall BIS she got him out and gave him a cuddle. That is Louie with Mary at the bottom of the pictures in the middle and it is one of my most cherished photos. My most favourite judge and such a wonderful, wonderful lady. My thoughts are with her family at this very sad time. I will miss her so much but think of her often with affection and fond memories. Dawn and Louie xx

Mary judged my cat at my first ever show and was quietly encouraging when I was all in a flap. Such a lovely lady, who from the comments I tead will be much missed. Condolences to her sister, family and friends. X

I was deeply upset to hear the tragic news that Mary had passed away. Mary to me summed up all that was so good about the Cat Fancy, a good honest judge with a smile always on her face. Her dedication to judging, encouragement of new exhibitors and dedication to the Fancy as a whole will be greatly missed. I valued her support and advise so much when I first started out and even when I attended shows without a cat she would always ask how they were. Mary played a huge role in the day my Maine Coon Neuter Girl became Supreme Exhibit by awarding her the BOV. Mary had a way with my girl of making her so calm, in fact at the Maidstone and Medway show after the Supreme I was trying to get some professional pictures of her and in a typically Tortie way she was having none of it. Mary appeared, scooped her up, gave her a cuddle, had a word and Tutti then behaved perfectly! I swear Tutti always remembered Mary and would behave herself in Mary
