Ginger and white moggy Beezley likes nothing more than hopping into mailman Terry Grinter's basket and helping him deliver the post.

The six-year-old puss joins him on his round at least twice a week - and he's not even the postie's cat.

Beezley took a shine to Mr Grinter last summer when the 44-year-old stopped to give him a scratch about his ears. Now they are as famous in Lyme Regis, Dorset, as children's TV favourite Postman Pat and his black and white cat, Jess.

'I'm a cat lover, so I always used to stroke him. The first time I lifted him into my basket, I expected him to jump straight out,' said Mr Grinter. 'He likes sunny days - he's definitely not a wet-weather cat.'

He said Beezley is happy to doze in the basket but as soon as they get near his owner Peter Ward's house, he jumps out and pads home.
