THE HERTFORDSHIRE & MIDDLESEX CAT CLUB – MRS ANNE GREGORY – 6.9.2008

Warm hospitality, cats of superb quality and an excellent steward to guide me through a busy day; I would like to thank all concerned for the invitation to judge and my steward, Sarah Walker for her hard work and excellent company. I really enjoyed my day.

AV SLH GRAND CHAMPION, MALE

1 IGC BARLETTA’S UK & IMP GR CH COONTASTIC LUIGI, 64 31FTS, M, 23.5.2004

A strong, masculine Maine Coon who was looking really impressive. Excellent size, substance, bone and balance. Medium length head with some jowls but not sufficient to blur the head type. Large ears, set and held tall. Broad at the base and tufted at the tips. Full, round eyes with a slightly oblique setting. Very good profile and strong chin. Excellent square muzzle. Level bite. Thick, muscular neck. Long, rectangular body with breadth of chest and a solid, muscular feel to him. Substantial legs with large, tufted paws. Tail of good length and reasonably well furnished. His winter coat is developing with the breeches and belly fur looking fairly full and shaggy. Excellent presentation, he was in superb condition and has a wonderful temperament. The hall lighting did nothing for the delicate cream silver tabby colour but I made allowance for the lighting on a number of cats.

AV SLH GRAND CHAMPION, FEMALE

1 IGC MURRAY’S GR CH ISADORYOU FIREFLY, 64 41EW, F, 18.5.2007

A beautiful female of excellent type and quality. Excellent head with large, tall ears that were well tufted. Medium length head with high cheekbones and fairly full cheeks. Firm, square muzzle. Strong chin with depth. Excellent profile showing shallow concave curve at the bridge and the nose was of uniform width. Expressive eyes that were large, full and round with an oblique setting. Good size and substance for her age, the back was long and straight with depth to the chest. Strong legs and large, round tufted paws. Excellent tail – long with width at the base and very well furnished. Excellent coat that was beautifully prepared and presented. Excellent coat texture. Rich tortie tabby pattern with sparkling white. Excellent condition and a feisty temperament but it was all talk! I understand she was later awarded “Best Semi-Longhair” – many congratulations.

AC NON-SELF PERSIAN PREMIER, MALE

– A strong class of impressive cats where several worthy contenders had to remain cardless.

1 GPR PEACHEY’S IMP GR PR CASHEL HEADBOY, 54, MN, 11.7.2003

Such a handsome Golden with an excellent head and deep emerald eyes that were so expressive. The head had breadth and was well rounded with excellent width between the neat little ears. The latter were well furnished and set well apart. Lovely breadth at the muzzle. Snub nose and brick leather outlined in black. Good chin. The eyes are such a feature on this cat, they are large and round with black liner. Very balanced cobby body with short, strong legs and tufted paws. The short, bushy tail gave overall balance. Long, dense, silky coat that was beautifully prepared and presented. Frill frames the face well. Excellent rich undercoat that was a clear apricot with no hint of grey at the roots; it deepened to gold on the back. The black tipping was even and heavier on the lower back and tail. Solid black “heels” and paw pads. Shown in excellent condition and he is such a character!

RES: ROGERS GR CH & PR LIEBEKATZ CUTABOVE THEREST, 12A1, MN, 13.6.2005

Another really impressive cat of excellent type and conformation. His head was round and massive with breadth and balance to the skull. Small ears, rounded at the tips and well furnished were set wide apart and low in the contours of the head. Rounded forehead and short, broad nose of even width with a stop. Full muzzle and firm chin. Large eyes that were full and round with a bold expression. Good orange tone. Large body that was cobby, solid and muscular. The chest was broad and deep. He stood low on short, thick legs. Large, round, tufted paws. Short, bushy tail that balanced well. Super coat, it was long and thick with a fine texture. Pure white and virtually sound, dense black. He had a large black patch on the top of the head and a smaller one above the left eye. Three black patches on his back and a fully coloured tail. Excellent condityion and temperament. I debated long and hard between these two top quality cats and had to split hairs – in the end, I felt Cashel Headboy had the better eye colour, but it was a close decision.

AC NON-SELF PERSIAN PREMIER, FEMALE

1 GPR ILLSLEY’S GR PR KITTYVILLE MAKUSHLA, 70 22, FN, 28.10.2003

A very attractive Exotic with type and balance. Broad head with rounded contours and neat little ears set well apart and low. Full cheeks and well developed muzzle. In profile the forehead was rounded; short, broad nose with a full leather. Firm chin. Large eyes, full and round. Deep orange tone and a lovely bold expression. Cobby body that was solid and muscular with excellent boning to the legs. She stood low with depth to the chest. Tail balanced well. Summer coat, but she was well presented and it stood away from the body with reasonable density. Bright red and dense black patches that were very attractive. The white was immaculate. Excellent condition and temperament.

AC PERSIAN SILVER TABBY ADULT

1 CC + BOB ROGERS’ CH PICKWICK LADY BEGOOD, 7E, F, 31.5.2007

A very pretty female who is developing well. The skull had breadth and was well rounded although the muzzle narrowed slightly. The tufted ears were set well apart, they were small, neat and rounded at the tips. The forehead was rounded. Short, broad nose with a stop and a full, brick leather. Very expressive eyes, they were large, round and bold. Excellent clear orange tone. Her cheeks were full and the chin had depth. Very good body, legs and tail. She had been well presented and her colouring was lovely – a good silver tortie tabby with almost autumnal shades of red against the silver tabby ground. The facial markings were clearly defined as were the leg bars and tail rings. The classic pattern was more diffuse on the body but could be seen if one stood back. Excellent condition and a delightful personality.

BROWN PERSIAN TABBY ADULT

1 CC + BOB RAWLINGS’ TRACYLOOE TY-PHOO, 8, M, 1.11.2007

An impressive and promising young male, such a lovely size and substance for ten months. His head was broad and rounded with neat, well-tufted ears set well apart and low in the contours. The forehead was rounded and the nose short, broad and with a stop. The leather was full and a very good brick colour with a black outline. Full cheeks and broad muzzle. Level bite and strong chin. Excellent eyes, they were full, round and a deep orange tone. Excellent bold, confident expression. Short, thick neck. The body was cobby, strong and solid with short, sturdy legs and large, round, tufted paws. Short, full tail to balance. The coat was dense and silky, a very good length for the season and really glossy. He had some frill to frame the face. Impressively rich, coppery agouti ground and dense black markings. Well defined facial markings with the “M” on the forehead and pencilling to the cheeks. Lines ran over the head to the shoulders. Some of the body markings were more diffuse but there was the suggestion of a butterfly, two lines of agouti broke the black saddle that is there at present and promises the spine lines are developing. The oysters had some definition. Smudgy spots to the belly. Excellent leg barring and tail rings. He was beautifully presented, in excellent condition and had such an affectionate temperament – prize winning purr!

AC TABBY BI OR TRI-COLOUR PERSIAN KITTEN

1 + BOB SWAIN’S QUARTET HELIOS, 12a1t, M, 15.1.2008

Wow! This kitten was superb! It was a real privilege to judge him as he was of wonderful type, pattern, size, substance and overall balance. Round, massive head showing excellent breadth and balance of skull. Neat little round tipped ears were set wide apart and low on the head, fitting well into the rounded contours. They were very well furnished. Full cheeks and muzzle with strength to the jaw already. In profile the forehead was rounded, with a short, broad nose of uniform width and a stop. The brick nose leather was fully formed with full nostrils. Excellent bite and firm chin. Excellent cobby body that was solid and muscular. The chest had breadth and the shoulders and rump are developing well. Excellent muscle tone. He stood low on short, thick legs with large, round, firm tufted paws. Short, bushy tail that balanced well. Exquisite coat that was groomed to the last hair! It was long, thick, fine and soft. The white was immaculate and the brown tabby rich – really sable in tone on the agouti with defined black markings. He had a large patch of brown tabby on the top of his head and nose. There was a white chevron below. There was a small patch on one side and one legs. Fully coloured, well ringed tail. A real show kitten, he thoroughly enjoyed being judged and just took my breath away! Later Best Persian Exhibit – Many congratulations on a well deserved win on a day when there were some beautiful Persians in competition.

BENGAL SNOW SPOTTED ADULT

1 CC/WH MORGAN-OWEN’S ARCATIA CARTIN LEONA, 76B 30, F, 4.10.2007

A young female who still has some maturing to do. Medium wedge that was a little narrow and needing more definition to the cheekbones. The head was small in proportion to the body and there was the desired gentle curve from the forehead to the bridge of the nose. The muzzle fined but the bite was level. Medium ears that were fairly wide at the base but set and held too high. Rather oriental eye shape and set. Definite blue. Long, fine body with a muscular feel. The legs and tail were also rather fine. Medium coat but it lacked density. Reasonable spotting although there was some linkage on the sides. Shown in excellent condition and I must really congratulate her owners on her superb, affectionate and gentle temperament. She was clearly a much loved cat that responds well to people and was not at all upset by rather noisy cats that were penned nearby.

BENGAL SNOW MARBLED ADULT, MALE

1 IC/NA COULTHURST’S JUNGLEFIRE SNOWDRIFT, 76B20, M, 12.7.2004

This male was extremely feisty, noisy and difficult to handle. I could not assess him properly nor assess his bite so I was not able to award the Intermediate Certificate and my critique is just the impression I had when he was returned to the pen. He looked of good type but the profile was absolutely straight and he had jowls that did make the head look less balanced. Large, broad nose with the desired slightly puffed leather. Good eyes for shape, set and colour. Weak chin. Lean and rangy but the coat felt good. The pattern appeared well defined.

BENGAL SNOW MARBLED ADULT, FEMALE

1 IC/NA CHISNALL’S FINEGOLD SNOWGODDESS, 76A20, F, 28.9.2007

A rather lean, rangy female with a separated, open coat that did not appear to be in show condition. The head was of medium length but rather narrow with a fine muzzle and a pinch. The ears were rather large for balance, wide at the base and rounded at the tips. They were set well. The profile showed a gentle curve. Fair chin. Fine body, legs and tail. The open coat meant the pattern lacked definition. Rich colour and contrast. Good temperament.

TABBYPOINT SIAMESE NEUTER

1 PR + BOB HARRINGTON’S GR CH & UK & IMPERIAL GR PR LITTLEFEAT MOONSTONE, 32/6. MN, 15.9.1997

What a pleasure to judge this handsome cat of excellent type and quality. He was proud, confident and looking superb for his age. Long, well balanced wedge with even lines to the muzzle. There was width between the large, pricked ears. They were wide at the base and followed the lines of the wedge to give an equilateral triangle. Oriental eyes of excellent shape and colour. Wicked expression that I just loved! Straight profile and good chin. Elegant neck and excellent head carriage. Long, svelte body with fine legs and whip tail. Excellent cream tabby markings. Short, fine coat that was close lying and glossy. Excellent condition and temperament.

AC PERSIAN NON-SELF KITTEN (14 WEEKS – 6 MONTHS)

1 MERCHANT’S HONEYGEM SUNKISSED HERO, 51D, M, 5.5.2008

A handsome and promising kitten with very good type and balance. Excellent size, bone and substance for his age. Broad head with rounded contours and small, well furnished ears set wide apart. Snub nose and firm chin with a level bite. Large eyes with a copper tone developing well and a very pleasing expression. Cobby little body that felt solid and muscular. Short, strong legs. Short tail that was bushy. Baby coat that was silky and fine. Beautifully presented and so confident. Light silvery undercoat that was very lightly shaded with red. When held against my white coat, I could see the red extended almost a third of the way down the shaft from the tip. There was a little patch between the shoulder blades where the red shading was heavier. The face was evenly shaded and was pale with no mask. The frill is developing and was silvery, as was the furnishing in the ears. Pink nose leather and paw pads. Excellent condition and temperament.

2 MERCHANT’S REMILAKAT SILKEN DORIS, 53, F, 28.4.2008

A delightful baby with such a pretty face and eyes. Well grown and beautifully presented. The head had breadth with rounded contours and a broad, snub nose with a brick leather outlined in black. Large eyes, full and round with a pleasing deep orange tone developing. Firm chin and good bite. The body was firm and muscular, she was cobby and strong but feminine. Short, sturdy legs and the short, bushy tail balanced well. Pristine silvery white coat with the black mantle beginning to develop. There was some shading where the black is coming through but there also was clear contrast. Black eye rims and paw pads. Minimal smudgy tabby markings. Excellent condition and temperament.

3 ANGUS’ PALCHINNO MISSYBUSKIN, 13, F, 21.4.2008

Very much a “baby”. Fair type and balance overall. The head was rounded with some breadth of skull. The ears were prominent, rounded at the tips, set and held rather high. They are open at the base at present. They were well furnished. The eyes were a dark, “muddy” tone that was promising, but they were a little small and deep set. Short, reasonably broad nose with a blue leather. Level bite and good chin. Medium body that was cobby with a firm, muscular feel. Short, thick legs and round, tufted paws. Short tail with the fur developing, a little thin at present. The coat was of medium length and fairly thick. The texture was fine, a typical “baby” coat. The blue and the cream were pastel in tone and almost sound to the roots. I took her to a daylight lamp as it was difficult to see the cream intermingled through the coat although some patches were apparent on the paws, nose and at the base of the right ear. I could see some cream hairs among the medium blue on the back so it does promise to be well intermingled on the body. I felt the preparation could have been better, but she was in good condition and had a sweet temperament.

AC PERSIAN NON-SELF KITTEN (6 – 9 MONTHS)

1 SWAIN’S QUARTET HELIOS, 12a1t, M, 15.1.2008

2 ROLLERSON’S SHOU BARBARELLA, 13B12, F, 15.1.2008

- A very pleasing Colourpoint, unlucky to meet the winner.
