COVENTRY AND LEICESTER CAT CLUB SHOW 28TH FEBRUARY 2009

JUDGES REPORT MS JANE E. ALLEN

Thanks to Mark, Lesley and the committee for the kind invitation to judge at the show this year. A very busy but enjoyable day all round, made even better by having my dear friend Anna to steward! She is such a great steward as well as super company and the cats appreciate her gentle handling as much as I do!!!

AOV SLH PREMIER MALE what a fantastic class of quality neuters!

GR PR TURNERS PR GROOVICATS SPIRIT OF AMERICA 66

A most impressive young man who just had such presence! Super head and type with nicely set ears on a flat plane. Nicely rounded muzzle and cheeks. Expressive eyes of lovely deep blue in colour. Super profile with retrousse nose. Chin balances nicely. Very well grown with super physique. Medium length limbs with strong paws. Tail balances his body. Very well shown and such a lovely boy to handle.

RES GR PR TURNERS PR MAJANCO INDIGO GEM 64 20a

Another really very lovely exhibit with large high set ears with lovely tufts and tips. High cheek bones. Nice head balance width to length. Shallow concave curve to profile just a hint of a slight bump on his nose. Lovely perpendicular line and firm chin. Massive frame with lovely boning to his long legs. Tail in proportion to his body. Lovely mushroom ground colouring with a pleasing shade of blue and distinct tabby patterning. Very well shown.

AOV SLH PREMIER FEMALE

GR PR BUNCES GR PR KEVERSTONE CLEMENTINE 64 31et

I have not seen this lovely girl for a while and she was looking absolutely lovely today. Very balanced head type with large nicely set ears with super tufts and tips. Expressive eyes that were large and slightly obliquely set. High cheek bones with very nice breadth to length balance. Shallow concave curve to profile and nice perpendicular line from nose tip to chin. Substantial frame with lovely boning and long tail. Her coat was very well shown and with lovely vibrant colours and patterning. She was very nervous but we were able to appreciate her finer qualities while she was happy on our table.

RES GR PR STABLES IMP GR CH & PR CANONNA MERLIESIN MELODY 63b

Super Somali who pushed Clementine very close in deed. In the most fantastic condition for a 91/2 year old! Such a sweet girl with the most lovely head type, so gently rounded and with the typical Somali smile. Very nicely set ears with the real crescent shape. Expressive eyes large, and accentuated by the dark surrounding colouring and her spectacles. Slight nose break to profile. Her body was very well muscled and well fed! Long elegant limbs with oval paws. Her tail just a little on the sort side for balance. Her coat was fine and close lying along her spine, with a pleasing ruff and breeches. Very nicely ticked coat with rich chestnut brown colouring, consisting of dark chocolate ticking and a warm spricot base coat. Very well shown.

RED SELF ADULT FEMALE

1 CC BOB MORRIS COUNTRYGIRL CHERRYBLOSSOM 4

Sweet young female of 10 months. Broad top of head with neat well ears. Round eyes of excellent colour and adequate size. Short nose with wide cheeks. Good bite and firm chin. Small but compact body. Short, full tail. Well shown quite sound red coat of very nice texture.

TORTIE/CHOCOLATE TORTIE AND WHITE ADULT

BOB ONLY GR CH DAYZEE SUMTHINSPECIAL 12 1

This quality female was very nicely balanced with super head type. Cobby frame covered with high white nicely patched coat. Very well shown and very sweet to handle.

BLUE/LILAC TORTIE AND WHITE ADULT

1 CC BOB WILLIAMS ALINDAS FORWISTERRIA 12 2

I did debate about awarding this female the CC. She had a good top of head and smooth skull with well set quite neat ears. Round eyes of sound orange colouring. Short nose with wide cheeks. Scissor bite and firm chin. Cobby frame that was a little lightweight, I would suspect she had been calling. Her coat was clearly patched with cream and blue on her back, with white patches to her face, bib, legs and tummy. She would have benefitted from a bit more preparation but taking into account the changing coats at this time of year I eventually decided to give her the CC.

BLACK, RED, TORTIE ETC SHADED AND TIPPED CAMEO ADULT MALE – two young males with considerable quality

1 CC BOB MERCHANTS HONEYGEM SUNKISSED HERO 51d

Super broad top to head with neat, well set ears. Round eyes of super colour. Short nose with wide cheeks. Scissor bite and firm chin. Large yet cobby frame with short tail. In full coat that was very well groomed and was a super tone of red with almost white contrasting and very evenly distributed.

2 BAYLISS TAMOSAH GREAT EXPECTATIONS 51

Another very young male but not quite so well balanced facially as yet. Promising top of head with quite neat ears. I felt he was a little top heavy in his facial balance as yet with quite a strong brow. Round eyes with the colour still not completely set. Short nose and wide cheeks. Acceptable bite and chin, I would like a shade more strength around his jaw. Large frame with good boning and short tail. His coat was full and well shown, but in the process of changing which resulted in his contrasts not being as well defined and I did think that he was rather heavily shaded on his face.

BLACK, RED, TORTIE ETC SHADED AND TIPPED CAMEO ADULT FEMALE

1 CC WITHHELD MERCHANTS BARRKUDOS KISSEDBYABREEZE 51d

This young lady was really showing her coat to the best advantage both for colouoring and contrast. Sadly I considered that her face was not completely straight and she was also missing a canine tooth.

GOLDEN PERSIAN ADULT

I was very sorry but due to excessive amount of powder I had to disqualify the only exhibit in this class.

BROWN/BLUE TABBY INC BI COLOUR MAINE COON ADULT MALE

I was asked to judge this class at lunch time. I do hope exhibitors were not too disappointed at the substitute!

1 CC BOB BLADES DOTCOM LINCOLN 64 41W

Very mature looking young man with large upright ears, set apart but not at all low. Super furnishings. Pleasing length to width balance. High cheeks. Expressive eyes nicely set. Shallow concave curve to profile with super square muzzle and nice chin. Long body and tail with super weight and substantial long legs. Tail well furnished and in proportion to his body. Very nicely presented with very clear classic tabby patterning and with such a warm colour.

2 GREENS CH KEVERSTONE ROCKNROLLREBEL 64 20

I have given this chap a CC in the past and do admire him very much too. He also has very refined and stylish head type but today his coat colouring was slightly colder than Lincoln and was needing a little more finish to his preparation. His coat was definitely on the verge of moulting and as such I do appreciate it is not easy to keep them looking at their best.

BROWN/BLUE TABBY INC BI COLOUR MAINE COON ADULT FEMALE

1 CC HORTONS RUTTERKIN GANSTER’S MOLL 64 41W

Just 9 months old but looking the most mature of the young ladies on the day! Decent head type with large ears set nicely on her skull with nice furnishings. Large, expressive eyes that were slightly obliquely set and very expressive. I would not like to see any more curve to her profile but she did have a very nicely developed squareness to her muzzle and perpendicular line from nose tip to chin. Long body that was nicely developed for her age and long tail to match! Nice well boned long limbs with substantial rounded paws. Well shown with full ruff and breeches. Her coat patterning was classic and fairly well marked, just a little diffused along her spine. Handled well.

2 BUTLERS JINGLEBELLES LADYOF ATHENA 64 41w

Just one week older than the winner and fundamentally a pleasing girl. She just needs more time to develop further width to her face to balance it completely. Shallow concave curve to profile and I would prefer slightly more strength to her chin to make the squareness of muzzle more complete. Long frame and tail. Nice body weight. Rather diffused patterning to her coat that was nicely shown.

3 not named in catalogue

Although the oldest at 9 months 3 weeks this little lady was the least mature looking and again needing to develop the width of her head to balance her strong muzzle and chin. I also felt that on the day her eyes were rather too round – perhaps down to being a little nervous and overawed by it all. Pleasing body and tail with good weight and substance with solid limbs and large round paws. Well shown and just needing more time to pull it all together.

SILVER TABBY MAINE COON ADULT FEMALE

1 CC NICOLSON LYNXELOT MISTINGUET 64 41s

! year 10 months and slightly tetchy today! Very well developed and muscled lass. Pleasing head type with large, high set ears that were nicely furnished. Large, slightly obliquely set eyes that were very expressive. Shallow concave curve to profile and quite a firm chin. I would just have liked a little more squareness to her muzzle for perfection! Very well shown with slight diffusing to her patterning but very clear silver and well shown.

2 ROBERTS JERNAHAN JULIE MAY 64 41gs

Much younger lass of 11 months and slightly adolescent as yet but with much to commend her. Pleasing head type with decent width to her cheeks. Large, well set ears and nicely tufted. Expressive large eyes slightly obliquely set. Shallow concave curve to her nose. Nice muzzle developing. Very nice body and tail, short of coat that was nicely marked and clear silver. Overall just needing more time to develop further.

3 KILMARTINS NITERAP CATRAYA 64 41sw

Baby of the class at just 9 months and I really did like her very clear silver colouring and nice patterning. For me she was just a little fine in her head and yet, needing to develop more width to her cheeks and muzzle. Very lovely eyes that were large, expressive and well set. Shallow concave curve to profile. Just needs to develop further in her muzzle and cheeks. Very lovely to handle and so self assured.

BOB WAITES CH OLIROSE SILVER STORM 64 41sw

Looking very much the part with very pleasing head type and well shown.

AOC MAINE COON KITTEN MALE

1 BOB EDWARDS DARKTOWER INDIGO 64 16

I really liked this young boy he has such a stylish look and very nice personality. Super head type with large, upright ears well set and nicely tufted. Slightly obliquely set eyes that were large and bold. Shallow concave curve to profile and finishing with super square muzzle. Substantial frame for a 8 month old! Long body and tail with substantial boning. Long coat with full ruff and breeches. Nice texture and well shown.

2 CHADWICKS INDYS JULPITER BLUE 64 36a

Another really very nice boy who has super quality too, also having very pleasing head type but the deciding factor was his chin just needs a little more depth to balance. What a super class to judge.

AOC MAINE COON KITTEN FEMALE

1 KILMARTINS LIONMAINE LIMITED EDITION 64 41ew

I have judged this young lady before and her qualities are very promising indeed! She has a super expression and nicely balanced head type. Large, well set ears with lovely furnishings. Expressive large eyes slightly obliquely set. Shallow concave curve to profile and a very promising muzzle developing. Well put together proportioned frame with nice length to that and her tail. Super coat that was so well shown and displaying nice patterning and vibrancy in her tortie colours. Very confident and flashy young lady!

2 HARTE RUSKITA CHANDALINI ELPHIE 64 41ew

Another very pleasing young lady with nicely balanced head type developing. Large well set ears, Expressive eyes of good size and setting. Her nose just spoilt the overall balance as she had a nose bump in profile. Firm chin and nice muzzle developing. Long body and tail that was of lovely weight. Long nicely furnished tail. Very well shown with decent length ruff and breeches. Again very nicely coloured and tabby pattern.

3 ATKINSONS KATMEA FELICITY SHAGWELL 64 15

I thought this kitten would give the others a real run for their money and she does have the most delightful type and expression. I was mortified to find that she has an incorrect bite. I pray that it corrects itself as she matures further.

SELKIRK REX ADULT INTERMEDIATE MALE

1 BOB HAZELS WYREWOOD CONQUEROR 79S 15 1 year 7 months.

I just loved this males physique as well as his very handsome head and type! Lovely round, broad head with really full cheeks, slightly rounded forehead and curved top of head.. Short thick neck. Lovely eyes that were round and well opened. Short nose with slight downward slant. Loved his muzzle with well padded whisker pads and that desired rectangular impression. Very nicely curly and broken whiskers. Level bite with firm chin. Cobby body of rectangular shape and wonderful boning to his legs. Lovely muscled feel to him! I was very taken with his coat that was thick and dense and so well curled everywhere! Well shown and very self assured.

2 CREATONS & WALKERS CURLU NATE 79L 15 10 months

This was just a really hard decision and I loved this young man too and he is going to be equally as stunning with a few more months development under his belt!! Very pleasing head type again and with the most wonderful long coat that was carrying really lovely tousled and randomly curled. So sweet to handle as well.

SELKIRK REX ADULT INTERMEDIATE FEMALE

1 IC BEARD-SMITHS MEWSOS WALTZIN MATILDA 79L 15b 21/2 years

Smaller female with quite nice type. Her ears were perhaps a little small in size but nicely set within the contours of her round head. Nice size round eyes. Medium width muzzle with well padded whisker pads and good chin to balance. Cobby rectangular frame with nice limbs and paws. Medium length tail that was thick and round at the tip. Her coat was really dense and well curled. Well shown.

SELKIRK REX NEUTER INTERMEDIATE MALE

1 IC BUCKS CURLU OSCAR 79L 40/7

I really liked this young man, he does have really very nice rounded broad head with very pleasing forehead and curved top ofhead. Medium sized ears that were set nicely into the contours of his head. Expressive eyes that were round and large. Short, broad nose with slightly downward tilt. Super muzzle with well padded whisker pads. Lovely broken curly whiskers. Firm chin. Stocky cobby frame with medium length and nice limbs. Medium, rounded tail. His coat was a real picture, semi long with a wealth of random, tousled curls. So well shown and great to handle.

2 MINSHALLS TRUEBLU ROCKABILLY 79S 15d

Mature lad with nice rounded head and medium ears well set on his skull. Nice curve to the top of his head. For me his eyes although round were a little overshadowed by his brow making them look less bold. Very broad nose with slightly downward tilt. Broad cheeks. Padded whisker pads giving the desired rectangular impression. Curly and broken whiskers. Massive frame supported by substantial medium length legs. Medium length tail with rounded tip. Short coat that was well curled and of plush dense feeling.

SELKIRK REX NEUTER INTERMEDIATE FEMALE

1 IC GILLOTTS AMAZOLOU EDNA MODE 79S 36e

This lady was a little nervous to handle but was of pleasing head type. Medium ears nicely set on her rounded skull. Expressive eyes that were round and of nice size. Short, broad nose and nice rectangular muzzle. Her coat was very nicely curled, random with thick, plush texture and well shown.

2 GILLOTTS CURLU COCO 79L 21

I actually preferred this more mature female’s head and balance but sadly her owner had not managed to keep on top of her coat and it needed far more work to get her ready for the show bench. I look forward to her being back on the show bench later in the season with a super new season’s coat.

RADIUS MALE OR FEMALE

1 CH KEVERSTONE ROCKNROLL REBEL

2 GR CH FUSHOULU CARSOO 13c2

A very mature 9 year old male with very nice head type, strong, broad head with medium sized ears very well spaced apart on his skull. Almost round eyes that I would have preferred just a shade larger but a strong shade of blue. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Full round cheeks. Acceptable depth of chin. Lovely body weight with medium length tail balancing well. His gloves dipped slightly to the inner on his front legs. His hind sock covering the entire paw, with the gauntlets half way up his hocks, good width but just a little blunt in their finish. Pale grey points that were evenly coloured and minimal shading to his body colouring. Well shown.

3 PENBERIS EVENING STAR 13c5

AV BREEDERS MALE OR FEMALE

1 CALDWELL GR PR CALLOUI ENRICO 13c2

Impressive very mature 12 year 9 month exhibit. Very broad top of head with full rounded cheeks. Medium sized ears spaced well apart on his head. Expressive sound deep blue eyes that were a little deep set to really balance his head. Medium length nose with shallow dip. Chin balances his face. Long, large body and tail in proportion. Medium length legs with short, strong paws. His points colouring were nice tone of blue-grey and his body fur was long and silky in texture. His gloves and gauntlets were evenly matched.

2 ALLENS PR SPIRITDANCERS DARCEY 66 31

Pleasing exhibit with nice overall head and type with good width and well set medium sized ears slightly forward tilting. Expressive eyes of decent blue colouring. Correct profie with slight retrousse end to nose. I would just have liked him to be a little heavier in the body. Well shown and sweet to handle.

3 STABLES CH MERLIESIN ITSAKINDA MAGIC 63d

AV NOT BRED BY EXHIBITOR MALE OR FEMALE

1 GR PR KEVERSTONE CLEMENTINE

2 GRANTS MABALAKAT SILVER SURFER 64 41sw

This young man was really impressive. Shown in absolute top condition, he has a superb head type with super breadth and high cheek bones. Large, high set ears with extravagant ear furnishings. Very expressive green eyes, large and slightly obliquely set. Shallow concave curve to profile and a wonderful muzzle and chin His physique very well developed with substantial frame and long tail. Very well shown coat with clear classic tabby pattern and with just a minimal amount of tarnishing on his nose. Such a sweet boy to handle.

3 IMP GR CH & PR CANONNA MERLIESIN MELODY

AV SLH CAT/KITTEN/NEUTER BORN IN MAY

1 TAYLORS CH BRIZLINCOAT ARABIAN NITE 63a

What an amazingly friendly male. He was so pleased to come and show himself off. Very pleasing head and with that typical Somali look and elegance. His coat was of a really rich colour with super texture and ticking. Very nicely shown and a pleasure to judge.
