NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT CLUB SHOW REPORT 21 FEBRUARY 2009
JUDGES REPORT MS JANE E. ALLENSincere thanks to Anne, Brian and the Committee for their kind invitation to judge at this wonderful show. I was made so welcome and had a fantastic day among the Norwegians! Sincere thanks must go to John Tipper for volunteering at the eleventh hour to steward for me – thanks so much John for your great humour, company and very experienced handling of the exhibits. I really appreciated your help and hope that we can get together again later in the year!
AC TABBY 14 WEEKS TO 6 MONTHS KITTEN
1 WHITTLES VERDICATZ SHAKIRA 67 20 3.9.08This young lady was nicely balanced with a pleasing triangular head shape which at the moment was slightly longer than equilateral. Large ears well spaced on her head and with very nice tufts and following the lines of the head. Nicely shaped forehead. Almost straight profile and with quite a strong chin to give overall quite a good facial balance. Large well open eyes that were obliquely set. Nice length to her body and long, well boned limbs. Round tufted paws. Her tail was to her shoulders in length and nicely furnished. Her coat was very well developed showing a definite double coat with thick under coat covered by longer, harsh guard hairs. Very well shown and sweet to handle.
2 NORTONS NORSVANA SEHANINE AVVRADAL 67 18g 6.9.08 There was really very little to choose from between the first and second kitten. Very attractive younger lady. Her head shape was already equilateral in shape with quite large ears set high and open on her head. Forehead not quite so well developed as the winner. Almost straight profile and adequate chin to just about balance. Her eyes were large and slightly oriental in their setting. Her body was long and well filled, long well boned limbs with rounded, tufted paws. Adequate length tail that was nicely furnished. Well shown.
3 WHITTLES VERDICATZ CARA 67 20 3.9.08 This young lady, litter sister to the winner in this class was not as well balanced, having rather a longer triangular face and at present lacking the width to balance. Large ears set a little close together, as her head needs to broaden. Her eyes were a little too round in shape. Slight dip to profile and her chin still needs to develop further to give balance to her lower face. Promising body length but her tail was a little on the short side. Her coat was developing well with plenty of glossy, harsher guard hairs but the undercoat still to develop further. Nicely shown and may well need further time to develop facially.
AC TABBY 6 – 9 MONTHS KITTEN MALE
1 GRANTS NOYNAROCK AUGUSTUS 67 20 23.5.08 This young man was simply huge! So well grown for his age. Promising head shape with large ears, open and high set at the extremities of his triangular head. Expressive large and well opened eyes that were slightly obliquely set. Almost straight profile, with reasonable height of forehead. Quite a good strength of chin that made for quite a harmonious head type. Long body and tail with such a well filled body. Long, well boned limbs, the hind legs slightly longer than the front. Super round paw with furry tufts. Long coat that was very thick in undercoat and demonstrating some coarse top coat. A little more show preparation would have just finished him off to perfection.
AC TABBY 6 – 9 MONTHS KITTEN FEMALE
1 BOB GRANTS NOYNAROCK SIGNYSVALRDATTER 67 20 23.5.08 Litter sister to Augustus and won the Best of Breed as I felt she just had the edge for refinement of type, quality of coat and that certain elegance overall! Very nice triangular head shape with the length just a little longer than equilateral at present. Long straight profile with nice rise at forehead and firm chin. Large oval eyes that were nicely opened and expressive. Large well set ears with great width at the base and following the lines of her head. Long body and super length of tail, however I do hope that she continues to grow a little more in her development! Nicely boned legs with round, tufted paws. Her hind legs just a little longer than the fore limbs. Super coat that was in excellent condition, woolly undercoat with super glossy, harsh top coat in evidence. Her tail was nice and bushy and to her shoulders. Very well shown female with that real elegance and attitude. BOB was a close thing but went to the female on overall elegance and balance.
2 ELMS NOYNAROCK BIBIKA 67 18e 31.7.08 Confident young lady with an equilateral head shape already with good width to top and well set quite large ears. Expressive eyes that would have benefitted from being a little more oriental in set. Quite a strong chin and almost straight profile. Long body with long limbs, and tufted paws. Her tail was just about long enough but very well furnished. Her coat texture was developing nicely with some evidence of the desired double coat. Nicely shown with very attractive coat patterning and colouring.
3 HANDYS NOYNAROCK MYSTIC MEG 67 18e 31.7.08 Litter sister to Bibika and in many ways very similar in appearance, my deciding factors in the placing came down to her eye size and shape being slightly more round in shape and needing to fill out a little further in the width of her head, at present being a little fine in her head shape as yet. However again very nicely shown and such an attractive colouring.
AC NORWEGIAN FOREST ADULT - A
1 HANDYS NORSKMAGI RAGNOR 67 31s 2.3.07 Pleasing male with triangular head shape, quite large ears set high and with open set following the lines of his head. Long almost straight profile with nice chin to balance his head. Expressive eyes of good size and set. Long body with well boned limbs. Round tufted paws. Hind legs slightly longer than front. Super long tail just spoilt by the tarnishing! Double coat with thick undercoat and nice glossy slightly harsher guard hairs. I just loved his cute white snip to his face and the super smoke contrasts. Well shown and I hope that the rusty tone on his tail goes as his new coat develops further.
2 GRANTS NOYNAROCK ATHENE 67 18 9.8.06 Mature female with a triangular head shape. Her ears were a little low on her skull but that may well have been due to the fact she was not overly enthralled at being handled at that time! Slight bump to her profile with a fairly strong chin. Expressive eyes that were well opened and set obliquely. Nice length of body with firm limbs and long tail. Double coat that was well shown.
3 JEACOCKS WEESAMS PANDORA 67 31 6.3.08 Youngest in the class but promising features. Triangular head with large ears set high and open following the head lines from her nose. Large expressive eyes that were quite well set and well opened. Straight profile but her chin need to be stronger to balance. Long frame that was nicely filled and with long, well boned limbs. Round paws with nice tufts. Long tail that was nicely furnished. Very nice double coat with thick undercoat covered by a smoother overcoat of glossy, harsher guard hairs.
AC NORWEGIAN FOREST ADULT – B
1 HUGHES NORMAGIKATT KNASIR THEA 67 16 8.4.08 Pleasing young female with triangular head shape nicely balanced. Well set quite large ears following the lines of her head. Straight profile with an adequate chin strength. For me her eyes were a little small and not as well opened as I would have liked. Long, proportionate frame with long limbs demonstrating the typical NFC stance. Super, long bushy tail. Very well shown coat that had wonderful density, thick undercoat with glossy, harsher guard hairs covering her back, sides and tail.
2 HEALINGS GR CH JARRAHKATT AZZARA 67 31t 4.9.01 Mature female with a nice triangular head, and adequately sized ears set at the outer edges and following the lines of her head. Straight profile with reasonable strength to her chin. Lovely large sized eyes that were oval and obliquely set and taking everything in! Long frame her tail just reaching to the shoulders. Good boning to her legs and tufted paws. Double coat evident with thick under coat covered by longer, glossy coarser guard hairs. Well shown.
3 SKULSKIS SHANLIVLE PARIS 67 31ets 23.4.08A little bit immature but a promising young lady! Nicely shaped triangular head with large ears set high and open and following the lines of her head. Almost straight profile and a nice line from forehead to nose. Super strength to her chin giving her face good balance. Expressive eyes that were large, well opened and obliquely set. Long elegant body and tail reaching to her shoulders. Although she was moulting there was evidence of the double coat with some thickness of her undercoat overlaid by a glossy, harsher top coat. Well shown.
AC LIMIT ADULT
1 DOUGLAS FENRISULVEN GENEVIEVE 67 20a 26.3.07Pleasing female with trianangular head shape, long straight profile and adequate chin to balance. Expressive eyes large, and nicely set. Large ears set high and open on her skull following the lines of her head. Long body, elegant lines with well boned limbs, round paws that were nicely tufted. Long, bushy tail. Her coat was really very nice with super thick woolly undercoat and glossy slightly harsh top coat. Very well shown.
2 TUCKERS JHARDFAE NORDICNITE QUEEN 67 31ts 14.4.08Very attractive young female with an equilateral triangle shaped head. Large ears, set nicely and with good width at base, following the line of the triangle from her jaw. Almost straight profile with good line from nose to forehead. Large, expressive oval eyes that were very expressive and well opened. Her chin to have been a little stronger to give full balance to her face but as she still quite young hopefully this develop a little more with maturity. Her body shape was long and quite muscular with super long tail that stretched to her shoulders. Her coat was developing nicely with good thick undercoat and the more glossy coarse top coat developing over her shoulders, back and tail. Very well shown.
2 HALLS BAGGINS FIELDS OF GOLD 67 20 20.1.08This female was a little older but still very much a baby in looks. Triangular head shape with rather small ears placed well apart on her skull. Her head shape was rather longer at present with an almost straight profile and nice lines to her forehead. Her nose was rather broad detracting a little from the elegance of her overall expression. Oval eyes that could have been just a shade or two larger. Adequate chin to balance her facially. Long body and tail with long limbs and quite a substantial feel to her. Her coat was nice and thick, the top coat still to develop thus giving a slightly soft feel to her coat at the present time. Very nicely presented and again very nice to handle.
AC DEBUTANTE KITTEN – A
1 PINCHS CHALCEDON SILVER SPARKLE 67 31ets 29.7.08Very stylish kitten, slightly long triangular head shape as yet with large ears well placed, high on his skull and following the outer line of his head. Expressive eyes that were large and nicely set. Virtualy straight profile with chin developing well. Nicely build frame with long body and well developing limbs. Super long tail that was bushy and reaching to the back of his neck. Coat developing with evidence of thick undercoat and some glossy harsher guard hairs on shoulders and back and tail. Nicely shown.
2 HUGHES NORMAGIKATT SPARKLING STAR 67 31 3.8.08Very well grown young lady with slightly long triangular head shape at present. Nicely set large ears. Virtually straight profile with a firm chin to balance. Eyes well set, for me could have been a little larger in size. Long frame with nicely boned limbs. Long, bush tail. Very well shown coat that was showing a promising double coat, the glossy harsher guard hairs evident on her shoulders and some down her back and tail.
3 RUBERY RAFFKIN PHOENIX FLAME 67 31dt 6.9.08Baby of the class! Pleasing triangular head development with promising size ears nicely set on her head and following the lines of her head. Obliquely set, large eyes that she used well! Almost straight profile with quite a nice strength of chin developing. Nice length of body and tail. Rather a baby coat texture as yet but with some evidence of coarser guard hairs coming on her shoulders. Well shown and confident baby.
