- Q. What is Your Name?
- A. Naomi Johnson
- Q. How Long have you been a GCCF Judge?
- A. 6 Years
- Q. What Sections are you a full judge in?
- A. Asian
- Q. Are you a probationer judge in any sections and if so which sections?
- A. Burmese, Ocicat, Singapura & Devon Rex
- Q. What made you interested in becoming a judge?
- A. I was interested in learning more about my chosen breeds, and was fascinated by the “art” of deciding which cats were winners.
- Q. Do you breed cats as well and if so which breed?
- A. I’m what you might call a “small” breeder, with 5 or 6 queens and 3 studs, averaging 3 or 4 litters per year in total. Breeding is strictly a hobby to me.
- Q. How many cats do you have at home?
- A. It varies a little depending on kittens, but usually around 15 (this includes 5 much loved neuters aged between 5 and 13!)My absolute strict rule is no more than 20 cats and I’ve never had more than 17 so far, having been breeding for over 17 years. Luckily I don’t go out to work so I have time to spend with all of my cats every day.
- Q. If you could give one tip to aspiring / new judges or stewards, what would it be ?
- A. Take the time to learn a little about all the breeds before taking the plunge into the one of your particular interest. Always listen to the advice of experienced judges and never stop learning. Sorry – that’s two tips!
- Q. What are your favourite Hobbies outside of Cat Showing?
- A. With all my activities within the cat fancy in addition to judging, I don’t seem to have much time left, but I enjoy designing websites – I’ve done a few online courses to learn coding etc.
- Q. Which Cat Show Venue does the Best Lunch?
- A. Hmmm – it used to be the Doncaster Racecourse (venue for the Yorkshire show for many years) – but the Lincoln lunches are also very good.
- Q. Best cat show moment?
- A. Winning BIS Foreign with a Burmilla boy of my breeding at the National when it was held at Earls Court (1998 I think)
- Q. Worst cat show moment?
- A. I suppose we’ve all had those days when our cats have been placed 2nd out of 1 in the Open…….I’ve had several!
- Q. Funniest Cat Show Moment?
- A. I obviously take it all too seriously because I can’t think of a memorable funny moment!
- Q. Scariest Cat Show Moment?
- A. Almost getting bitten by a Cornish Rex a few years ago while stewarding.
- Q. Best Part of the Cat Show Day?
- A. 10.00am when the hall is cleared and it’s all peace and quiet apart from miaowing!
- Q. Favourite Cat Show Venue?
- A. It has to be the Lincolnshire Showground, not that I’m biased of course.
- Q. Favourite Cat Breed?
- A.I really couldn’t pick just one – of course all my breeds are wonderful, but there are several others I’d love to own, such as Maine Coon, all the Rex breeds, Sphynx, and Turkish Angora.
- Q. Winter or Summer Cat Shows?
- A. Summer – I hate driving in the dark!
- Q. Any other animals/pets ?
- A. None at present – I’ve always wanted tropical fish – maybe one day…….I had a rabbit and a Dachshund as a child.
- Q. What part of the judging do you enjoy most?
- A. Meeting a really outstanding cat who is a perfect example of the Standard and also has a wonderful temperament!
- Q. Can you Recall ever loving a cat or Kitten at a show so much you wanted to put it in your pocket and take it home?
- A. I’ve met quite a few Devons who’d fit into that category, and more recently a wonderful Selkirk Rex, Curlu Gretel (lilac) bred and owned by Pamela Anderson.
