1. What is Your Name? Veronica (Ronnie) Brooks

2. How Long have you been a GCCF Judge? 29 Years

3. What Sections are you a full judge in? British, Burmese, Ocicat, Bengal,Tonkinese, Singapura, Asian, Selkirk Rex, La Perm, Snowshoe.

4. Are you a probationer judge in any sections and if so which ones? No

5. What made you interested in becoming a judge? So long ago I cant remember!

6. Do you breed cats as well and if so which breed(s)? Yes – British Black, British Blue and occasional British LH variants

7. Do you show your cat(s)? Yes (In Ireland which is where I live now)

8. If you could give one tip to aspiring / new judges or stewards, what would it be ?Find an outstanding example of the breed; keep that picture I your head and use that as your template to judge to. Be consistent – exhibitors will accept any particular likes and dislikes as long as you are always the same

9. Do you have a ‘Day Job’ and if so, what is it?? Now retired; was a District Nurse

10. What are your favourite Hobbies outside of Cat Showing? Chairman of the local Ladies Club, so involved in local activites; started baking and really enjoy that (my carrot cake has won prizes!); read Science Fiction; like to keep in shape since retiring but no clubs etc here so have a large collection of home exercise videos which I use daily.

11. Which Cat Show Venue does the Best Lunch?  Wouldn’t like to say now – it used to be Suffolk & Norfolk when Grace Denny did the most gorgeous desserts; we used to fight to steward at that Show!

12. Best cat show moment? Winning Overall Best in Show at SABCCI 2008 – took over as Show Manager after that so unrepeatable.

13. Worst cat show moment? Realising I’d brought the wrong cat to the Show – and there were no other entries in the class!

14. Funniest Cat Show Moment? The sight of a tiny siamese kitten, bum in the air, trying to dive down the cleavage of a very well endowed continental judge!

15. Scariest Cat Show Moment? As an exhibitor – the dreaded Vetting In, even after all these years I still panic

16. Best Part of the Cat Show Day? Going into the Hall just as it is cleared – it always amazes me how quiet it always is

17. Favourite Cat Show Venue? Woking; its like home to me and when I come over to judge it is close enough for me to stay with my elderly mum

18. Favourite Cat Breed? If it wasn’t a British I’d go for a Tonkinese – they are good big healthy cats with the most fantastic temperament

19. Winter or Summer Cat Shows? Winter – most of the breeds are in their best coat – especially the Brits!

20. Any other animals/pets ? Not now but until recently 2 Bernese Mountain dogs.

21. What part of judging do you enjoy the most? Catching up on all the gossip –the only thing I’ve missed since I moved over here.

22. Can you Recall ever loving a cat or Kitten at a show so much you wanted to put it in your pocket and take it home? If so who and at which show? Oh yes – Thickthorn Lotus Blossom drop dead gorgeous Ocicat (kitten, at the time) at Kensington 2007, talk about personality plus!
