Maidstone & Medway Cat Club 20.12.08
Mrs Val Anderson
Thanks to Anne & Brian and Shelagh & Kit and their team for the invite. A lovely festive atmosphere to this show as always and the sherry & mince pie went down a treat! Many thanks to Dave Gooding for stewarding and being good company & treating the cats with care. I look forward to our next engagement together.
OPEN CLASSES
RUSSIAN BLUE ADULT, MALE
1ST CC & BOB BANDY’S CH SITHEE GENERAL GORDON (16a) M 12.04.07
A young boy of 1½ years with a lovely playful temperament. Lovely Russian expression especially as he was puffing out his whisker pads. Flat skull & short wedge with a good angle & profile. Level bite but his chin could be a little stronger. Large tall ears set vertically to his head & almond-shaped eyes of a deep green colour. Elegant & muscular body with limbs to balance & small oval paws. Tapering, moderately long tail. Very dense coat, short & soft & fine and you can sink your fingers into it. Medium blue colour with lots of silvery sheen though it is a little uneven and pales a little at the roots. Shown in lovely condition. He later became Best Foreign Exhibit, congratulations to his owner and breeder!
2ND WHITE’S KASHYK PALYAKOV TOVARISCH (16a) M 18.11.06
A large mature fellow of 2 years with a gentle but slightly reserved nature. Broad masculine head with a short wedge & flat skull. Good angle & slight curve to the profile. Level bite but his chin rounds off a touch. Prominent whisker pads. Large tall ears with a broad base but set a fraction too wide & he tends to hold them forward in profile. Large green eyes of basically an almond shape but he tended to round them when out of his pen, better when he relaxed. Elegant muscular body with long limbs & small oval paws. Long tail that is rather thick at the base and showing noticeable rings. Dense double coat but it is a touch long & could be softer to the touch. Even blue colour though it pales at the roots & I would prefer more silvery sheen.
RUSSIAN BLUE ADULT, FEMALE
1ST CC NOBLE’S CH TROIKA NIJINSKA (16a) F 15.11.06
A sweet girl of 2 years though she complained about having to come out of the pen again as she had just been handled by another judge. Expressive head with a flat skull, short wedge and prominent whisker pads. Good angle & profile, level bite and firm chin. Large well-set ears with a broad base & pointed tips. Eyes of almond shape & a good green colour but ideally they could be larger and they are set a touch deep. Elegant & muscular body with long limbs, small oval paws and long tapering tail to balance. Dense double coat with a fine texture and soft to the touch. Medium blue with a silvery sheen, a little uneven but with good colour to the roots.
2ND RAVENSCROFT’S GOLUBOI ELANEC (16a) F 08.04.02
An elegant mature girl of 6 years with a very gentle nature but she has a rather sad expression. Her head could be a little broader overall but with a flat skull and shortish wedge. Prominent whisker pads but her muzzle is a little square. Good chin and level bite. Tall, reasonably large ears set vertically to the head. Almond-shaped green eyes with good depth of colour. Long elegant body with long limbs and oval paws. Long tapering tail showing a few faint rings. Double coat but it could be denser & is verging on being tipped on the body with a darker spine line too. Good silvery sheen to the limbs & paws.
SORREL ABYSSINIAN ADULT
BOB CUMMINS’S CH LEGEND ETERNAL FLAME (23a) F 04.10.05
An elegant & muscular girl of 3 years who was rather spitty but OK to handle. Head a moderate wedge with a slight whisker indentation. Cupped ears set wide apart & large expressive eyes of rounded almond shape. Muscular body of medium build & size with limbs to balance and tapering tail. Dense coat with a fine texture that lies close to the body. Clearly ticked with chocolate on an apricot base. Pale fur around the eyes and OK facial markings. Darker spine line and chocolate tail tip but short hocks and triple necklets on the chest though they are well-broken
BROWN MARBLED BENGAL ADULT
Difficult to choose between with these two girls.
1ST CC & BOB GRANT’S ADVISH MARBLEMAGIC (76 20) F 22.05.06
A well-grown girl of 2 years with a gentle nature though she was keen to return to her pen. Head a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with a large nose & broad muzzle. Shallow concave curve to the profile, shallow chin but level bite. Pronounced whisker pads. Well-set ears but they are a little large though with a broad base and rounded tips. Large greeny-coloured eyes of oval shape set on a slant. Long muscular body with limbs to balance of medium length. Tail of medium length with good thickness at the base but tapering. Coat soft & dense but a fraction long. Marbled pattern of black & brown markings on a pale golden base though richer colour to the underparts and the pattern could show more horizontal flow. Good head markings, bars & spots on the limbs, spotted tummy and ringed tail with a dark tip.
2ND NEWPORT’S TYPHAST RAZIMATAZZI (76 20) F 24.04.06
A 2 year old girl who was easy to handle. Head a medium wedge with rounded contours. Large nose but the muzzle could be broader. Rather a deep curve to the profile, level bite but shallow chin that falls away a little. Large slightly puffed nose leather. Medium ears with a broad base & rounded tips set wide apart and held forward in profile. Large green eyes of oval shape. Long muscular body with limbs to balance. Good tail of medium length and even thickness. Soft dense coat with a marbled pattern of black & brown markings on a golden base and good horizontal flow. Lovely head markings especially the pencilling on the cheeks and bold chin strap. Spotted tummy, good leg markings and dark tip to the tail.
RUSSIAN BLUE NEUTER, MALE
1ST PC NOBLE’S GR PR LARKSONG LUKOSHA (16a) MN 10.02.04
An elegant boy of 4 years who could do with a little more weight, he is a little bony down his spine at present. His head is a little long overall but with a flat skull and good angle in profile. Level bite but his nose goes over his chin a little and he has a nose bump. Large ears with a broad base and set vertically to the head. Large expressive eyes of almond shape and a pale but clear green in colour. Long elegant body with long limbs & oval paws, long tapering tail. Coat probably not at its best, a touch long and with a darker spine line but good silvery sheen. His expression improved when he relaxed, I have seen this boy looking better in the past and was surprised to find out who he was, just good enough for a certificate.
2ND RAVENSCROFT’S GOLUBOI OVECHSKI (16a) MN 02.12.06
An elegant boy of 2 years with a gentle nature. His head is a little out of balance though he had a better expression when he relaxed. Flat skull, short wedge & good angle and profile & quite prominent whisker pads. Level bite and acceptable chin. Large ears set vertically to his head when he bothered to put them up! Large eyes of almond shape & set wide apart but of a muddy colour rather than the desired vivid green. Elegant & muscular body with long limbs & tail to balance. Plushy double coat but it could be softer and as a little dark overall; I would prefer to see more silvery sheen. He also has a small patch of white hairs on his left shoulder
BOB ROBERTS’S GR PR MOYTOVARISCH STRAVINSKI (16a) MN 09.02.01
An elegant mature boy of 7 years with a lovely Russian expression. Large tall ears, large almond-shaped eyes of a lovely vivid green colour and prominent whisker pads. Long elegant body with limbs & tail to balance. Plushy double coat of medium blue with a silvery sheen. Shown in lovely condition and an easy choice for the Best of Breed award.
ALSO CONSIDERED FOR BOB:
HENDRA’S PR CZARKUSHKA BOSATAMAHON (16a) MN 31.10.00
A very large boy of 8 years with a masculine head. A big softie who loves his cuddles, in fact it was very difficult to extract him from my shoulder! We had several cats that reluctantly came out of their pens but he was the only one who was reluctant to go back in and for that reason I awarded him my Judge’s Choice Rosette.
RUSSIAN BLUE NEUTER, FEMALE
1ST PC BANDY’S GR CH & PR TROIKA MARIA MOREVNA (16a) FN 08.06.00
A mature girl of 8 years with a sweet gentle nature. Head a little rounded but with a flat skull & short wedge, prominent whisker pads. OK chin and level bite but rather a dip to the profile plus a nose bump. Well-set ears but they could be a little larger. Large almond-shaped eyes set wide apart, pale green in colour but then they may have faded with age. Long, well-fed body with elegant limbs & long tapering tail. Double coat, soft & plushy and very dense but rather uneven in colour at present with some scattered white hairs between the shoulder blades. Her coat was probably not at its best but some good points too and just enough to gain the certificate.
