Margaret Baker
Sincere thanks to Helen and her assistants for this delightful Eastertide show. Thanks also to my steward David Denny for his able assistance, and continued success to his superb British boys.
GRAND CHAMPION ORIENTAL MALE -
GrCC, TARBOX'S CH TIJANMEEK NAVHRA, 37d, 1yr.7mths. Very typy Oriental with a good wedge, beautiful straight profile and deep chin. Complete dentition and fairly good bite. Ears of good shape and flare, not overstated in size. Oriental eyes with good depth of green and soulful expression, gaze a little off-centre but this was due to tension. Firm strong body, elegant legs and tail of good length and shape. Coat short and close, rich red to the roots but being an intense colour showed rather strong patterning. Unfortunately he was nervous and became a bit upset, but I had seen enough of his quality to award him the Grand.
GRAND CHAMPION ORIENTAL FEMALE -
GrCC, SMITH'S GR CH MYLYNN MISHKA, 62 43s, 2yrs.10mths. Graceful shaded silver Longhair. Medium even wedge, good profile, shallow but even chin. Bite slightly overlapped at the tips. Ears of lovely size and flared shape, rather low set on forehead, enough width between. Expressive green eyes of typical shape. Long neck, firm but rather heavy body, long strong legs. Coat medium in length and consistent, sat nice and close, had well furnished ears and a lovely full tail plume. Silver is so attractive and hers was very pure colour, shaded halfway to the roots.
ORIENTAL RED ADULT -
1, CC & BOB, TARBOX'S CH TIJANMEEK NAVHRA
ORIENTAL TORTIE ADULT -
1, CC & BOB, WALTER'S NUTROSTAR APRILMOON, F, 37e, 11mths. 1wk. Willowy and graceful. Long fine wedge with a suggestion of a pinch, lovely profile, shallow chin, bite nearly perfect. Oriental eyes of pleasing green, large well set ears. Long neck, firm slim body, long fine legs, elegant feet, long whippy tail. Sleek close coat showing a good mix of black and bright reds, sound to roots, everything in balance. Talkative and amiable young lady, my favourite Oriental of the day.
ORIENTAL SHADED ADULT -
CC & BOB w/h. 1, BROWN'S CHOCTAW ERAGON, M, 43s, 1yr.3mths. Sturdy boy with a confident personality. Wedge of medium length with good profile. Chin fair, bite undeniably overshot. Ears well shaped and set, could do with wider spacing. Oriental eyes of good green, tended to turn inwards although he was quite relaxed. Strong firm body, limbs and long tail to balance. Beautiful fine textured dark silver coat, albeit rather deeply shaded in places, unfortunately there was widespread tarnishing round the cheeks, down the chest and inside legs. I had to withhold on these minus points. Very sweet natured.
ORIENTAL CREAM OR APRICOT NEUTER -
BOB to SMITH'S GR PR MOUSTACHES FENTON FAUVE, MN, 37fn,
9yrs.9mths. Charming fellow, a real cuddlebug, carrying his years very easily. Even wedge, profile had a gentle downward curve, chin a bit narrow. Congratulations on preserving a complete and level bite. Low set ears, wide based but could do with being a touch larger. Rounded top of head forming a beautiful line flowing down back of neck to shoulders. Glorious eyes of a mellow green, full of intelligent expression. Long substantial body, strong elegant legs, long tail. Close apricot coat with metallic overtone on head.
ORIENTAL FAWN NEUTER -
1, PC & BOB, WRIGHT & DURRANT'S MEWZISHUN FAWN KARAJAN, MN, 9mths.3wks. Very attractive youngster though rather a dark shade of fawn. Medium length wedge, whiskers puffed, once they were smoothed back the lines were even enough. Very good straight profile, good depth of chin, bite just a bit untidy. Lovely flared wide based ears. Eyes a good definite green, widely spaced. Long neck and body, rather overweight considering his slenderness. Fine legs and feet, tail in balance. Super coat, tight and close like a silk glove, sound and evenly coloured. As befits the prefix, he was obviously named after the famous conductor.
ORIENTAL CARAMEL NEUTER -
1, IC & BOB, SMITH'S MOUSTACHES CARAMEL TWIST, MN, 5yrs.7mths. Large, sturdily built middle-aged fellow. Long wedge with serious face. Ears nicely set and flared. Gentle curve over profile, chin rather fine, level bite. Lovely oriental eyes of lime green. Large well fed body, long legs, long shapely feet. Tail tapered but needs more length. Shining close coat of evenly coloured blue caramel, acceptable for soundness. A heavy armful!
SIAMESE SEAL POINT ADULT -
1,CC & BOB, RIDGEWAY'S HARTZIE GALAXYOFSTARS, F, 11mths.2wks. Attractively feminine though rather slight and small. Medium length wedge with a very good profile and even chin, bite a little untidy. Large wide based ears held low. Wide open eyes of beautiful sapphire. Long elegant neck, firm almost tubular body, long fine legs, tail only just long enough to balance. Lovely deep seal brown points showing excellent contrast to the body, lightly shaded in warm beige. Close coat of good texture. Relentlessly affectionate and obviously warming up to a call.
SIAMESE CHOCOLATE POINT ADULT -
CC & BOB w/h. 1, DAMPIER'S KYMSING LUNA AMARA, F, 10mths 3wks. Wedge medium in length with somewhat squared off muzzle. Very nice even profile and quite a good chin, but bite overshot and untidy. Eyes full in shape and a bit pale in colour. Ears well set, large at base. Strong muscular body, fine legs, tail balanced length. Excellent conditioned coat contrasting with flawless ivory body, such beautiful colouring but as often happens with Chocolates, points were not matching, with small spectacles under the eyes and pale legs. Difficult to examine as she became a bit obstreperous, but overall in my opinion she was not quite Championship material.
SIAMESE CREAM POINT ADULT -
1, CC & BOB, BOWLES-GOWDY'S MYLYNN MAQUIRE, M, 9mths.3wks. Splendid boy, large and well formed for his youth. Nicely balanced wedge with smooth lines. Slight curve over brow in profile, chin outline deep enough but narrowing at the tip, bite fairly even. Well placed generous ears, eyes quite widely spaced, medium blue with dilated pupils on this occasion. Long neck and body which was slightly overweight, long slender legs and oval paws, tapering tail to balance. Coat slightly long in texture but close lying, soft to the touch and pointed in delicate cream. A sweet cat, purring throughout. My nomination for Best Siamese Adult.
SIAMESE CARAMEL POINT ADULT -
1, CC & BOB, SIMPSON'S SHERMESE MERCEDES, F, 1yr. Another sweetie, very elegant. Even wedge of balanced proportions. Good profile, chin a little recessed but bite was spot on. Very good top of head and well spread large ears. Oriental eyes of medium strong blue. Long neck on a long firm body, long fine legs and excellent length of whip tail. Close fine textured coat, a wee bit long, on lightly shaded body with a small pale patch on the lower back (but no matter I'm sure!) I accepted her as caramel although she did appear to me more of a steely blue.
2, ELLAMS' MEESONA LUVINAMYST, F, 11mths.3wks. Fine tapered wedge presenting a lovely shape front face, wide top with spaced out flared ears. Good eye shape, medium blue with a keen expression. Excellent profile and firm deep chin, rather surprisingly bite was noticeably undershot. Long neck, long well nourished body. Fine legs and feet, tail tapered but needing a bit more length. Mask not fully coloured yet, other points well filled and contrasting pleasingly with her pale body. Coat had excellent texture and condition. A bit crotchety and full of harmless grumbles.
SIAMESE LILAC POINT NEUTER -
1, PC & BOB, FREEMAN'S CH KRISTIKATS SERAPHINA, FN, 2yrs.4mths. Good looking lass, medium wedge and large wide based ears which could be better spaced, backs of the ears showed a lovely pinky hue. Profile a little uneven over nose, deep firm chin. She hated the bite being examined, the fleeting glimpse I was allowed looked all right. Oriental eyes of brilliant blue. Long strong body with well filled sides, fine legs, long whip tail. Fine close coat of beautiful quality with soft lilac points. She settled into a most delightful purry girl after we'd finished with the business of the bite!
SIAMESE TABBY POINT NEUTER -
1 & PC, ESTERFORD-HOWARD'S CH & PR MAPU MALACHITE, MN, 32 8, 1yr.9mths. Lovely wedge with even lines and large wide spaced ears describing a perfect triangle. Slight bump over the brow in profile, chin well aligned. Middle incisors missing, rest of bite a little inconsistent. Eyes of beautiful shape and brilliant blue, with a Siamese expression to melt the hardest heart. Excellent length of hard muscular body and tapered tail, long strong legs. Colour appeared to me fawn caramel, resulting in rather delicate markings but the pattern was present on all points, with plentiful tail rings. Pleasant natured and calm to handle.
2, JAKEMAN'S SHERMESE THELONIOUS, MN, 32 2, 10mths.3wks. Lovely boy with a perfectly tapered wedge, bump over brow, fine chin, fairly regular bite. Excellent wide spaced ears, large but beautifully shaped eyes of deep intense colour. Long body with well nourished sides. Fully marked blue tabby face, leg bars turning fawn, long well ringed blue tail. Fine close coat in excellent condition.
BOB to TOBIAS'S GR PR SHERMESE FUNANDGAMES, MN, 32 1, 2yrs.7mths. Nobility personified, and he knew it! He had the strongest claim in spite of a receding chin, the bite being unaffected. Excellent poise and overall beauty. Lovely wedge achieving that perfect triangle. Haughty profile, large wide based ears with clear thumbmarks and good width between. Expressive bright blue eyes with single eye ribbons. Long neck, rather heavy body, but a lot of the neuters were looking well fed. Long legs with plenty bars and oval feet with dark heels. Close lying coat soft to the touch, long ringed tail a bit brindled towards the root. The perfect gentleman to handle, he had to be my favourite Siamese of the day.
SIAMESE RED POINT NEUTER -
CNH, BOND'S JOHPAS RED BREEZER, MN, 3yrs.6mths. Handsome boy of good type who was simply too upset to be handled, and readily demonstrated his objections. I was so sorry to deny him the opportunity of winning a PC but in the circumstances I was unable to assess him properly. I understand that the vetting-in time overran and he had to be penned very hurriedly. As will appear from other reports he did settle enough later on to allow himself to be judged in other classes. My regrets to his family, apparently he is an angel at home!
I was advised during the afternoon that it is not strictly necessary to give critiques on miscellaneous classes, however I'm sure exhibitors would like some comments so I offer here the notes I made.
AC Oriental Senior Adult -
1, SMITH'S GR CH MYLYNN MISHKA, previously judged in the Grand class.
AOC Oriental Adult -
1, HAGGAR'S GR CH SUSPIRIA SIMPLY SOLARUS, M, 37r, 1yr.11mths. Strong fawn boy, a bit jowly, strong noble head with good profile, firm chin and level bite. Very good green eyes full of sweet expression. Long firm solid body, long fine tail. Colour a sound warm pale fawn. Gorgeous temperament, didn't want to stop cuddling, had to be unhitched from my neck.
2, TITTERSALL'S MAMAMIA MISS DIOR, F. 48e, 1yr.5mths. Very attractive bicolour, I should say tricolour as she was brightly marked in clear cut black red and white. Excellent profile and graceful head, very good eye shape and colour. White reached a peak on forehead, black spots on muzzle. Firm balanced body with bold red and black patching, fine tail. Unfortunately very cross!
3, SMITH'S FIROUSI FORYOUREYESONLY, M, 48 40d, 1yr.11mths. Red bicolour with almost the minimum amount of white. Rich red mantle and head markings, coat felt a little coarse.
AC Oriental Breeders Kitten -
1, WHISTON'S MIYOKO CHIQUITITA, F, 48 43s, 4mths.3wks. Extremely attractive and well grown. Super profile and chin line, bite a bit irregular. Lovely spread of wing-like ears with deep cups and wide base. Oriental eyes of quite a deep green which hopefully will brighten in tone. Firm muscular young body, long fine ringed tail. Nicely patched and spotted face, shaded silver mantle. An exquisite little person, very talkative.
2, PARTRIDGE'S NUTROSTAR DIAMOND BLACK, F, 37, 8mths.1wk. Very clingy and tense. Excellent profile and depth of chin, even bite. Lime green eyes round with tension. Ears well placed and not overstated. Long firm body, long legs and tail to balance. Strong little feet clinging on to everything in sight. Shining black coat paling slightly at the roots but toning, lovely texture, it was about her best feature. Small for her age.
3, SPENDLOVE'S EASTPOINT MILLIELINDIT, F, 29, 3mths.1wk. A tiny tot, and I feel she will be a small adult. Dip on profile, little kitten pinch. Large ears which she held resolutely upright. Green eyes with good depth of colour, rounded in shape. Lithe fine little body, fine legs, long whip tail like a shoestring. Rather dark Havana brown coat of silky texture and sound, but at the moment showing ghost striping on limbs and flanks, hope it will clear.
AC Oriental Kitten Not Bred by Exhibitor -
1, ABBOTT'S TILDEN WHISPERINGCHENAZZ, F, 35, 6mths.3wks. Very pretty and dainty, but I hope she grows on. Even rather narrow wedge. Beautiful profile, firm chin, bite a little confused but basically meeting all right. Ears of good size and shape. Eyes oriental shape, haws showing, she was a bit apprehensive. Fine body and legs well covered with a fine soft white coat, sweet little oval feet. Very good whippy tail to end with.
Foreign White/ Oriental Black/ Blue Neuter -
1, CLAYDEN'S GR PR SPELLCASTER BLACK BESS, FN, 37, 5yrs 1mth. Imposing girl of good size, dip on profile, eyes rather pale green, gorgeous black coat.
