MIDLAND Counties CC Show – 17th May 2009

Report by Mrs. Dorothy A Stone.
It is always a delight to judge at this super show & this year was no exception, so grateful thanks to the marvellous Midland ladies Jean, Brenda, Celia & Inez for inviting me. Profound gratitude also to my steward EMMA MATTHEWS, who was a pleasure to work with, handled the exhibits with confidence & care thereby getting the best from them and knew when to crack the whip! I really enjoyed your company, Emma & look forward to our next encounter. BOV Burmese Neuter awarded to Heather Simpson’s gorgeous Choc Tortie lady IGP PAPAGENA NADINA looking better than ever & has certainly mellowed recently!

DEVON REX MALE KITTEN. 2 present.

1st & BoB BRYNES’s BOUNTIFUL REDSAHEAD. Red Silver Tabby. 14 weeks.
Lovely short broad wedge set on an elegant neck has high cheekbones, a good strong muzzle, well defined whisker break, short stubbly whiskers & eyebrows, good width to top of head that is slightly rounded still. Profile shows rounding to brow, skull is a little rounded still, acceptable stop to short nose, chin has depth but recedes, bite is just level. Huge, well shaped & covered broad based ears with muffs & tufts are set really low & are real jugs thus a joy to behold! Large gold eyes are oval in shape, spaced well apart & have that typically naughty Devon expression! Well grown chap has a nice broad chest, slender muscular body of good weight, stands quite tall on slim muscular legs, neat oval paws, lovely long expressive tail tapers to a point, is well covered with soft dense fur on which the rexing is developing. The rexing is beginning to come in on his short, soft, fine but dense coat that covers his body & limbs, his tummy being covered in soft down. Shown in top condition we utterly adored this typy chap with his meltingly sweet disposition & had an extremely hard job not pocketing him! Heartiest congratulations on his well deserved BOV win!
2nd. BRYNES’s BOUNTIFUL REDHOTLOVER. Red Silver Tabby. 14 weeks.
Litter brother of above & very similar – short high cheek boned wedge of acceptable breadth set on an elegant arching neck, strong muzzle, well defined whisker break, short stubbly whiskers & eyebrows. Profile shows rounding to brow, fairly flat skull, acceptable stop but nose could be a tad shorter, shallow receding chin, bite is very slightly undershot. Broad based ears well coved & rexed have tufts & muffs, are set quite low & are of very good size & shape. Expressive gold eyes are lovely & large, oval in shape & are spaced well apart. Well grown lad has slender muscular body of good weight, broad chest, slim well muscled legs, neat oval paws; expressive tapering tail of very good length is well covered with the rexing developing. Short soft fine but dense coat coming in well on body & limbs, rexing is developing on his flanks & legs, his lovely spotted tummy is covered in soft down. Another little charmer in top condition who lost to his brother’s wider, shorter wedge, better ear set & bite.

DEVON REX FEMALE KITTEN. 4 present.

1st. READ’s ONAWAY HAVE YOU SEEN HER. Black Smoke. 5 mths, 2 wks.
Short broad high cheek boned wedge set on an elegant neck, fairly strong muzzle, well defined whisker break, wavy whiskers & eyebrows. Profile shows rounding to brow also skull still, fairly good stop to short nose, firm level chin & level bite. Large well shaped & covered ears with tufts & muffs are wide based & are fairly low set when relaxed. Large gold eyes are oval in shape, set well apart & have that typically naughty Devon expression. Well grown girl has well shaped slender muscular body of good weight, broad chest, stands tall on slender muscular legs, neat oval paws, well covered & rexed tail is well shaped & of good length. Coat with rexing developing very well covers body, limbs & underside completely, is short, soft & fine but could be rather denser. Sweet, lovely lass in top condition.
2nd. BRYNES’s BOUNTIFUL LORAH ROSA. Lilac Tortie Silver Spotted. 14 wks.
Litter sister of Bob winner but more like 2nd placing – Fairly short high cheek boned wedge set on an elegant neck could be broader, has a slight teething pinch at present thus muzzle seems a little weak, quite well defined whisker break, wavy whiskers & eyebrows. Profile shows rounding to brow, fairly flat skull, fair stop to short nose, chin has depth but recedes, bite is marginally undershot. Well covered broad based ears with muffs & tufts are of very good size, shape & when relaxed are set quite low. Large well set yellow eyes are oval in shape & have a really naughty Devon expression! Slender muscular body of good size & weight has a nice broad chest, slim well muscled legs, neat oval paws, well covered tail with rexing developing is of good shape & length. Her coat is currently very short indeed & has quite a number of guard hairs down her spine giving an incorrect harsh feel whilst her tummy was devoid of hair & clammy to the touch. A dear little soul in good condition.
3rd.SHEPHERD’s MAGICAL JEMIMA PUDDLEDUCK. Seal Silver Tabby & White CP. 6 mths, 1 wk.
High cheek boned wedge set on a lovely neck could be slightly shorter & broader, muzzle is a little weak, whisker break could have more definition, whiskers & eyebrows are short & curly. Profile shows rounding to brow, flat skull, acceptable stop to short nose; chin has depth but recedes, level bite. Large well covered wide based ears with muffs & tufts are of correct shape but are rather high set. Lovely large pale blue eyes are oval in shape, spaced well apart, have a typically mischievous expression but were mucky in the corners. Well grown girlie has slender muscular body of good weight, broad chest, stands tall on slim muscular legs, large white paws of correct oval shape sadly are stained yellow, long fine tail that tapers to a point is well covered & rexed. Rexing developing on her short soft fine dense coat that covers her body & limbs (soft fine down covers her rather dirty tummy). A sweet, alert, quite promising lass in good physical condition who sadly was let down by her show preparation which left a lot to be desired.
4th. ANDERSON’s NIDORAN SHONA LULU. Chocolate Silver Spotted. 5 months.

OCICAT KITTEN. 3 present.

1st & BoB ATKINSON’s THICKTHORN PATIA. Chocolate Female. 5 mths, 2 wks.
Modified wedge set on a well muscled arching neck shows required slight curve from muzzle to cheek & is longer than it is wide, muzzle however is a little weak at present owing to the presence of a teething pinch & whisker pinch could have a little more definition, whisker pads are well spotted. Profile shows required rise from bridge of nose to brow, desired slight dip towards end of nose that has pink coloured leather, a dark rim, small bump & a downward curve at the tip, chin has depth but recedes, bite is just level. Large wide based ears with pale thumb prints on the backs are set neither too high nor too low, have rounded tips with tufts & adequate space between. Expressive gold eyes are lovely & large, almond in shape, obliquely set, have dark chocolate coloured rims & pale coloured surrounds that give required mascara effect. Elegant lass of very good size & weight, bone & substance, has a long straight back, good breadth to deep chest, muscular well proportioned legs of medium length, compact oval paws with pinkish chocolate pads, broad based tapering tail with solid dark chocolate coloured tip with rings alternating with spots along its length which is very good. Lovely short fine close coat of shining copper has satin texture & sheen; pattern that is really sharp & well defined comprises intricate M shape on forehead with lines running up over top of head & down neck, small well defined chocolate spots on base of neck & shoulders, “ribbons” from outer corners of eyes, three broken necklaces, spotted spine line from shoulder blades to base of tail plus a broken spine line, small spots on wrists, broken legs bracelets, lovely spotty tum & clearly defined thumb shaped chocolate spots on the torso. Shown in top condition I loved this sweet gentle girl who trembled with apprehension.
2nd HAYCOCK’s AMEEKA WILDCAT SALLY. Tawny Female. 7 months.
Modified wedge set on a graceful neck is fractionally shorter than its width at present, has required curve from cheek to muzzle, super broad, square muzzle & moderate whisker pinch. Profile shows required rise from bridge of nose (the leather of which is brick red with a black outline) to brow, slight dip, receding chin could be deeper, level bite. Large broad based ears with pale thumb marks on the backs are set neither too high nor too low, have rounded tips & tiny tufts but are quite heavily fringed along the edges. Obliquely set brilliant hazel eyes with black rims & paler surrounds are nice & large, almond in shape and have the required slant upwards towards the ears. Elegant girl has long well muscled body of very good size, bone & substance with required heavy feel, straight back, rounded chest, powerful well proportioned muscular legs of medium length, neat oval paws with black colouring on the heels & black pads, broad based tapering tail is of very good length, has a solid black tip & rings alternating with spots along it length. Slightly long, close-lying glossy coat with satin texture; lovely distinct dark brown pattern on a tawny agouti ground comprises intricate M on forehead, marks on cheeks, spotted whisker pads, thin lines from outer corners of eyes, thin lines running over top of head & down neck but withers/shoulders lack the required small spots, broken spine line with small spots alongside, two broken necklaces, some large arrowhead shaped spots on torso but quite a lot of linkage on ribcage, well spotted tummy, legs have lots of broken bracelets & the wrists have tiny spots. Promising lass in top condition & with a sweet disposition – lost to winner’s better pattern.
3rd. HAYCOCK’s AMEEKA QUESTA GOLD. Cinnamon Female. 7 months.
Modified wedge set on a rather short thick neck has required curve from cheek to muzzle but should be slightly longer, lovely broad square muzzle & moderate whisker pinch. Profile shows required curve from bridge of nose to brow, slight dip, nose leather is pink outlined in cinnamon brown, bite is level but chin recedes & is shallow. Wide based ears set neither too high nor too low are moderately large, have rounded tips with tiny tufts & pale thumb prints on the back. Expressive dark gold eyes of very good size have cinnamon coloured rims & paler coloured surrounds, are almond in shape & obliquely set. Solid long bodied lass of very good size, bone & substance but carrying too many pounds today thus lacks the required elegance, straight back, deep rounded chest, muscular proportionate legs, oval paws have pink pads & pinkish brown colour up the heels, broad based tail with solid cinnamon coloured tip tapers slightly, is of good length & shows plenty of broken rings interspersed by spots. Short fine close-lying coat has satin texture & lustrous sheen, bright cinnamon pattern is well defined on torso & limbs but is very blurred & indistinct down the spine; has required well defined head markings including M on forehead, lines running over top of head & down neck, marks on cheeks, & lines from outer corners of eyes; lots of small spots on base of neck & shoulders, some broken necklaces, lovely spotty tum, leg bracelets & tiny spots on wrists, large clear spots on torso/ribcage. In good physical condition this lass was uptight & un-co-operative today thus failed to show to her best advantage. She lost points on type & indistinct pattern on her back.

SINGAPURA KITTEN. 1 present.

1st. (BoB N/A) BATES’s CATOMINE KEYOLE KATE. Female. 7 months.
Wedge has required rounding to width at outer eye (cheekbones) but is a little on the long side & could be wider, has a slight teething pinch still thus muzzle seems rather weak. Profile shows rounding to brow & forehead, slight stop to short broad nose that has medium salmon coloured leather & complete liner, chin is level bit could be deeper, level bite. Noticeably large wide based ears with warm salmon tones on the backs are quite deeply cupped, well shaped & set. Lovely large expressive eyes are well shaped, set, have dark brown rims, “cheetah marks” in the inner corners & pale ivory coloured spectacle-like surrounds, but hazel colouring is rather pale. Moderately built lass has medium length body of good weight & lithe muscular feel but his rather large for her age, slim muscular legs, large oval paws have rosy brown pads & sepia brown colour up the heels, slender tail of medium length has required blunt finish & solid sepia brown tip the colour of which extends up the tail & along the spine. Short, fine, sleek, shining coat has required satiny feel, is of rather cold toned old ivory base colour with two bands of sepia ticking right at the tip of the shaft, has a broken necklace that is incorrect being heavy & brown, heavy inner foreleg barring, odd smudge on hind knees. A sweet, alert girl in good physical condition but lacked a little in show preparation today. Sorry, but she had too many minor faults to justify the BoB award today I’m afraid.

DEVON REX NEUTER. 1 present, plus one for BoB only.

BoB to Marshall’s gorgeous Gd Pr LORRENTINO CRYSTAL SPARKLE whom I have loved since she wowed me as a baby & looking particularly good today.
1st (PC N/A) DALE’s Pr POOLSIDE OSCAR MISTY. 33a 40 15 MN. 7 yrs, 7 mths.
High cheek boned wedge set on a muscular neck is a little too long & could be broader, muzzle could be stronger & whisker break better defined, wavy whiskers & eyebrows. Profile shows rounding to brow, flat skull at forehead & between ears, rather long nose is virtually straight lacking the required strong stop, bite is now under shot & skew-whiff (i.e. scissor bite). Large wide based ears are well shaped, covered & have muffs & tufts but are set too high. Gorgeous yellow eyes have a really naughty expression. Mature chap has well shaped & muscled body of good weight, broad chest, stands tall on slim muscular legs, neat oval paws, expressive well covered & rexed tail is of very good shape & length. Soft, dense coat that covers body, limbs & underside completely (bar some seasonal loss on his neck) is very well rexed in corkscrew curls but is too long. A sweet chap looking good for his age – we had a lovely cuddle. Sorry to disappoint by not awarding the PC but unfortunately his bite, wedge length, breadth & lack of required stop precluded this.

LaPERM NEUTER. 1 present.

1st IC & BoB TAYLOR’s ASWANI MIRANNA KEYS. 80L 31gt FN. 20 months.
Super head on an erect neck, nice broad muzzle with full, rounded whisker pads, long wavy whiskers & eyebrows. Profile shows rounded brow & flat forehead, gentle break to broad nose, deep level chin & level bite. Large ears well shaped & set lack furnishings & tufts. Expressive hazel eyes are large & very well shaped & set. Lovely weight & muscle to this young lady of medium size, moderate build & medium bone, correct legs, large round paws, lovely full plumed tail that is broad at the base & tapers at the tip. Super wavy coat of good length is light, airy, stands away from the body & has that lovely just got out of bed look. An utterly adorable lady in top condition & beautifully presented who should go to the top!

BLUE BURMESE NEUTER. 1 present.

1st PC & BoB WRIGGLESWORTH’s Pr MOLYNMEUX ISOBEL. FN. 15 mths, 2 wks.
Super wedge & dome, well shaped & set ears could be a tad smaller, good break to slightly long nose, firm level chin & level bite. Gorgeous buttercup yellow eyes enhanced with mascara have that unique frown! Stylish young lady of very good size, weight & conformation has hard muscular feel, shapely limbs, well shaped tail with a few faint rings balances. Quality coat with highly polished finish is of lovely antique pewter with silvering on rounded areas. In top condition, this lady (with the same name as my late mother) really impressed me – congratulations on her Res Grand PC win – keep trying!

Moderate, jowly wedge with gentle contours set on an elegant muscular neck tapers to a slightly rounded muzzle & has good width to gently rounded top of head. Profile shows gentle break to broad nose that has brick coloured leather with a dark outline but has a small unsightly bump, lovely firm level chin & level bite. Large quite well cupped ears are well shaped, pricked, have furry edges, tufts on tips & are set widely apart thus follow the line of the wedge. Expressive, brilliant hazel eyes in an Oriental setting have dark liner & paler spectacle –like surrounds, are of very good size, are rounded almond in shape & are spaced well apart. Quite mature for his age, elegant but powerful lithe muscular body of good size & weight, straight back, rounded chest, slim muscular legs, neat oval paws have black pads & dark pads & “spurs” on the heels, broad based slightly thick tail of very good length tapers at the tip which is solid black in colour. Well muscled body of good weight but just a little large in size for his age, good legs & oval paws with dark colour up the heels, slender tail with blunt finish & solid brown tip is a little too long. Large broad based ears with rounded tips & forward tilt are set well apart thus continue the upper part of the face. 2nd. BOARDMAN’s Ch ARTRO LILAC MOONSTONE. Lilac Female. 4 yrs, 8 mths.
Lilac litter sister of above & very similar – she has some blue contrast on her mask, ears & tail which lost her a point or two & she would benefit from the loss of a couple of pounds (hark at me!), but despite this she surely must go all the way. Why haven’t I seen her before?!!

These 2 babies were the highlight of my day – I was just itching to get my hands on them!
1st. ROBINSON’s MOLYNMEUX GOLD DUST. Cream Male. 20 weeks.
Fabulous type to this adorable baby boy, his only real fault being that his colour is a tad on the hot side, other than that he jolly nearly went into my pocket – he did not want to go back into his pen!!
2nd. WILLIAMS’s MOLYNMEUX ZAZEUX. Lilac Tortie Female. 20 weeks.
Gorgeous girl, litter sister to above - I had to really “nit pick” to find anything wrong with her – her break could be slightly stronger & she has a number of shadows on her knees (that I hope won’t develop into anything serious). Heartiest congratulations on her BOV win!

AC BURMESE RADIUS KITTEN. 1 present.

1st. WILSHAW’s ROSSIKHAN DADDYS GIRL. Lilac Female. 18 weeks.

What a joy to see this gorgeous girl, whom I have adored together with her brother Johnny Ringo since she was a tiny baby, again. Immature still – needs time to mature.
