Semi Long Hair Cat Association 21.03.09

Mrs Val Anderson

I had a very enjoyable day in the company of Sue Amor who was excellent company and handled the cats with care. The lift to the station was also much appreciated. I took on some of John Hansson & Joyce Price’s classes and hope the exhibitors were not too disappointed. As Joyce was unable to be present I was given the honour of choosing the Best Somali Exhibit and I gave the award to Mr & Mrs Stables’s handsome usual neutered boy: IMP GR PR MERLIESIN CAISEAL BEAG.

OPEN CLASSES

AOV SLH CHAMPION MALE

1ST (GCC WITHHELD) ATKINSON’S UK & IMP GR CH VELVETJEWELS CULLINAN (64 31t) M 17.12.03 Maine Coon

A mature brown tabby & white boy of 5 years, strong & masculine. Strong head, broad & well-proportioned, very slightly longer than wide. Uniform width to the nose & square muzzle. Fairly full cheeks and high cheek bones. Good profile with a shallow concave curve plus a small nose bump. Deep firm chin but his bite is marginally undershot. His ears could be larger to balance the rest of his head and they are set a fraction low. Broad base to the ears with tufts & inner furnishings but they could be taller. Lovely expressive eyes, full & round in a slightly oblique aperture and set. Strong muscular body of a good weight, long & rectangular with excellent bone development. Substantial limbs with large tufted paws and long flowing tail. Not a lot of coat at present, shorter length on the body with a very slight ruff & the tail fur could be more profuse. Classic tabby pattern with black markings on a paler agouti base. Clear markings, just a little diffuse down his back, white on belly, chest and feet. Ringed tail with dark tip and good head markings. Shown in beautiful condition and very gentle nature. Certificate withheld because of the bite.

2ND WATTS’S CH LENNALI BARRINGTON BAGGINS (63) M 05.03.07 Usual Somali

A well-grown boy with lots of coat. Head a moderate wedge with rounded contours & good profile. His bite appeared to be level but few incisors remaining. Cupped ears set wide apart with good inner furnishing but no tufts. Large eyes, a touch full, amber in colour but could be deeper. Muscular body of medium length & build with limbs & tail to balance. Dense coat though it could be silkier, a little greasy on the body. Good ruff, bushy tail and lovely toe tufts. Ticking present though difficult to see in the hall light and the overall colour could be richer I think. Darker spine line, black heels and black tip to the tail.

AC SILVER SOMALI ADULT, FEMALE

1ST CC COONEY’S DESIREE SILVER ZE SVOBODY (63s) F 29.10.05 Usual Silver

A well-grown elegant girl of 3 years of a good weight for her size. Head a moderate wedge with rounded contours though her muzzle is a touch fine. Slight nose break in profile plus a small nose bump. Level bite but I would prefer a stronger chin. Large cupped ears set wide apart and large expressive eyes of almond shape. Long body with limbs & tail to balance. Silky & fine coat that lies close along the body but could be denser & her tail could be bushier. Clearly ticked with black on a silvery-white base. Chest clear of markings & a lovely silvery-white tummy. Darker spine line and black tip to the tail.

2ND ROBERTSON’S CH SUPATOFT QAALI (63es) F 20.09.04 Fawn Silver

A well-grown mature girl of 4 years. Head a moderate wedge with rounded contours. Slight nose break in profile but her chin could be stronger & deeper and the bite is slightly undershot. Large cupped ears without tufts, set wide apart. Large eyes that are a touch rounded. Elegant body of a good weight for her size with limbs & tail to balance. Dense well-prepared coat, silky & fine and lying close down the spine. Fawn ticking on a silvery-white base. Fawn tip to the tail. She was a little timid at first but better when she relaxed.

3RD DARWISH’S SORAFEL LEONARA (63cs) F 20.07.06 Blue Silver

A very elegant girl of 2½ years though she could carry a little more weight. Head a moderate wedge though her muzzle could be broader. Profile a little straight and her chin could be stronger, level bite. Large cupped ears set wide apart and large expressive green eyes with good depth of colour. Long body with elegant limbs and small oval paws, long tapering tail. Silky coat that lies close along the spine & clearly ticked with blue on a silvery-white base. Chest practically clear, a slight well-broken necklet. Darker spine line and blue tail tip.

4TH DARWISH’S TAJURA TAZANNA (63es) F 15.07.05 Fawn Silver

A smallish girl of 3½ years. Feminine head, a moderate wedge with rounded contours and good whisker indentation. Slight nose break in profile but her chin could be stronger. Bite just meets but lovely teeth for her age. Cupped ears set wide apart and large eyes of good shape & set. Elegant body with elegant limbs & moderately long tail. Coat could be better prepared, rather greasy on her tummy. Coat a little harsh but lying close down her back. Lovely fawn ticking on a silvery-white base. Good fawn heels, slightly darker spine line and fawn line down her tail to the tip.

BOB BULLIVANT’S CH DESTINY SILVER ZE SVOBODY (63s) F 29.10.05

A lovely balanced girl of 3 years, litter sister to the certificate winner. Head a good moderate wedge with rounded contours, whisker indentation and rounded muzzle. Good nose bread in profile, shallow but firm chin and level bite. Well-set cupped ears and large expressive eyes. Muscular body of medium build with limbs & tail to balance. Dense soft coat with black ticking on a silvery-white base, slight tarnishing on her face and back. Silvery-white tummy, black heels and tail tip. Shown in lovely condition.

USUAL SOMALI KITTEN

1ST & BOB ABBOTT’S SUENICO TESS PUMBLECHOOK (63) F 19.07.08

A very sweet girl of 8 months with a beautiful coat. Balanced head, a moderate wedge with a whisker indentation and strong muzzle. Good nose break in profile, OK chin and level bite. Well-set cupped ears & almond-shaped eyes set on a slant but they could be larger. Muscular body of medium length with elegant limbs. Tail very bushy but could be a little longer for balance. Dense coat with lovely preparation & clearly ticked with black on an apricot base, very slight grey near the skin. Darker spine line and black heels & tail tip but rather heavy though well-broken double necklet. Shown in excellent condition, a gentle girl, very showy and with lots of style!

2ND HINES’S STACYM TANTALITE TEMPTRESS (63) F 27.07.08

Another lovely kitten. A very elegant girl of 7½ months though she needs to fill out, not as heavy as expected. Head a moderate wedge with rounded contours and good width between the ears. Slight whisker indentation and rounded muzzle but her chin could be a little stronger. Slight nose break in profile plus a small nose bump. Lovely large cupped ears set wide apart and large expressive eyes of almond shape set on a slight slant. Elegant body with lovely long legs & tail. Lots of coat with a ruff and bushy tail, silky & fine with black ticking on an apricot base. Darker spine line and black tail tip, chest practically clear. A very wriggly girl who wasn’t keen on being handled outside of her pen which was a shame.
