West Country Cat Club 17.01.09

Mrs Val Anderson

Many thanks to Elaine, Lisa & John and the Committee for the invite to this friendly show. Despite the “credit crunch” this show had a very good entry and it was not just quantity but quality too as I some lovely cats to judge. I had a very enjoyable day in the company of Sue Amor who came especially to steward and took great care of me and the cats.

OPEN CLASSES

A lovely start to the day with a strong class of Norwegian kittens.

NORWEGIAN FOREST KITTEN MALE

1ST HANDY’S NORSKMAGI TAVARIS (67 31ts) MN 24.06.08

A handsome silver tabby & white boy of not quite 7 months. Triangular head, a fraction longer than wide at present. Rounded forehead & straight profile, deep chin that rounds off at the tip. Level bite with lovely teeth. Large ears with a broad base, not rounded & set high and open and following the lines of the head. Teeny tufts but good inner furnishing. Large eyes of oval shape in an oblique setting. Long body, well-grown with lovely strong bone. Long legs & large, round tufted paw. Very bushy tail, it could be a fraction longer for balance but OK. Beautifully-prepared coat, the length developing but double already with a woolly undercoat overlaid by a topcoat. Very gentle & shown in excellent condition. A promising kitten, lost out to the girl for Best of Breed as she was older and more the finished package.

NORWEGIAN FOREST KITTEN FEMALE

1ST BOB MANSELL’S FORESTSHADOW CAJSA (67 18a) F 18.04.08

A very elegant blue silver tabby girl just one day off being an adult. A beautiful girl with a lovely Norwegian look. Triangular head with all sides equal & straight profile. Level bite & deep chin that rounds off a touch at the tip. Tall well-set ears with inner furnishing but no tufts. Large well-opened eyes of oval shape in an oblique setting. Lovely body shape, well-grown with strong bone, she stands tall with strong limbs & large round paws. Lovely bushiness to her tail but for perfection it could be a little longer. Beautiful coat, developing well and of a good length with a super ruff to frame the face. Shown in excellent condition. This girl has lots of presence and is a pleasure to judge. Later Best SLH Exhibit – congratulations to her owner & breeder!

2ND MANSELL’S FORESTSHADOW CHLOE (67 31ats) F 18.04.08

A blue silver tabby & white girl, litter sister to the winner and another lovely example of the breed. Triangular head with all sides equal, straight profile but a bump over the forehead. Level bite & good chin. Quite large ears set high & open with inner furnishing but no tufts. Large eyes of oval shape in an oblique setting, ideally they could be a little more open. Strong muscular body carried high on strong limbs & long bushy tail. Well-prepared coat, double with the topcoat beginning to develop. Good length to the coat but not much ruff as her sister. Superb temperament and shown in excellent condition.

3RD HANDY’S NORSKMAGI TATYANNA (67 31ts) F 24.06.08

A silver tabby & white girl of not quite 7 months. I was not surprised to find out that she is litter sister to the boy as there are lots of similarities but her boning is a little finer though she has a good body shape. Triangular head slightly longer than wide with a rounded forehead and straight profile. Deep chin that could be a fraction stronger & level bite. Large ears set high & open and following the lines of the head. Inner furnishing but no tufts. Good shape & set to her eyes but they could be a little more “wide open”. Long body carried high on long limbs & long bushy tail. Lovely coat preparation, the length & texture developing. Super temperament and condition.

4TH HANDY’S NORSKMAGI VERONIQUE (67 36) F 14.07.08

A well-grown smoke girl of 6 months. Head triangular with all sides equal. Straight profile apart from a very slight nose bump. Deep chin that slopes off a little, scissor bite but probably teething at present. Large tall ears with a broad base, set high & open. Large wide open eyes in an oblique setting but of a rounded oval shape. Long body with lovely strong bone & standing tall. Bushy tail with a blunt tip. Well-prepared coat with a silky texture at present. Very sweet temperament and shown in super condition.

EGYPTIAN MAU KITTEN

1ST BOB CROUCH’S CWMDARRAN AZRAFF (78 36) M 29.06.08 Smoke

A well-grown young man of 6½ months who was a little in awe of the occasion. Head a slightly rounded wedge of medium length with rounded contours. Gentle contour to the profile, level bite & deep chin that falls off a little at the tip. Parallel nose. Well-set moderately large ears & straight-set eyes but they were looking a little round though probably due to being nervous. Eye colour developing with a green rim around the pupil but they are mainly amber at present. Strong muscular body with limbs & tail to balance. Close-lying silky & fine coat with a pale silver undercoat tipped with black. Spotted pattern visible, spine line still breaking up. Broken necklaces on the chest. Shown in lovely condition.

RUSSIAN BLACK OR WHITE KITTEN ASSESSMENT

MERIT TO:

KAYE’S CATWO BIATY PANTERO (16a 14c) F 21.04.08

A Russian White girl of nearly 9 months; a sweet girl with beautiful eyes. Short wedge, flat skull and good angle & profile. Her muzzle could be a little broader and I would prefer more prominent whisker pads. Level bite and shallow chin. Large ears set a fraction wide but tall with a broad base. Almond-shaped eyes set wide apart, they could be larger but of an excellent green colour. Very elegant, well-grown muscular body with long elegant limbs and small oval paws. Long tapering tail to balance. Moulting at present but her coat is fine and reasonably soft; double coat but it could be plushier. Pure white with no tinge of yellow. A few dark hairs between the ears. Excellent temperament & condition. A promising girl, I was happy to award the Merit.

BROWN SPOTTED BENGAL NEUTER

1ST PC & BOB EGAN’S GR CH & GR PR ZAWADI SHAMWARI (76 30) MN 26.06.06

A super boy of 2½ years with an excellent temperament. Broad masculine head slightly longer than wide with a large nose & broad muzzle. Level bite and good chin. Wide-set ears with a broad base & rounded tips; not too tall but they could be smaller. Large green eyes of oval shape. Strong muscular body, long & sleek with muscular limbs of medium length. Excellent tail of medium length and even thickness. Very soft, dense coat clearly spotted with a rich overall colour & distinct rosetted spots. Rich golden colour to the base coat though of a deeper colour on the underparts. Well-marked limbs & tail and spotted tummy. A pleasure to judge and later Best Foreign Exhibit – congratulations to his owner & breeder!

2ND COAK’S FORESTGEMS KEETO (76 30) MN 11.03.08

A very strong, muscular boy of only 10 months, very well-grown and of a lovely weight for his size. Typical Bengal look, head slightly longer than wide with a large nose & broad muzzle. Level bite. Medium ears held forward in profile with a broad base & rounded tips. Large expressive green eyes of good shape & set. Strong muscular body with strong limbs to balance & correct tail of medium length, thick & even. Soft dense coat with large rosetted spots with a distinct dark brown outline; spine line still breaking up. Rich golden base coat, white on the chin and lips. Spotted tummy & ringed tail with a black tip. Shown in lovely condition but a bit naughty when handled especially when returning to his pen.

3RD BRADLEY & DONALD’S ZAWADI MARLBOROUGH MUNGO (76 30) MN 20.01.08

A well-grown young man of 11 months. Head a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with a level bite and good chin. Large nose but his muzzle could be broader. Good profile. Ears a little tall but with a broad base & rounded tips and held forward in profile. Large oval-shaped eyes set on a slight slant. Thick neck & long muscular body with muscular limbs to balance. Moderately long tail, good thickness at the base & slightly tapering; small pip at the tip. Soft coat though it could be denser & more luxurious. Spotted pattern with some rosetted spots but also some linkage and there could be more contrast with the golden base coat. Spotted tummy, well-marked limbs with spots & bars and ringed tail with a dark tip.
I also had 2 other handsome fellows to consider for Best of Breed: COAK’S GR PR ADMILSH ZABARI who ran the winner close & EGAN’S GR PR ZAWADI HAMSINI a strong muscular lad with a lovely gentle nature.

LAPERM NEUTER

1ST IC & BOB TAYLOR’S AMORCATZ SCARLETTOHARA (80L 15d) FN 10.04.06

A strong muscular & well-grown girl of 2½ years. Head a modified wedge with good width between the ears, moderate whisker break and good muzzle. Good profile & chin and level bite. Medium ears, slightly flared & cupped with inner furnishing and muffs. Large expressive eyes. Strong well-fed body of moderate foreign type with limbs to balance but her tail could be a fraction longer. Lovely coat, long & unstructured and standing away from the body. Good length to the coat and plumed tail. Well-rexed with the desired springy texture and soft to the touch. Lovely rich red colour though no points for this. Lovely temperament and easy to handle. Unfortunately she had been sitting in her litter tray and she had lots of litter stuck to her underparts!

Well-grown body of medium size with limbs & tail to balance. Dense coat that lies close along the spine. Some pale grey next to the skin but it doesn’t detract from the overall colour. Darker spine line & black tip to the tail. Chest clear of markings and black heels. Nicely presented, a gentle boy shown in lovely condition.

2ND SHEPPERD’S TASSARE BARRINGTON (63 41) MN Maine Coon

A strong & muscular brown tabby boy of 1½ years. Head a fraction long & could be broader though good placement to the nasal bridge. Square muzzle but his nose tapers a little. High cheek bones & fairly full cheeks. Shallow concave curve to the profile, level bite & reasonably strong chin. Large tall ears with tufts, inner feathering and a broad base but they are held a little flared. Large expressive eyes, full and round in a slightly oblique aperture and set. Rectangular body with strong bone. Substantial limbs and large round feet with tufted toes. Long flowing tail. Well-prepared long coat with a glossy topcoat & the length increasing down the body, not much ruff but he does have a shirt front. Classic tabby pattern but with a pale overall colour and brown rather than black markings. Black tail tip. A gentle fellow though he was keen to return to his pen.

AC RUSSIAN, KORAT OR THAI BREEDERS ADULT

1ST KAYE’S GR CH SITHEE LILLIBULLERO (16a) F Russian Blue

An elegant girl of 3 years with a lovely Russian look though her coat is probably not at its best. Head with a flat skull & short wedge. Large vertically set ears & lovely green eyes of almond shape. Prominent whisker pads. Elegant & muscular body with slender limbs, small oval paws and long tapering tail. Pale coat with lots of silvery sheen but a little uneven & with a slight spine line at present. Coat double but it could be a little softer.

2ND WATLING’S ADATESH HOLLY BALOO (16a) F Russian Blue

A young girl of only 12 months who was not in the best of moods. She condescended to come out of her pen but was not fully assessed. Flat skull & short wedge but her whisker pads could be more prominent. Large ears set vertically to the head & almond-shaped eyes. Elegant body with limbs to balance & moderately long tail. Lovely even blue colour to her coat.

A well-grown young man of 1½ years with a strong & muscular body yet elegant too. Broad masculine head with well-developed jowls. Flat skull, short wedge & prominent whisker pads. Large ears set a fraction wide; he could put them up if prompted. Almond-shaped eyes of a good green colour but they are set a little deep and could be larger. 1ST KAYE’S SITHEE SAFFYSAFFRAN (16a) F Russian Blue

Large vertically-set ears & almond-shaped eyes. Very elegant body with long limbs & tiny oval paws. Long tapering tail to balance. Double coat of medium blue though it pales at the roots. A sweet-natured girl who was easy to handle.

AC RUSSIAN, KORAT OR THAI NON-BREEDERS KITTEN

1ST HIPKIN’S GLASNOST OLENKA (16a) F Russian Blue

An older kitten of 8 months with a dense plushy coat but it is rather long and pales at the roots. Large vertically-set ears & good green eye colour though her eyes are a touch small & deep set. Prominent whisker pads but a little pinched behind. Elegant body with long limbs & tail.
