Wilts & District Cat Club 04.07.09

Mrs Val Anderson
Thanks to Elaine & Jackie for the invite to this friendly show.  I had an enjoyable day and some lovely cats to judge.  I was fortunate to have fellow judge Carolyn Davies as my steward who was gentle with the cats and pleasant company, maybe I can return the favour one day?

OPEN CLASSES

ORIGINAL FOREIGN PREMIER MALE

1ST (GPC WITHHELD) ROBERTSON’S PR PHILOKALIA OLIVER SUDDEN (33a 36) MN 30.07.00 Devon Rex
A strong & muscular black smoke boy of nearly 9 years of a good weight for his size and in lovely condition for his age.  Head a broad, quite short wedge with high cheek bones.  Flat skull, rounded forehead & quite short nose, the stop could be better defined.  Strong deep chin but unfortunately his bite is undershot.  Large ears with a broad base & rounded tips with tufts, set low & wide apart.  Large oval eyes set wide and on a slant.  Muscular body of medium build with quite long legs, tail of reasonable length but a little thick.  Well-covered with a dense coat, good rexing with ripples on the body, just a little untidy and slightly straighter down the spine.  He had a bit of a grumble but was not a problem to handle.  Certificate withheld because of the bite.
2ND RICE’S PR DIADEM MOODY BLUE (33a 36a) MN 28.03.05 Devon Rex
A mature boy of 4 years.  Broad head but it could be shorter.  Flat skull & rounded forehead, quite good stop (it can be felt) but his nose is a little long.  Level bite & shallow chin that could be stronger.  Large ears set reasonably low, large eyes of rounded oval shape.  Elegant & muscular body with long limbs & long tapering tail.  Reasonably well-covered, his coat is loosely waved with the rexing mainly on the limbs & lower body.  Coat a little coarse on the body where it could be denser with some guard hairs showing.  Long crinkly whiskers.

ORIGINAL FOREIGN PREMIER FEMALE

A challenging class with 4 lovely girls representing 4 of the 5 breeds eligible for this class.
GPC POLLARD’S GR CH & PR CHUASIRI SONG SUDA (34) FN 04.03.05 Korat
A mature girl of 4 years.  Lovely head, heart-shaped with breadth between & across the eyes & gently rounded muzzle.  Short nose & slight stop in profile, her nose drops off at the tip but she has a small nose bump.  Level bite and good chin.  Well-set moderately large ears and large luminous eyes of a brilliant green colour.  Muscular & semi-cobby body with limbs & tail to balance.  Single coat, fine & close-lying of an even blue with silver tipping.  Shown in excellent condition.  She made the usual Korat noises and was fine when handled but a little naughty when returned to her pen.
RGPC ARNOLD’S UK IGR CH & GR PR PAPAVER CRESSIDA (33 31s) FN 30.04.98 Cornish Rex
A very mature girl of 11 years, a black smoke & white and an old favourite of mine but beginning to show her age a little and her coat was a little thin down the spine.  Typical Cornish look, head a medium wedge narrowing to a rounded muzzle & practically straight profile.  Firm chin & level bite with lovely teeth especially for her age.  Large ears set rather high, mussel shell shape with a broad base & rounded tips.  Oval eyes of medium size set on a slight slant.  Elegant neck & muscular body of medium length of a good weight.  Long limbs & long tapering tail.  Moulting on the day so her coat probably not at its best but well-covered with just a small patch of stud tail.  Good rexing with ripples on the body.  Excellent temperament, very purry & happy to be handled.

USUAL SOMALI NEUTER

BOB STABLES’S IGR PR MERLIESIN CAISEAL BEAG (63) MN 26.10.03
A strong muscular boy show in excellent condition & beautifully presented.  Head a moderate wedge with rounded contours & good width between the ears.  Rounded muzzle & typical Somali “smile”.  Slight nose break in profile, level bite & deep chin.  Large cupped ears set wide apart & large eyes of almond shape set on a slant.  Strong muscular body with elegant limbs & tapering tail.  Well-prepared coat with a silky & fine texture & lying close along the spine.  Rich overall colour with black ticking on an apricot base but some pale grey next to the skin on the body.  Good facial markings, pale lips & chin.  Darker spine line, black tail tip and excellent heels.  Very gentle nature & happy to be judged.

AC SILVER SOMALI NEUTER

1ST PC & BOB STABLES’S GR CH & PR AMORES OPHELIA FIZKIN (63s) FN 14.02.03 Usual Silver
An elegant girl of 6 years with a feminine look.  Head a moderate wedge with rounded contours & good width between the ears but her muzzle could be a little broader.  High rounded forehead & slight nose break in profile, level bite but her chin slopes away a little.  Cupped ears set wide apart & lovely expressive eyes with good depth to their greeny colour.  Elegant body of medium build with elegant limbs & reasonably long tail.  Silky & fine coat of good density with a ruff & breeches.  Distinct black ticking on a silvery-white base with just a little tarnishing on her face & lower limbs.  Darker spine line & black heels.  Shown in lovely condition and easy to handle though she had a bit of a grumble.

CORNISH REX ADULT, FEMALE

1ST CC ARNOLD’S PAPAVER ARTEMIS (33 36) F 20.09.07
An elegant young black smoke girl of 21 months with a lovely coat.  Head a medium wedge narrowing to a rounded muzzle with a straight profile.  Level bite but her chin falls away a little.  Large ears set rather high with a broad base & rounded tips but her eyes are a little full & more rounded than oval.  Slender neck & muscular body of medium length.  Long slender limbs & long fine tail.  Dense silken coat with an attractive smoke effect down the spine.  Well-covered & lovely rexing with ripples on the body.  Long whiskers.  A gentle girl who was easy to handle.
2ND ARNOLD’S PAPAVER ARIADNE (33 36b) F 20.09.07
A chocolate smoke girl & litter sister to Artemis.  Lots of similarities between the two but I preferred the overall balance of Artemis.  Head a fraction long & her muzzle is a little square.  Flat skull, rounded forehead and straight profile.  Level bite but her chin falls away a little.  Large ears with a broad base & rounded tips, set rather high.  Her eyes are a little bold and she tends to round them.  Elegant & muscular body of a good weight for her size & carried high on long slender limbs.  Long fine tail to balance.  Well-covered with a silken dense coat & lovely feel to the touch.  Coat plushy on the shoulders but good rexing along her back and well-rexed tail.  Easy to handle.
BOB ARNOLD’S GR CH PAPAVER FLORA (33 31hs) F 30.03.02
A mature chocolate tortie smoke & white girl of 7 years from the same household & dam of the 2 girls entered in the open.  Good head, a medium wedge narrowing to a rounded muzzle with a straight profile.  Moderately large ears with a broad base & rounded tips, set rather high.  Medium eyes of oval shape.  Well-grown muscular body with limbs & tail to balance.  Well-covered with a loosely wave coat that is a fraction long but of an even length on the body.  A sweet-natured girl who was easy to handle.

MISCELLANEOUS CLASSES

AC MAINE COON, NORWEGIAN FOREST OR SIBERIAN NON BREEDERS KITTEN

1ST GILLMAN’S MABALAKAT ROTHKO (64 41w) M Maine Coon
A well-grown brown tabby & white baby boy of only 4 months.  Attractive head with white on the muzzle accentuating the squareness.  Head broad, of medium length & slightly longer than wide with uniform width to the nose.  High cheek bones, cheeks quite full.  Shallow concave curve to the profile & deep chin but it rounds off a little at the tip.  Level bite.  Huge tall ears with a broad base tapering to tips with large tufts plus inner feathering.  Round eyes in a slightly oblique aperture & set but they could be a little larger.  Long rectangular body though not as heavy as expected; he needs to fill it out.  Strong limbs with large round feet & tufted toes, quite long tail, it could do with a little more length for balance.  His coat appeared to be developing.  Lovely head markings with a distinct “M” & pale fur around the eyes.  Classic tabby pattern to the shoulders with the beginnings of a butterfly marking but little tabby pattern on the rest of the body and solid tail, maybe this will improve as the coat grows through?  White on his feet, tummy, chest and face.  A purry kitten with a gorgeous temperament & shown in super condition.
2ND READ’S KYLERHEA INDIGO (67 22) F Norwegian Forest
A well-grown tortie & white girl of 8 months.  Triangular head with a straight profile.  Level bite but her chin falls away a little.  Well-set ears but they could be a little larger & oblique-set eyes but they could be larger & more oval.  Strong muscular body with sturdy limbs & long bushy tail.  Well-prepared dense coat with a well-developed woolly undercoat & silky topcoat.  Mainly tortie with small amount of white on her chest and pale tip to the tail.

A young white boy of 16 months with a lovely coat.  Head a short broad wedge with high cheek bones & a short nose.  Quite good stop, shallow chin, his bite seemed to be ok but I only had a brief glimpse.  Large ears with a broad base & rounded tips, set wide apart but could be a little lower.  Large expressive eyes of oval shape & set wide and on a slight slant.  Muscular body with elegant limbs and long tapering tail well-covered with short fur.  Dense white coat, soft & of an even length on the body, downy tummy.  Good rexing and crinkly whiskers & eyebrows.
