Eastern Counties Cat Society 01.08.09

Mrs Val Anderson
Many thanks to Audrey & Les and the Committee for the invite and the hospitality. I had a very enjoyable day and some lovely cats to judge. Many thanks to Dave Gooding for expert stewarding as usual.

OPEN CLASSES

ORIGINAL FOREIGN PREMIER MALE

GPC BANDY’S IGR PR TROIKA LE CORSAIRE (16a) MN 28.03.04 Russian Blue
A handsome mature boy of 5 years with an extremely gentle nature. Gorgeous Russian look as if he had been at the vodka! Flat skull, short wedge & prominent whisker pads. Good angle & slight curve in profile. Level bite & deep firm chin. Large vertically-set ears and green almond-shaped eyes. Well-grown elegant body with elegant limbs & long tail, slightly thicker at the base. Coat dense & double though it could be a touch softer. Slightly darker down the spine but otherwise and even blue plus a silvery sheen & good colour to the roots. A nice way to start the day!

ORIGINAL FOREIGN PREMIER FEMALE

GPC NOBLE’S GR CH & PR TROIKA AURORA (16a) FN 03.05.02 Russian Blue
A mature girl of 7 years with a feminine head & pretty look. Flat skull to the head & short wedge but her profile is rather straight. Prominent whisker pads that rather square the muzzle. Large ears set a fraction wide but she did put them up for me. Lovely green colour to her almond-shaped eyes but they could be a little bigger. Elegant well-fed body with slender limbs & small oval paws. Long tapering tail to balance. Double coat with a fine texture, pale overall colour as she has a well-developed silvery sheen. Even blue colour apart from being slightly darker down the spine. A gentle girl & easy to handle. Shown in lovely condition and looking good for her age.
RGPC CUMMINS’S PR LEGEND IOTA TIGERLILY (23) FN 05.07.06 Usual Abyssinian
A well-grown girl of 3 years with a lovely rich overall colour to her coat. Head a moderate wedge with good width between the ears tapering to a rounded muzzle that could be a little fuller. Rounded contours to the head with a slight nose break in profile plus a large nose bump, good chin and level bite. Quite large cupped ears set wide apart. Large greeny-coloured eyes of rounded almond shape and set on a slant. Body of medium size but rather too well fed which spoils her elegance & makes her tail appear a little short for balance. Long elegant limbs and oval paws. Lovely coat, short fine and close-lying and clearly ticked with black on a bright apricot base. Slightly darker spine line, short heels and pale lips and chin. Rather heavy triple necklets though they are well broken. Moulting a little on the day but shown in lovely condition. Easy to handle though she had a lot to complain about.

RUSSIAN BLUE ADULT MALE

1ST CC & BOB BOND-WONNEBERGER’S CH FURBELL STARGAZER (16a) M 03.03.08
A young boy of only 16 months, very elegant and with a lovely gentle nature. Lovely Russian look to his head; flat skull, short wedge, good angle & profile. Level bite but I would prefer his chin to be a little stronger, prominent whisker pads. Large vertically-set ears and almond-shaped green eyes set wide apart though they could be a little bigger. Elegant body with long legs & small oval paws, long tapering tail to balance. Double coat, short soft & fine and plushy, probably not at its best but allowance made because of the time of the year. Even blue colour plus a silvery sheen, just a few faint rings on his tail. A pleasure to judge, congratulations to his owner/breeder as he went on to become BIS Foreign adult.

RUSSIAN BLUE ADULT FEMALE

1ST CC BANDY’S TROIKA TSVETAEVA (16a) F 03.05.07
An elegant girl of 2 years, a little shy & wriggly when out but affectionate in her pen. Flat skull, short wedge and good angle & profile though she has a slight nose bump. Level bite & prominent whisker pads but her chin could be stronger. Well-set ears but they could be a little larger. Green eyes of almond shape & set wide apart. Elegant & muscular body with long limbs & long tapering tail. Coat double & plushy though it could be a little softer & it pales a little at the roots. Well-developed silvery sheen.
2ND HARVEY’S TROIKA AKHMATOVA (16a) F 03.05.07
Litter sister to the winner but lots of differences between the two. Akhmatova is much larger than her sister, very well-grown yet elegant too. Head with a flat skull & short wedge, good angle but a slight dip in profile. Prominent whisker pads, level bite but her chin falls away a little. Large ears set a little too wide & she tends to flare them at times. Pale green eyes set wide apart if a little deep and they could be more almond in shape. Long muscular body with limbs and tail to balance & small oval paws. Coat double with a soft fine texture but could be a little denser. Even blue colour plus a well-developed silvery sheen. Unusual whorl of fur on the back of neck – a result of an injection or spot-on treatment perhaps? A gentle friendly girl. I preferred the overall size & elegance of this girl but it was the more typical Russian look of her sister that won her the class.

BLUE ABYSSINIAN ADULT

1ST (CC WITHHELD) MEAD’S PANDALEE BLUE RUFFIAN (23c) M 02.10.07
An extremely wriggly blue boy of 21 months who was keen to get back in his pen & even there was not in the best of moods so only handle briefly and not fully assessed. Head a moderate wedge with good width between the ears but his muzzle is a touch fine. Bite not checked. Cupped ears set wide apart & eyes of rounded almond shape but they could be more expressive. Muscular body of medium build with limbs & tail to balance. Short fine & close-lying coat with good density. Some ticking present but it could be more distinct, solid colour to the top of his head. Warm colour to the underparts but paler base coat on the body. Pale “specs” and vertical pencil lines but lacking lines on his cheeks. Darker spine line and clear chest. His chin needs attention. Certificate withheld because of lack of ticking and not fully assessed.

USUAL ABYSSINIAN KITTEN

1ST & BOB DAVISON’S PUSSINI TARANTELLA (23) F 02.11.08
A well-grown girl just a few days off being an adult. Head a little long & her muzzle is rather fine. Slight nose break plus a slight nose bump in profile. Her bite appeared to be level though I only had a brief glimpse. Cupped ears set wide apart with tiny tufts. Lovely amber colour to her eyes of rounded almond shape. Elegant & muscular body with elegant limbs and oval paws. Long tapering tail with a reasonably thick base. Dense fine & close-lying coat, some richness down her back but I would prefer a richer overall colour though clearly ticked with black on an apricot base. OK facial markings, creamy coloured chin. Faint well-broken necklet -mainly smudges on the edge of her chest but rather a lot of inner leg bars. I hesitated over the Best of Breed but gave her the benefit of the doubt as she is probably going through a “teenager” stage.

USUAL ABYSSINIAN NEUTER

BOB CUMMINS’S PR LEGEND IOTA TIGERLILY

KORAT NEUTER

1ST PC & BOB DAY’S MAIPENRAI DOC FLOWER (34) FN 01.06.08
A young girl of only 12 months making a lot of Korat noises. Heart-shaped head with good width between & across the eyes curving to a gently rounded muzzle. Large flat forehead & slight stop in profile. She has a small nose bump in profile but it emphasises the nose dropping off. Good chin & level bite, she was reluctant to have it checked though. Well-set ears and large wide-open luminous eyes of a lovely brilliant green colour especially for her age. Well-grown semi-cobby body of a good weight for her size. Elegant limbs & medium length tail heavier at the base. Lovely coat quality, short fine & close-lying with an even blue colour on the body & silver tipping beginning to develop. Shown in excellent condition and beautifully presented.

BROWN SPOTTED BENGAL NEUTER, MALE

1ST PC NUTTER’S ADSETSH ASIL SERHAM (76 30) MN 23.04.07
A large elegant boy of 2 years with a soft dense coat. Head a medium wedge longer than wide with a large nose & quite broad muzzle. Level bite but his profile is a touch straight & his chin could be stronger. Well-set ears with a broad base & rounded tips but they could be smaller. Large green eyes of oval shape. Long sleek & robust muscular body with strong limbs & quite large, round paws. Tail a touch long & could be thicker. Warm overall colour & clearly spotted on a rich golden base with large arrowhead spots though some linkage on the left hand side. Good head markings, spotted tummy, well-marked limbs & ringed tail with a dark tip. Shown in lovely condition and easy to handle.

BROWN SPOTTED BENGAL NEUTER, FEMALE

1ST PC & BOB HERRING’S CLARKESFIELD JAIPUR (76 30) FN 01.12.07
A lovely girl of 20 months, very well-grown & strong and muscular. Head a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with rounded contours. Large nose & broad mule with pronounced whisker pads. Good profile plus a small nose bump. Level bite but her chin could be a little stronger. Wide set ears, not too large, with a broad base & rounded tips. Large green eyes with good depth of colour. Strong body, long & sleek with good depth of flank. Strong limbs of medium length & excellent tail of medium length and even thickness. Soft dense coat of a warm overall colour with lots of glitter showing. Clearly spotted with large arrowhead spots on a rich golden base & pale underparts overlaid with spots. Clear head markings, well-marked limbs and ringed tail with a dark tip. A gentle girl with a friendly nature.

SNOW SPOTTED BENGAL NEUTER

BOB FORDHAM’S PR RAJIQUE INDIAN SHADOW (76a 30) MN 20.03.07
An elegant aoc-eyed fellow of 2 years who could perhaps carry a little more weight. Good head, a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with a large nose & broad muzzle. Good profile & level bite. Wide set ears with a broad base & rounded tips. Large bluey-green oval eyes with lovely depth of colour. Strong neck & long body with limbs to balance. Tail of medium length, thick at the base but tapers a little. Soft coat that could be a little denser but clearly spotted on a pale tan base with darker colour to the head. Large arrowhead spots. Not a problem to handle though lots of rude language aimed at his neighbours!

EGYPTIAN MAU NEUTER

1ST PC & BOB MUNRO & RICHARDSON’S AALSPOTZ KRYSTAL (78 30s) FN 12.02.08
An attractive silver spotted young girl of 17 months. Well-grown & heavier than expected when handled. Good head, a slightly rounded wedge of medium length. Good profile & chin, level bite. Uniform width to the nose. Well-set ears of medium size and large straight set eyes of rounded almond shape; green around the pupil but probably still developing. Strong, well-fed muscular body with limbs to balance & medium length tail, moderately thick at the base. Close-lying dense coat of medium length with a resilient texture. Clear spotting with small black spots on a silvery-white agouti base, spine line still breaking up and just a hint of tarnish on her legs. Good head markings, spotted tummy & spots and bars on the limbs. Nicely presented, a gentle girl shown in lovely condition though she wasn’t very keen on the Bengal next door.

SPHYNX NEUTER

1ST IC & BOB BLOXHAM’S WOOZLES ANAKIN (84 31f) MN 28.08.08
A young cream & white boy of only 11 months but well-grown, strong & muscular. Head a modified wedge with a slight stop in profile, level bite but his chin could be a little stronger. Distinct whisker break, prominent whisker pads and rounded muzzle. Large ears, wide open at the base & tapering to a rounded tip, set at a slight angle. Large lemon-shaped eyes set wide apart & on a slant. Long neck & muscular body with a well-rounded abdomen. Quite long limbs and oval feet with long toes and thick pads. Long fine tail. Fine down on the skin giving the desired soft warm chamois leather feel, slightly thicker down on the nose & back of the ears. Wrinkles on the forehead and across the shoulders. A friendly boy shown in lovely condition.
