North West Cat Club Show – 27th September 2008

Joy Norfolk

Many thanks to Lesley and her management team for the invitation to judge at this friendly show, always the highlight of my show year and for their excellent hospitality I thank all those who entered their cats under me most sincerely, having only just returned to the show scene after my collapse in Singapore. I thank all kind friends in the Fancy who sent cards, flowers and messages of support. I had the pleasure of meeting some truly wonderful exhibits. I am indebted to Colin for his help and cheerful support and skilful handling of the cats which always brings out the best in them.

DEVON REX KITTEN MALE

1 –& BOB RICHARDSON’S NIDORAN FEARDORCHA (33a 30bs) M 06 02 08

Lovely kitten, exudes confidence and well prepared for the show. Well grown kitten for his age with good expression, of strong, muscular build and with long slim legs. Very large ears which were wide at the base and with small muffs, these he held well and they were set at the correct angle. In essence he looks like a Devon. Wedge short, broad and with high cheek bones. Some stop, I would have liked more, but he is young as yet, strong muzzle, shows short stubbly whiskers. Firm chin the bite is level. Large expressive eyes of correct placement and shape sloping toward the outer edges of the ear. Good ears held at the correct angle, very wide at the base and with rounded tops, the fur is so fine it looks almost translucent. Brow curves back to a nice flat skull. Head is carried on a very elegant neck. Lovely short crinkled whiskers. Body of good weight and size for his age, long and muscular. Overall he is well rexed with tight waves developing. Chocolate silver coat of pleasing texture, fine and soft to touch. Limbs are long and slim, he has the correct stance with the hind legs higher. Tail is long, straight and tapering and well covered with fur. Great care had been taken to show this kitten in optimum condition.

2 – BRYNES’S NIDORAN GRYLLYS ( 33a16) M 12 04 08

Sweet boy, very young as yet with a lot of growing ahead. Head forms a short broad wedge with a strong muzzle and high cheek bones, good stop and whisker break. Brow curves back to a flat skull. Good ears, wide at the base, large and low set. Viewed from the rear he showed nice little muffs. Small crinkled whiskers. Oval shaped yellow eyes set wide apart, for perfection could perhaps have been more on a slant to give the desired “wicked” expression. In profile shows a slight stop and a reasonable depth of chin. The bite was level. Neck was long and slender but with a downy covering only which was the same for the rest of his body which gave him a sude effect. However there was a good covering of nicely rexed fur on his thighs extending down his slim legs. Body felt light but with good muscle tone, Tail long, fine and tapering covered with fur and ending in a small curl. Well behaved kitten and well presented.

DEVON REX KITTEN FEMALE

1 –BROWNING’S POOLSIDE RUBY RIPPLE (33a 30sw) F 18 01 08

This was an elegant kitten, confident and alert and very easy to judge, she has a perfect temperament. The head was a bit fine formed a short wedge with high cheekbones, and well shaped firm muzzle and a well defined whisker break. Chin and bite were level, for perfection the chin could have been a trifle deeper. The wide based ears were large with good width between and when viewed from behind, showed little ear muffs. Her slanted oval eyes gave her a quizzical, impish expression, the brow curved back to a nice flat skull and she had adequate stop which was visible. She had a a feminine body, well muscled body with broad chest, down was present on the underbody. Correct stance, with her hind legs longer and a good long tail which tapered to the end. Definitely a fun loving girl who deserved to win with her typical look and splendid temperament.

2 – TAMS’ TEDDIREXI POOLSIDE TOPSEY (33a31a) F 03.02 08

An alert and confident kitten, keen to come out and interested in all that was going on. Short to medium wedge good width across her high cheek bones. Good ears very wide at the base showing slight muffs and nicely rounded tips with little tufts. She could hold these fairly low, but was excited when out of the pen so tended to hold them higher. Her forehead curved back to a nice flat skull. Expressive eyes of correct shape and placement. Chin and bite were level. Very elegant neck, a feminine body well covered with short fur of good texture. Waving as yet to develop on the body. Legs elegant, long and slim and here the rexing was developing well. Very good length of tail tapering at the tip well covered with waved fur. Shown in good condition

3 – BROWNING’S NIDORAN GENEVIEVE (33a36e) F 12.04 08

This young lady was covered with short fine fur that was not yet rexed. A nice natured kitten and easy to assess. She was taking stock of all around her so her eyes looked rather round today. Head formed a short wedge of good width. High cheek bones and a fair stop. Muzzle good and a fair whisker break Level chin and bite. Neck elegant and covered with short soft fur but as was the rest of her elegant body, not yet rexed. Her lithe body was firm with a rounded chest. Correct stance on tall slim legs, higher at the rear. Tail well covered and quite shapely but a fraction short for balance. Again beautifully presented.

AV FOREIGN MAIDEN ADULT

1 –PONTELLO’S PONTABY SOGNASTELLA(23) F 27 05 07

This cat clearly wanted to be somewhere else today and made a great commotion when taken from her pen. She is not aggressive but she just could not relax. A powerful well grown girl for her age. This cat was of really good colour and type but terribly difficult to assess as she would not cooperate at all. Gently rounded brow and good top of head with width between her well set ears with well furred inners which followed the line of the wedge but sadly had no tufts. She has the typical look of the breed with large, expressive almond shaped eyes in a correct setting with good eyeliner. Good facial markings. In profile she displays a slight nose break and level chin. The bite was level. Cream around her mouth and chin but no white. Neck short, body lithe and elegant and of good weight for her age. No necklets or leg barring. Nice straight back and rounded chest. Desired bands of ticking evident, rich base colour and ruddy underparts. No evidence of any grey roots and the coat texture was dense and resilient. A good black spine line and tail tip. Small black hocks in evidence which were nice to see, well boned strong limbs and neat compact paws. She would be a super girl if only she could calm down. As a specimen of this breed she conforms very well to the standard.

2 –SEDGWICK’S CATWO KORLYA (16a) M 27 11 07

A short, wedge-shaped head was topped by large pointed ears, set vertically to his head. Eyes were vivid green, wide set almond shaped, quite deeply set and very clear. He possibly needs a little more bread across his cheeks. Prominent whisker pads, no nose bump and a strong deep chin, the bite was level. Lean medium-sized body and a short, plush, blue coat. The body was long and graceful with medium strong bone. Typical double coat, texture thick and silky with the undercoat was soft and downy, and the longer guard hairs were an even blue. Legs were long with small oval paws and the tail was fairly substantial in shape, long and tapering, a good standing tail. There were no undesirable markings. This boy had an elegant appearance with an aristocratic expression typical of the breed.
