NOTTS AND DERBY CAT CLUB SHOW 23RD JANUARY 2010 JUDGES REPORT MS JANE E. ALLEN

My sincere thanks to Mesdames Rawnsley and Walsh and the committee for their kind invitation to judge. I had a lovely day with some super cats to judge. I was also delighted to have my good friend Anna McEntee as my steward as ever super efficient, great company and so good at keeping me on task!!! Thanks so much Anna. I took over some of Linda Martin and Teresa Coles classes, I wish both ladies a speedy recovery.

AC PERSIAN IMPERIAL GRAND CHAMPION MALE

IGR CH MORRIS GR CH COUNTRYGIRL GRAPEVINE 4 16.4.08

What an amazing start to my day, I could have spent hours just looking at him. Phenominal male with outstanding head type and body to match in full coat that was a sound, strong red colour. Groomed to perfection what more could I have asked for. Congratulations to his owner and breeder.

PEWTER/BLUE PEWTER ADULT

1 CC BOB MERCHANTS REMILIKAT SILKENDORIS 53 27.4.08

A well built female with good width between her ears that were a little upright. Round eyes of reasonable size and orange colouring. Short nose with correct leather colouring and nicely outlined. Wide cheeks, just a little undershot mouth. Her coat texture was very soft and her colouring well developed. Just some slight tarnishing on her face but overall nicely shown.

DILUTE CAMEO KITTEN

I liked this young lady very much. Nicely balanced head and type with neat ears just a touch open at base. Round, copper coloured eyes. Short nose with nice leather and nostrils. Wide, fat cheeks with scissor bite and firm chin. Cobby frame with great substance and stocky limbs and short, full tail. Her coat was well shown and very full, with some evidence of contrast.

PEWTER/BLUE PEWTER KITTEN

This little chap stole my heart! What a super example of this breed! Round head full of type with neat, well set ears and fab furnishings. Large, deep copper eyes. Short upturned nose, wide cheeks. Scissor bite and firm chin. Stocky, boxy frame with short legs and short tail. His coat colouring was developing well, with lovely contrast. Just minimal barring on his legs at present. Super character as well as a lovely boy. Congratulations to both owner and breeder.

A really seasoned campaigner and still a very nice example of the breed, in full coat and shown very well.

I gave this chap the PR today on his very nicely balanced head and type. Super round head with well set ears, round bold eyes. Short nose with nice leather and nostrils. Good bite and firm chin. Lovely weight to his body and short, rounded tail. I found his coat to be shady and on the dark side for cream. I also felt he needed more grooming as he was moulting. I met his devoted Mum after I had finished judging and she was sporting both hands in plaster – so all being equal I think she had done her absolute best in grooming him!

Still a very young male with the most wonderful coat for colour and classic patterning but his head type was yet to develop the desired width to head and cheeks, and develop the desired body weight and tone, this was my reason for not being able to award the CC on the day.

SEAL POINT BIRMAN KITTEN

1 BOB ENSORS KITTAH DEIDAEMEIA 16.6.09

Very attractive kitten with a strong, broad rounded skull. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Full, rounded cheeks. Chin full and slightly tapering. Mediumsized ears that were well set apart on her skull. Almost round eyes of sound, deep blue. Long body with good weight. Medium length legs that were thick set. Round, strong paws. Bushy, slightly brindled tail that was nicely proportioned to her body. Her points colouring was just a little brindled on mask as well as her tail and her body colouring was showing signs of a slight temperature mark too, but was clearing at the roots. Her coat texture was generally long and silky, just a little coarser in texture along her spine line. Her gloves were almost to the angle of foot and leg, just slightly scalloped to the inside. Her socks were covering the whole back foot and her gauntlets were slightly tapering up the back of her leg, the left very slightly offset to the left. A confident young lady with a lovely temperament.

2 WHITBYS TAMANDRIA SWEET TINA 13c1 22.6.09

Another well grown kitten with broad, rounded skull. Medium length nose with slight dip but with a slight roman nose in profile. Slightly receding on her chin and I did feel that her head was a little short needing a little more definition around her muzzle. Almost round eyes that were a medium shade of blue. Medium sized ears that were set well apart on her skull. Long body of nice weight and substance. Medium length nicely boned legs with short, strong paws. Her bushy tail was slightly brindled but was balancing her body proportionately. Very nicely shown long, silky textured coat, Her ruff developing. Her points colouring showed a dense seal mask, with the colour still developing on her legs. Her body colouring was a pale beige but with some shading over her shoulders that detracted a little from her overall coat colouring. Very well shown and again very nice to handle.

BLUE POINT BIRMAN KITTEN

1 BOB INSTONES KITTAH HECUBA 16.6.09

Litter sister to the seal girl. Very nicely grown girl with strong, broad rounded head with medium sized ears that could have been a little wider set on her head. Almost round eyes of sound, mid blue in colour. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile and quite a well developed chin. Long body that was of good body weight and substance. Medium length legs with nice boning. Short, strong paws. Bushy tail that balanced the body well. Her coat was of nice length and quite silky in texture. Her blue-grey points were quite evenly matched and her body colouring was bluish white. Her gloves almost reached to the angle between paw and leg, the right one just a little lower and very slightly scalloped. Her white socks covered her back paws and her gauntlets were very well matched, tapering slightly up her back legs to ¾ to the hock. Well groomed.

2 GARDINOR ATAKAD AKIND OFMAGIC 21.5.09

Another very well grown, confident kitten with a strong head and rounded contours but I would have liked a little more width to both her head, muzzle and chin. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Widely set medium sized ears. Almost round, sound blue eyes. Excellent long, well filled body with medium length legs of lovely boning and round, strong paws. Bushy tail balanced her body well. Her coat was very well shown, silky in texture and of good length. Her points colouring were quite even blue-grey with bluish white body colouring. Her gloves were white almost to the angle between her paws and legs with just a slight dip to the inside. Her white socks covered her back paws. Her gauntles white to half way to her hock, just slightly narrower on her left one, the right one finishing rather bluntly. Nicely presented exhibit.

RED, CREAM TORTIE GROUP BIRMAN KITTEN

Eye catching young lady with a super personality! Strong, broad nicely rounded skull with medium sized ears nicely set on her skull. Medium length nose with slight dip nicely tapering to a strong muzzle with well developed chin. Almost round eyes of strong blue colour. Nice long body with great body weight. Medium length, nicely boned limbs with strong, round paws. Bushy tail that balances her body well. Very well shown silky coat with nice length developing. Her points colouring was vibrant shades of red and seal brown, showing both colours on her legs. Her body colouring was warm fawn with minimal shading on her back and sides. Her gloves were white to just below the angle of her paw and leg. White socks covered her back feet and her gauntlets tapered to just over half way up her back legs.

BROWN/BLUE TABBY (INC BI COLOUR) MAINE COON KITTEN

This was a most attractive young lady! Large, high set ears with super furnishing and almost an ears width between. Large, expressive eyes that were slightly obliquely set. High cheek bones and a very promising squareness of muzzle. Uniform width nose with shallow concave curve in profile. Great profile and firmness to her chin. Long body with nice depth and substance. Long, well boned legs with strong, round tufted paws. Long tail with great furnishings. Her coat developing in length with super texture. I was very impressed with the clarity of the classic patterning and the warm agouti colouring. Very well shown.

2 NUTTERS LUNARIS MISS DIVINE 64 41 13.8.09

Hard lines to come up against Dora! This girl was also very well grown with super ears and setting. I think she must have been teething as her eyes were a bit wet and sore when we judged her and that would also have accounted for her slight weakness on her muzzle and chin. Lovely long body and tail again with great weight and substance. Nice length coat showing the differentiation of length, classic tabby patterning just a little cold in colour as yet.

I just loved this female, so superbly balanced facially with cobby frame, excellent substance and in full coat that was dense black and groomed to perfection.

2 HACKING BALOOBOO SWEET SUCCESS 1

Only just 9 months, this male was also wonderful the deciding factor was maturity and soundness of the coat, one to watch I am sure.

Pretty young lady with very nicely balanced head with smooth skull. Round orange eyes that are open and expressive, short nose with wide cheeks. Nice cheeks and good bite and depth of chin. Her body was quite cobby with nice weight and good boning to her short legs. Short, rounded tail. Nicely defined patches of red and black interspersed with white. Very attractive and well shown.

2 DAVIES MIDLANDER MAKING RIPPLES 70 11

A more mature female by one year and with a very typy expression. Nicely balanced expression with widehead and neat ears. Round eyes of good colour. Short broad nose but with slightly small nose leather and nostrils. Good bite and chin. Cobby frame that I would like to be overall large in size. Her coat colouring was mainly black with some patches of red. Her coat was quite dense and standing away from her body, just a little coarser in texture than the winners.

A very attractive young man who was not overly happy on the day. Very promising type with broad rounded skull, medium size ears placed well apart on his skull. Almost round mid blue eyes. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Tapering muzzle to firm chin and level bite. Very well developed long body with bushy tail in proportion. Substantial boning to his medium length legs and strong round paws. Silky off white magnolia coat with a long ruff. Pleasing pinkish grey mask, his legs were not quite as well developed as yet and his tail was nearly matching his mask. His gloves were white to the angle of his paw and leg, fully coloured socks and his gauntlets were to ¾ way up his hock and slightly tapering. Very well shown.

2 GARDINORS CARRISMOON ATAKAD ASTAR 13c5 9.4.09

Still rather kitten like in appearance but a very attractive young lady with such style. Broad, rounded skull with medium ears set well apart. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Full cheeks, tapering to a well developed muzzle with a firm chin and level bite. Almost round eyes with a strong blue in colour. Long body with bushy tail balancing her body well. Medium length legs with good boning and short, strong paws. Her coat was not overly long but very silky and smooth, ruff developing around her neck. Her points colouring was a strong red and her body colouring a pleasing pale cream. Her gloves were pure white ending in an even line at the paw and leg. Her socks covered the entire paw and her gauntlets were slightly tapering to ¾ of the way up her hock. Very well shown and a confident, happy youngster.

A more mature female but for me she needed a little more width and roundness to her head and cheeks. Almost round eyes of a sound blue colouring. Medium length nose with a slight dip in profile and tapering to a firm chin. Long body and bushy tail in proportion, I would like a little more weight to her body. Medium length legs with short paws. Her points colouring was nicely intermingled but the red was rather on the cold in tone. Nicely coloured body colouring with silky texture and well shown. Her gloves and gauntlets were nicely marked.

What an impressive cat he is! Incredible size and substance to this handsome chap. Lovely head type with super set to his large, upright ears, almost an ear’s width between. High broad cheeks. Expressive eyes bold and slightly obliquely set. Shallow concave curve in profile and super perpendicular line to a firm chin. Square muzzle. Excellent physique and muscle tone. Long body and legs. Tail long and well furnished. His coat was dense black against the white. So well shown and a real gentle giant.

I liked this exhibit as well, but he lost out having slightly paler eye colouring and just a little on maturity being that few months younger.

Mature and substantial male. Strong, rounded head with lovely breadth to his cheeks. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile and tapering to a strong muzzle and nice depth of chin. Medium sized ears, very well set on his broad skull. Almost round eyes of sound blue colour. Long, very substantial body with medium lengthy legs and short paws. Bushy tail that just balanced his body. Silky coat of nice length and clear ivory in colour and very well shown. His points colouring were very well matched and a milk chocolate colouring against bronze background colour. I thought the tabby patterning was very distinct with clear head markings M to the forehead, spectacle markings around his eyes and lovely spotted whisker pads. His legs were clearly defined stripes and his tail was clearly ringed. His gloves were white to the angle of paw and leg, white socks and gauntlets were tapering to just below the hock. Very well shown.

Mature female with super head and balance. Strong, broad head nicely rounded and with medium sized ears well set apart on her skull. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Wide cheeks rounded and tapering to a nice depth and strength of chin. Almost round deep blue eyes that were so expressive. Not overly large but long in the body with bushy tail balanced her frame well. Medium length legs with short paws. Her coat was very well shown, silky in texture with a full ruff to frame her head and off white magnolia in colour. Her points colouring was a lovely warm pink/grey and matching very well. Very nicely marked gloves and gauntlets that were pure white. A most lovely balanced serene exhibit.

Pleasing NFC who I also like a lot, she has super head type with equilateral triangle and a straight profile. Large, well spaced ears that follow the lines of her head. Expressive eyes well set. Long body but I felt her tail could have done with a little more length to balance her body. Very well shown and ran the winner closely.

Another super cat in the most wonderful condition! Lovely breadth to her strong, rounded skull. Medium length nose with slight dip in profile. Full rounded cheeks tapering to a nicely developed muzzle. Almost round eyes still of a lovely blue colour. Long, well filled body and tail balances well. Medium length legs with short paws. Well groomed silky coat texture of bluish white with super ruff framing her head. Her tabby points were well matched with clear blue tabby markings against the light beige background. Her head showed the desired M to the forehead, thumb prints to her ears, spectacle markings around her eyes and spotted whisker pads. Her legs and tail were nicely ringed. Her gloves were sparkling white and well marked to the crease between paw and leg, white socks and nicely tapering to just below the hock.

A young boy with plenty of maturing to do but with nice large frame and body weight. Promising head and type, quite nice patterning just slightly solid on his back at present, all there but just needing a little more maturity. Well shown.
