Scottish Cat club Show February 13th 2010 Show Report from Shar Crichton

Many thanks to Isobel, Denise, Tommy and the club for the invitation and hospitality. I had a lovely day at this friendly show and was ably assisted by Joanna Lamont who is an excellent steward who handled the cats with great kindness and skill for which I gratefully thank her and I will look forward to working with her another time. The new venue was well received and had plenty of parking spaces and the show appeared to have a good gate. I had some lovely exhibits to judge and was pleased to see an excellent range of longhair breeds including some lovely tabbies and some super semi longhair cats.

AC Birman Champion Male

1st Only. GR CC Witheld Mellor’s CH BULLAMOOR BRAVEHEART

This was my first cat of the day and I was sad to have to withhold on this well grown boy who has many pleasing features. He is a large seal point boy with good boning and strong thick, well muscled legs of medium height. The head had good width and a rounded forehead. A medium length nose had a slight curve at the nasal bridge and a dark seal brown nose leather. The face had good cheek width with cheeks that were rounded and full. The chin was solid and tapered well and he had a good level bite. His ears were of medium size and were sited far apart on the head. The eyes were spaced well apart and were large, fairly round in shape and had eye colour that I would have expected to be deeper for a seal point and would have preferred them to be deeper for perfection but they were a good mid blue shade with a lovely expression. The coat was beige, shady over his back and was very soft and silky in texture with a good ruff and a well furnished tail that was in proportion to the body length. The mask was a dark seal brown and covered the face well including the whisker pads and generally matched the colour of the other points but the tail was slightly brindled and he had a patch of reddish tarnishing midway along his tail which regrettably was the reason for withholding his award. The foot markings were very clean and white with well matching gloves on the upper paw surface but the left glove had a line on the underside running towards the stop but not extending beyond. The socks were level and well matched and he had gauntlets that covered two thirds the length of the paw but the left one was a little shorter and was more blunt. He had a lovely easy going nature and was happy to be handled and was shown with good show preparation.

AC Birman Champion Female

1st GR CC McGowan’s CH BULLAMOOR SKY DREAMER

A very pretty blue point girl with good birman type who I met as a kitten and find that she has matured very well. At just over two and a half years of age she has grown well in size with a rounded head that had good width and with well placed ears of medium size. Good profile with a slight dip at the nasal bridge which had a full slate grey nose leather. Cheek width was wide and the cheeks were rounded and full and she had a firm chin that was slightly tapering and a level bite. The eyes were almost round and were large in size and had very good deep blue eye colour that was lovely to see and which had a pleasing birman expression. Body was firm and solid and supported on strong legs that had short rounded paws. A bushy tail was well furnished and was in proportion to the body length while the coat was soft and fairly long with a silky texture and was very clear bluish white and had a full ruff over the shoulders. The points were well matched in colour and were a pale blue grey shade with the mask almost covering the whole face but very slightly brindled just above the eyes at this time. The foot markings were generally very good and were pristine white. She had good level gloves that were just a touch low but very well matched on upper and lower sides of the paw. The socks were level and matching just rising a little at the sides and she had good full length gauntlets reaching close to the hock. A very well presented girl who had been prepared to a high standard and who has a lovely gentle nature. I liked her very much as a kitten and am pleased that she has fulfilled her early promise.

Reserve Doble’s CH ESAYA POPPY OF BULLAMOOR

A red point girl that I have had the pleasure of judging before and who is a well developed mature female aged just over five and a half. Body size was large and was solid, firm and had well muscled legs with short strong paws. Good birman head type with plenty of width to the face with a broad skull and a rounded forehead. Medium size ears were sited far apart on the head and she had almost round eyes that were large and had excellent deep blue colour, even deeper in the centre and with a pleasing birman expression. Her profile was good with a medium length nose that had a slight dip mid length and had a full pink nose leather. The cheeks were full and well rounded and she had a firm slightly tapering chin with a perfect level bite. Her coat was lovely and soft with a very silky texture and was long, of a pale cream shade with a very slight golden tinge over her back. She had a fully formed ruff that was soft and slightly curly fur on her tummy. The tale was in proportion to the body length and was bushy and well furnished. The mask was full and was a rich orange shade and the other points were clearly defined and contrasted well with the paler body colour. Foot markings were clean and pure white with the gloves being well matched on both paw surfaces, very slightly scalloped and just a touch low for perfection but really very good. The socks were not quite identical but pretty close, having the right one just slightly higher on the upper surface of the foot while the gauntlets differed slightly in widths having the right one shorter, thinner and more pointed and the left one broader and with a blunt rounded tip. As far a show temperament goes, she is a lady that excels in charm and has a delightful nature and who is expertly presented and is worthy of high award.

Tabby Colourpoint Adult

1 CC and BOB McCluskey’s JENZJEWELS SPOILTFORCHOICE

A red point boy just old enough to be in an adult class but really well grown, with a very sturdy, solid muscular build, set in a lovely cobby body conformation. Broad chest, thick neck and large shoulders with a well rounded rump and a body frame supported on short thick legs with well rounded fat paws that had lovely paw feathering. Excellent head type which was well balanced, broad and smooth and with a well rounded forehead. Good spacing between the ears which were small and low set, fitting well into the skull contours. Flat profile with a broad short nose with a strong nose break and a fully formed pink nose leather and good size nostrils. Well developed muzzle, full apple cheeks that were plump and rounded and he had a strong chin and a good scissor bite. Very noticeable large fully round eyes, set well apart with good blue eye colour that was deeper in the centre and with a lovely bold expression. Fabulous long soft dense coat that was glossy, very soft and glamorous with a lovely long frill, fluffy trousers and a short bushy tail that was shaped like a christmas tree. The coat was a sound apricot white with the points showing rich red tabby markings over a lighter apricot agouti ground. The mask was covering the face well and he had a clear tabby ‘M’ on his forehead, pale spectacles around the eyes and spotted whisker pads. The legs had faint tabby barring and the tail had just a hint of broken rings but was hard to see at present. An impressive young male with the loveliest of expressions and a very gentle nature who was in beautiful condition and had excellent presentation. He was my nomination for best in show longhair adult.

Exotic SH Self Adult

1 CC and BOB Campbell’s DEDANNAN CHASING RAINBOWS

A one year old black exotic male who is just over a year old and who is not yet at his peak but who has time on his side as he matures further. He had good type and has a cobby body shape of medium size but not large as yet but was firm, solid and very heavy in weight with good boning and with short well muscled legs. He had a rounded head shape with small ears set well apart on the skull. Round eyes of large size had good deep copper colour and pleasing bold expression. A very short turned up nose had a strong stop and a shiny black nose leather. A strong chin balanced the top half of the face. The cheeks were full and round and he had firm muzzle. The coat was a very sound black and was not as dense as it could have been as it felt a little harsh to touch due to lack of undercoat at the present time but it was shiny and in good condition otherwise. The tail was short and very thick and in proportion to the body length. A placid cat who was good natured when handled.

Exotic SH Tabby or Tabby and White Adult

BOB Niven’s NOREXOTICKATTS CASPERCAROT

Almost four year old, this red red tabby boy is fully mature and has a massive strong body and head with heavy boning and strong musculature which gives his body a heavy weight and a solid feel. The chest was broad and he had a short thick neck, massive shoulders and a very well rounded rump. The legs were strong and thick to support his cobby frame and had large fat rounded paws. Wonderful broad top of head, very masculine with small ears set well apart and placed low and showing clear thumbprints. A broad flat face had bold eyes with excellent copper colour that were large and well rounded and with pale tabby spectacles. A very short nose had good width, a strong nose break and a full pink nose leather with generous nostrils. Well developed muzzle showing spotted tabby whisker pads and fat cheeks with a strong deep chin and a level bite. The body was well clothed in a coat of pale red overlaid with very rich red tabby markings. It felt thick, dense and plush and had a soft texture and stood out well from the body. The tail was thick in circumference and was short in length and had clear tabby rings. Head and face tabby markings were very clear with an ‘M’ and strong face and head lines. There was a clear butterfly over the shoulders and good barring on the legs while the back had faint spine lines running down the body length. A cat with good show manners.

1 CC Sattar’s SHEERBLISS NEMO

A black silver tabby and white boy who was just nine months old and who has lovely type and was just old enough to be in the adult class. Not yet fully mature he still appears very young but already showing some lovely physical attributes and has a promising future I am sure. Shapely body with good bone, cobby shape of good weight and strong well muscled legs with rounded paws. Wide smoothly rounded head with plenty of width between the ears which were small and had well rounded tips. Stunning bold eyes that were very large, fully rounded and had copper colour that was still changing and not yet fixed and which gave the face a lovely expression. A short snub nose had a decent nose break and a small pink nose leather and nostrils. A firm muzzle and well developed fat cheeks gave fullness to the face. The chin was balanced and strong and he had a scissor bite. The coat had a soft texture and was dense and plush and stood out well from the body. Tabby pattern was of the classic type and was dense black which contrasted well with the underlying silver ground and the white areas were a clean and sparkling white. He had pale spectacles around the eyes and the face and head were mainly silver tabby and showing a clear ‘M’ on his forehead and good facial and head lines. He had a white moustache on the muzzle and a white bib and an incomplete white collar round his neck. His white underside had some tabby spotting and all four feet were white while most of his body was tabby. Three distinct spine lines ran down his back and he had a short very thick fat tail which had complete and very strong tabby rings. An impressive cat that had a wonderful temperament, the loveliest of expressions who I seriously considered for best of breed but decided that the maturity of the older exhibit deserved the award this time but it was a close call and I am sure and hope this lovely boy will go on to greater things.

2 Campbell’s DEDANNAN GLEN REDICK

A red tabby boy with fairly good type and who was unlucky to have such strong competition on the day. He has a very sturdy strong body, of good weight with cobby shape, thick neck and a broad chest with short thick legs. Rounded head with plenty of width and with ears that were of medium size and just a little open and upright and needing to bring them down a bit. Eyes were large and well rounded with super copper colour that does not come much deeper and with a bright alert expression. Short nose with a strong stop and a small deep pink nose leather and small nostrils. He had a broad muzzle with rounded cheeks, a strong chin and a bite that was slightly undershot. His coat was thick and dense and very plush with a soft texture that stood out well from the body. It had rich red tabby markings overlying a paler apricot ground and was a clear classic pattern. There was a strong ‘M’ on his forehead, good pencilling on his cheeks and clear eye lines running to the side of his face. The muzzle had spotted whisker pads and he had pale spectacles around the eyes. A strong butterfly was visible over his back and he had three distinct unbroken spine lines running down his back, broad stripes down his sides and oysters on his flanks. His tummy had clear spots and he had a short thick fat tail with tabby rings. A real wriggler when handled but one who was not unhappy at being inspected.

Black Tortie/Chocolate Tortie and White Kitten

1 and BOB Harvie’s BLANFORD BYZANTINE BEAUTY

A six month old black tortie and white babe who was a delight to handle. A very pretty kitten who was a good size for her age with a cobby body shape with good bone and balanced shape set on short low set legs. Lovely rounded skull with plenty of width between the ears which were small and set well on top. Beautiful large round eyes that were very noticeable and had promising muddy eye colour that was still changing and which gave her a pleasing facial expression. Flat profile with a cute short snub nose that was broad and which had a full pink leathered nose and well open nostrils. The bite was level and she had full chubby cheeks, good muzzle width and a firm balanced chin. The coat was long, soft and dense and was brightly coloured with good tortie patches of black and red over a clean white ground . The front paws were white while the hind paws had long white socks. The face had a red and white stripe on her forehead, a white muzzle, black cheeks and a red chin. The back was mainly black with a rich red patch on her flanks and a short fluffy tail which was brightly coloured. A very sweet kitten who was a little poser when handled and who was well presented.

AC Bi-Colour Neuter Female

BOB Dembski’s IGR CH and PR LINDENLEA VANILLA

Almost seven years of age this large blue and white female has an extremely cobby body shape with excellent boning, good body weight and a lovely rounded rump and a broad chest and short tree trunk legs. Good head type that was broad, mostly blue over the top of head and had well set ears of medium size. Her nose was white and very short with a strong nose break and a strong pink nose leather with tiny nostrils that I would prefer to be larger. The cheeks were full and chubby and she had a white muzzle that was broad, a white moustache and a well developed strong blue chin with a scissor bite. The eyes were fully round and large and had deep orange eye colour which was good for a cat of her age. The back was mainly blue, sound in colour, of a pleasing mid blue shade. She had a thin white collar around her neck with a white bib and underside and a white patch on her left flank. The short tail was well feathered and the coat length was very long and full with a good frill around her neck and lovely fluffy trousers. Show preparation was very good and she had a gentle well mannered nature.

Seal Point Birman Adult Male

1 and CC Witheld Mellor’s CH BULLAMOOR BRAVEHEART

Seal Point Birman Adult Female

1 CC and BOB McGowan’s BULLAMOOR DARK SECRET

A ten month old young lady who is developing well. She has pleasing birman type with a firm body that was well grown for her age, with good boning and strong legs of medium height which had short rounded paws. Head shape had good width and was broad and rounded. Her nose had the correct profile with a slight dip, was of medium length and had a seal brown nose leather. She had good cheek width with cheeks that were round and full and her chin was firm, balanced and nicely tapering and with a good level bite. Medium sized ears were well sited far apart on the skull and she had large bright eyes that were almost round in shape and had lovely deep blue eye colour and good birman expression. The coat was very soft and with a silky texture. It was of medium length with a short ruff and was a pale beige shade with a hint of a golden hue over her shoulders. The mask almost covered the face fully and was a good seal brown shade but showing very slight brindling over the eyes. It matched the other points in shade but the upper part of the limbs were slightly paler. Her tail was in proportion to the body length and was well feathered. The foot markings were clean and white and she had matching gloves that were very slightly scalloped and just a little low. Socks were of good length and were almost matching having the left one just slightly shorter than the right while the gauntlets were symmetrical and matching and tapered nicely to a point towards the hock. A very attractive girl who was well presented, in good condition and to whom I was pleased to be able to give an award.

Blue Point Birman Adult

1 CC and BOB McGowan’s CH BULLAMOOR SKY DREAMER
2 Black’s BAYGAZER LIZZARABLUEJEANS

A very pretty blue point girl that I have judged before as a kitten and who is now just newly adult being barely nine months old and now needing to mature further but she has plenty of time on her side. A fairly well grown girl with a firm body of medium length and with good boning. Medium height legs with short rounded paws supported her body and her head was well rounded. Her medium length nose had a slight dip at the nasal bridge and a very slight bump at its tip and a fully formed slate grey nose leather. The cheeks were fairly full and rounded and the face was needing to widen further. A firm chin was slightly tapered and balanced the upper part of the face while the bite was level. The ears sited on top of the head were well spaced apart and were of medium size and were a blue grey shade that matched the other points well. Her eyes were bright and alert, almost round in shape, of a good size and with good fairly deep blue eye colour and sweet expression. A well formed mask, forming a pleasing diamond shape, almost covered the face fully and was a bluish grey shade. The body was a very clear, glacial white and the coat was soft with a very silky texture and was long and full with a good ruff still developing. Her tail was of medium length and was fluffy and soft. All four feet had clean pure white paws. The gloves were perfectly matching on the upper side of the paw but on the underside the right one was longer reaching just to the side of the stopper pad but not beyond. Both socks were perfectly level and symmetrical and covered the feet very well but the gauntlets were not quite matching with the right on being longer and of a narrower width. A well groomed girl with a very quiet gentle nature.

3 Lamb’s ADSETLO BEATRICE BLUE

A blue pointed girl who was two years and eight months old. She was not in best condition on the day as she appeared to be calling and had a medium length body that was just a little light in weight at present, supported on firm , medium height legs that had short rounded paws. Medium size head which was rounded and had well placed ears that were sited far apart on top and which were of medium size. Her nose had a slight dip in profile with a slate grey nose leather. She had good cheek width with cheeks that were well rounded, a fairly firm chin and a good level bite. The eyes were large, a little round in shape, with excellent deep blue colour and were bright and had a lovely expression. The coat was fairly short on the day and was very soft and had a silky texture. It was a bluish glacial white and was shady over the lower back region but contrasted well with the points which were a well matching blue grey colour. The mask was covered the face fully and matched the ears in shade very well. The feet were clean and pure white. Her gloves were well matching on the upper surface but the left glove reached just to the stop. The socks were level, covering the foot well and matching. The gauntlets were pointed and short, of different lengths and not quite matching. A girl with a very sweet, lovable and friendly nature who was well presented.

1 McGowan’s ESAYA DREAMLOVER OF DYFRIG

A really handsome chocolate birman boy that I have admired before. Now ten months old, he is a young adult and is maturing very well and will get even better as time goes on. Well formed head that had plenty of width and was rounded with medium size ears that had good ear placement, being set well apart. Correct dip to profile with a medium length nose that had a fully formed dark chocolate nose leather. Full rounded cheeks with a full chin that tapers nicely and a perfect level bite. Good eye shape that was almost round and had mid to deep blue eye colour and a lovely birman expression. His body was firm and well muscled with good boning and strong legs and clothed in a soft long coat that had a lovely silky texture of ivory white. It was very clear and free of shadiness and ended with a medium length well furnished tail that was slightly brindled and paler than the other points which were a dark chocolate rather than a milk chocolate shade. The points contrasted very well with the pale body colour and were just a touch paler on the legs. He had good gloves that were matching and slightly scalloped with the left one having a slightly irregular edge on the side of his paw. The socks were almost matching with the right one marginally longer and both gauntlets were almost matching and tapered neatly two thirds the distance towards the hock with one that had a slight blip at its tip. 2 Davidson’s SHAWCOON DUSK TILL DAWN

A fifteen month old mackerel tortie tabby and white maine coon girl. Well grown girl of large size with a long body which had a rectangular shape, broad chest and a long neck and ending with a fairly square rump. Substantial legs had large round paws with white feet on all four legs and with feathered paws. Head was of medium length and she had a rather straight profile with the nose somewhat lacking in a curve at the nasal bridge and having a full pink nose leather. The muzzle was white and had a fairly square shape with a firm chin and cheeks that were filling out still needing high cheek bones. Her ears showing both red and black colouring were not very tall but were well tufted and were needing to sit prouder on the head but were wide open at the base. The eyes were full and round and had greenish eye colour with a slight oblique setting. Her tail was long and well furnished reaching easily to the shoulders and tapering gently towards the tip. The coat was short on her head and neck and longer on her tummy and breeches but today was rather straggly and not in show condition. Tortie colours of black and red were bright over the head and body but she was a little grubby and not well presented which let her down on the day.

She had a lovely long full coat of pale fawn which contrasted well with the points and was very soft and silky in with a full ruff around the neck and framing her face and with slightly curly texture on her underside. The tail balanced the body and was of medium length, very bushy and had tortie colours visible. Foot markings were pure white. The gloves were matching but slightly scalloped on the upper surface but one glove was slightly longer on the underside. The socks were matching and covered the entire foot and the gauntlets were wide, of equal lengths but one was slightly more pointed and almost reaching to the hock. A very lovely girl with a very pleasing nature who was a poppet to handle and who was beautifully presented.

Chunky solid body shape which was cobby with a thick short neck and a broad chest with a well rounded rump set on short stocky legs. The nose was very short with a very strong stop and a very small blue nose leather and small nasal openings. Well rounded eyes that were large and bold had good orange colour. Fat chubby cheeks, a wide muzzle, a deep chin and a not quite level bite. The coat was in excellent shape being dense and felt very thick and plush and was a dark shade of blue. 2 Chalmer’s CATSROOL MULAN

Unfortunately, when we reached this girl she refused to be handled and was very upset and so was left so as to stop her spoiling her chances at future shows. A blue pointed bicolour ragdoll who had very sweet features with good head width with what appeared to be a flat plane. Medium ears with rounded tips were sited well on the head and she had a medium length nose with a slight dip in profile and a good retrousee tip. Large eyes had mid blue eye colour and her cheeks were fairly full, the chin was firm but the bite was not seen. I hope that she calms down in future as she seemed to have good type.
