Bedford and District Cat Club ShowSaturday 25th April 2009Non-Pedigree SectionStephanie BeirneUnfortunately Gill Allen was unable to attend so I was delighted to be asked to step in and judge these lovely exhibits. There was a really super selection of well presented and friendly cats. Many thanks also to Emma Matthews for her considerate handling of the exhibits and attention to detail. OPEN CLASSES BLACK OR WHITE ADULT1. Macoy’s SNOW DROP ( Short Hair - White) FN 1yr 10mthsShe has a pure white coat with a pretty pearlised effect, no markings anywhere. Her coat was very well presented, clean and sparkling and has a slight plume to her tail. She feels heavier than expected, a nice muscular feel to her but her best feature is her wonderful amber eyes. Super temperament. 2. Potter’s BILLY BEAN (Semi-Long Hair - Black) MN 10yrsHe has a black glossy thick coat with a lovely tail plume which he held aloft for added effect. His neck ruff is slightly tinged with grey now which only adds character. I particularly liked the feathering between his paws. He was very well groomed and a cool, calm and collected chap. AC TABBY or TABBY & WHITE ADULT One entrant1. Brown’s LEO (Short Hair - Blue Tabby) MN 1yr 11mthsHe has beautiful classic tabby markings with delicious and unusual colour combination. He was exquisitely well groomed; his coat was very shiny and soft. Bright amber eyes of lovely shape. An alert and confident cat. Excellent presentation, well done to his exhibitor. TORTIE OR TORTIE & WHITE ADULT One entrant1. Tolhurst’s HEIDI (Short Hair - Tabby/Tortie/White) FN 5yrs 6mthsLovely red tabby tortie with a very pretty head. She has the sweetest little nose break and small ear tufts which set off her face. Her white parts were sparkling clean and highlighted her yellow eyes. She purred constantly both in and out of her pen. Well presented exhibit. AC HALF PEDIGREE ADULT One entrant1. Maskell’s HUGO (Short Hair - Silver Tabby Point) MN 9 yrsHe pretended to be shy in his pen but once out he headbumped us both with affection. He has a super soft short wavy coat which felt like pleated cotton wool. The unusual silver tabby markings gave a wonderful spotted effect on top of his head. He has excellent firm muscle tone for his age and wonderfully long legs. Well presented. MISCELLANEOUS CLASSES AC LH/SH ADULT UNDER 3 YRS Fabulous class with seven exhibits1. Brown’s MATILDA (Short Hair - Blue) FN 1 yr 11mthsShe has a very shiny blue coat with a pearly lustre which was groomed to perfection and pale yellow eyes with sweet erect ears. She was very calm on the trolley but alert to everything going on around her. She showed herself off very well, a real showgirl. First class presentation, congratulations to her exhibitor. 2. Richard’s KEVIN THEKOUNTRYKAT (Short Hair - Ginger and White) MN 2 yrs 7 mthsHas a deep, rich ginger coat with mackerel tabby stripes and perfect tabby head markings. Nice white shoes and deep amber to copper coloured eyes. His coat is extremely soft to touch, well groomed. He was very calm on the table and showed himself off to perfection. 3. Macoy’s SNOW DROP X3 Brown’s LEOAC LH/SH VETERAN ADULT OVER 7 YEARS One entrant1. Potter’s DUKE (Short Hair - Ginger and White) MN 12 yrsOlder exhibit of a military bearing, with a large noble head. He marched on parade, took the salute then stood to ease. Bright ginger tabby markings set off by shiny white gloves and boots. Also a very fine set of forward curving whiskers. He seemed to know exactly what was required of him, a true professional. Very well turned out, did not look anything like his 12 yrs. AC LH/SH KITTEN 6-9 mths1. Swingler’s VELVET ( Short Hair - Brown Ticked Tortie Tabby) F 6 mthsLively athletic girl, very strong and lithe with superb muscle tone. She has a super soft sleek coat with excellent dark ticking, interspersed with tortie patches of lighter brown/red. She also has wonderful stripy pantaloons. She was very affectionate and playful out of her pen, bags of character. Very well presented both in condition and temperament. I was surprised to find out later that this was her first show. My choice for BIS kitten, very well deserved. 2. Brock’s PATCHYLYPSO (Long Hair - Smokey Grey Tortie) FN 9 mthsA devastatingly pretty girl, long pale grey coat tipped with black and with pink and cream tortie shading. Her coat was long, soft and silky and very well groomed. Her pinkish head markings made her look as if she was wearing her tiara. Lovely full set of whiskers set off her baby doll face. A proper little princess who was unlucky to meet the winner in this class. AC LH/SH KITTEN NEVER BEEN SHOWN BEFORE One entrant1. Swingler’s VELVETAC LH/SH ADULT WITH SLEEKEST COAT1. Maruszewska’s PEARL (Short Hair - Blue) FN 5 yrsA very confident and calm girl. Soft in texture, her blue coat very well groomed. Pleasingly symmetrical head shape highlighted by super amber/green eyes and an alert, intelligent expression. She has very soft velvet paws and a nice thick tail. A gentle soul who showed herself well. 2. Davidson’s PATCHES (Long Hair - Blue and White) MN 1 yrUnusual blue and white patched long hair. He has a very soft silky coat with a nicely plumed tail with an extra flag at the end. Super sweet temperament, wanted to be held and cuddled, then placed his tail around his face like a squirrel. A very happy chap who enjoyed his cuddles. Well groomed and presented. 3. Gillman’s SPUTNIK (Short Hair - Black) MN 9 mthsSlightly shy at first but relaxed when he was held tight and cuddled. He has an ultra shiny black coat with ghost tabby markings and fetching white bow tie and matching pants. Very well groomed and nicely presented. BEST GROOMED LH/SH KITTEN One entrant1.
