Teesside Cat Club Show - 28th August 2010 - Judge Mrs Liz Machin

Many thanks to the committee for the kind invitation to come up and judge at this friendly show again this year. As last year, I thoroughly enjoyed my day, and had some lovely exhibits to handle. My thanks as ever to Lois; my hard working steward on the day who I know also enjoyed meeting all of your lovely cats.

BLUE ADULT MALE

1st CC & BOB DARWAY VICTOR

This lad automatically strikes you as being superbly built and well structured for his age, of just over a year old. Lovely full, round head which is really very well matured and broad, and offers super British type. Broad width to balance between well set, neat ears. Excellent facial width and strong masculine, well filled fat cheeks, Large broad nose, balancing the facial width perfectly, well set fully rounded expressive eyes showing of deep copper hue. Level bite, firm chin. Lovely string broad chest smoothly blending through to a well built muscular strong deep torso which stands squarely on heavy boned short legs culminating in lovely fat round paws. Thick tail base leading through to a perfectly rounded tip at the end of a tail of correct length. A coat of slightly deeper blue, which is reasonably sound to the roots, short, and dense, and without any silver tipping. A very, very impressive lad, although I cannot imagine quite how much bigger he’s going to expand to when he’s a real ‘grown up’! Fortunately though, this lad had an outstandingly easy going and gentle temperament, so I think we’re going to be safe! An extremely promising young man, who I suspect is ‘going places’.

2nd CATTONWOOD SAM TYLER

A nicely grown young man, showing good development in keeping with his age. Good width between medium sized ears, well filled, already strong masculine head of good British type. Pleasing facial width, well set round eyes of super deep copper, but unfortunately, still showing a quite definite green rim at present; hopefully something which he may still yet grow out of ? Broad nose, level bite with noticeably red gums, which looked rather sore. Firm chin. Lovely broad chest leading naturally through to a very well grown strong, muscular body, which stands firmly mounted on fairly heavy boned legs with round paws. Correct tail with a rounded tip. Fantastic short, tight, amazingly crisp coat, just fractionally longer in length along the spine line, of good density which is of a medium blue tone, and was reasonably sound to the roots. Just a little shy at being handled, but with patience, we managed to have a good look at him without any upset. Still just a juvenile at a little over a year old, and with all of the structural, type, and coat basics very firmly established, another promising boy, who will hopefully continue to grow through his residual teenage issues.

A/C COLOURPOINTED (EX CINNAMON & FAWN) ADULT FEMALE

1ST CC & BOB DIXYLAN PRINCESS IDA

An extremely well developed and most appealing young girl of ten and a half months of age. Good basic fully rounded British head shape which is showing quite pleasing development so early into young adult status. Slightly narrow width for complete balance separates her well set neat medium ears, eyes of a good medium even toned blue, are reasonably rounded, broad nose, well filled chubby cheeks, supporting her facial balance nicely. This lass still has her kitten-like prominent puffy whisker pads at present, which she was quite insistent on wiggling about in all manner of different poses! Scissor, acceptable bite, slightly fleshy chin. Well developed, stocky strong little body standing firmly on medium boned legs which end in quite tiny neat rounded paws. Lovely broad tail of correct length, with a rounded tip. This little lady had the most wonderful and impressive coat for her age, being superbly short, dense, and with a crisp texture to die for! Good even medium blue toned points discreetly, yet quite clearly extremely well decorated with unmistakable tabby markings. Super facials, good leg bars, with just a little toning present to her flanks, which actually to me, quite complemented the whole colour/pattern combination of the cat. A super stocky youngster, with the weight to back up her already very broad, deep body. A super temperament who was an absolute delight to meet.

ALSO CONSIDSERED FOR BOB: CAT NUMBER 126

Looking a little less than I suspect was her best today, possibly having either spent the summer with, or wanting kittens? Good British type and structure, with a lovely broad face showing very appealing clear facial tabby markings over a good points colour. Just a little thin in her coat, and a touch lightweight for her size at present

SMOKE KITTEN

1st & BOB LEONITARA GYPSY-ROSE

Well, unsurprisingly for a smoke baby, this was one very little lady as yet, with one major sized attitude!! Nicely balanced girl, showing good width to balance between, as yet, quite tall oversized ears. Super expressive bold amazingly deep copper eyes, which are fully rounded, and of good set. Broad nose, showing a slightly deep break, or bump, dependant on which way you look at it, with a cute tiny pink spot to her nose leather. Really pleasing facial width present already, which balances her face nicely. Level bite, fairly firm chin. Broad chest leading through to a well shaped stocky muscular little body of good depth which is well weighted. All four of her slightly oval rather than fully rounded paws were broken with colour, with the left hind foot showing a largish area of unbroken colour as yet. Well boned legs. Correct tail, with rounded tip. Kitten soft coat of a fair length which is fairly dense. Good combination of jet black infused by a mixture of very deep, rich reds, together with paler, more subtle reds. Quite solid red chin, with a small black ‘strap’ breaking this from her rich, and paler red chest. Super, clear bright silver undercoat, offering an excellent contrast to the top coat, this being most evident to the forehead, and feet areas at present, but something which will continue to develop with her as she ages. Sweet, yet forthright temperament, she really is a most attractive, and appealing lass, and it is so nice to actually see a smoke, and a good one at that, out on the show bench. Well done!

A/C BRITISH PREMIER NEUTER MALE.

1ST, GRPC WITHELD. PR KINSONKITZ MOONSHINE

A large framed boy, but on the day, without either the physical weight or muscular feel to match up with his impressive body size. Well rounded head with good width between medium sized ears. Nose of medium breadth showing a slight bump when viewed in profile. Level bite, with just three of his upper teeth remaining. He has quite angular facial shape, which may be as a result of early neutering perhaps? Medium boned legs with reasonably rounded paws. Tail appeared correct from what I saw of it properly. Medium even tipping on the coat, with the tipping just a little heavier along the spine line. Fair length and quite good density and texture. Unfortunately, he was really very unhappy on the day, and obviously rather resented being approached at all, resulting in my not being able to do as full an assessment of him as I would have liked. Sorry.

BLUE NEUTER FEMALE FOR BOB ONLY:

BOB TO VALPETINA GR.PR. SOLITARE

Such an appealing girl, she has so much to offer, both in terms of her outstanding strong British type, evidenced by a beautifully rounded, full mature head, which is perfectly balanced, and has lovely eye shape and set; the eyes being of quite outstanding deepest copper through to a truly massive sized body of good depth, and almost equal width, with more than imagined weight to balance, although much of this is pure muscle. Super plush even medium blue coat, virtually sound to the roots, just a little soft to the touch, but in fairness, she is a neuter, and obviously a much loved one at that, and with pleasing length and density. A super ultra relaxed girl who was very self assured and easy to handle.

CREAM NEUTER FEMALE

BOB TO CAT NUMBER 143

A nice sized lad, who was just so very chilled out that he could barely even be bothered to stand up to come out to be assessed. Good fully rounded head showing pleasing British type, nice width to balance between neat medium sized ears which sit snugly into the contours of the head. Lovely brilliant copper eyes of nice shape and set, broad nose, level bite firm chin, with just a little square to the general muzzle shape. Broad chest, well grown muscular stocky body, weighted well to balance, but surprisingly, not quite as heavy as anticipated. Medium boned legs and nicely rounded paws. Correct tail. Beautiful pale even cream coat which is generally sound to the roots, showing just a few feint ghost markings. Nice length, density and quite crisp texture

1st & PC TO CAT NUMBER 144

A massive framed female with plenty of weight and muscle to match! Lovely full round head of good British type. Medium width between neat ears which fit the contours of her head well. Slightly flat top line to otherwise well rounded eyes of a medium depth of clear copper. Broad nose, and just a very small nose break present. Excellent facial width, with the face well balanced and filled by her really chubby apple cheeks. Level bite, slightly fleshy chin. Super broad chest leading through to a massive body standing very sturdily on short, heavy boned legs finished off by stonking great full fat round paws. Tail of correct length, with a rounded tip. Lovely even toned cream of coloured coat which is reasonably sound to the roots. Most pleasing density, length, and fair texture. A really very impressive girl for her structure and balance, with such good type and maturity. She was a little towards grumpy today, although with such an impressive set of attributes, she failed to dissuade me from awarding her a PC!
