Teeside Cat Club Show August 28th 2010 Show Report from Shar Crichton

My thanks to the show mangers Veda and Betty and the club for the invitation and hospitality. A most enjoyable day among friends and lovely felines at this well run show. I was pleased to see my nomination for best in show, a lovely tortie birman girl, won overall best in show semi longhair exhibit. Congratulations! To Nev Gibbon I send my grateful thanks for his careful handling of the cats and his cheerful company on the day. I will look forward to working together again.

Imperial Class – AC Persian Gr PR Neuter Male

1 Imp White’s I GR CH and I GR PR MARDISGRAS THECANDY MANCAN

A five year old well seasoned show cat and a highly acclaimed cream and white boy who was, as usual, in fabulous condition and who never batted an eyelid at being handled. He knows he is a special chap and just lies there waiting to be admired. Huge and heavy he needed his double pen to stretch out to his full body length. Massive very broad top of head with well set neat ears placed far apart. Eyes were large and rounded in shape with good copper eye colour for his age. Very short nose with a strong break and a pink nose leather and generous size nasal openings. Broad muzzle with fat chubby cheeks and a very strong chin with a scissor bite. Wonderful beautifully prepared long, full coat that was soft and very dense. Body was mainly white and he had cream patches strategically placed below both ears. The tail was short and fully plumed. All credit to his owner for keeping him in such excellent condition.

AC Persian Non-Self Champion adult Female

Two quality cats with excellent type entered in this class both deserving a Grand certificate and a very difficult choice to choose between them. In the end, coat length and condition was the deciding factor but on another day, the decision could well be reversed.

1 GR CC Nicholas’s CH QUARTET INSPIRATION

A well built girl brown tabby and white girl with a very cobby shape, broad chest and well rounded rump set low on short thick legs with well rounded fat paws. Excellent width to head which was tabby on the top and carried small well set ears. Broad face with large rounded eyes with lovely deep copper colour. Very short nose with a strong nose break and a full nose leather. The right side of the face was tabby pattern and the left one was half white. Her cheeks were full and she had a fat muzzle and a scissor bite. The chin was white and deep which balanced the upper part of the face. Her coat was long and very full and flowing with fluffy trousers and a full frill. Body was totally white with a sparkling white neck, bib and underside and all four feet were white with paw pads that had little tiny black spots. Her tabby regions clearly showed black lines over a rich sable agouti base. The tail was very short and very full and was totally coloured but it was hard to distinguish any clear tabby rings. A good natured girl who was beautifully presented and in excellent show condition.

Reserve Thornburn’s CH ALINDAS PASTAL CONFETTI

Another delightful girl, a blue cream tabby and white, with lovely facial type and expression. Cobby build set low on short legs with excellent head type. Very broad top of head, bonnet shaped, with neat ears spaced well apart that had long ear feathers. Lovely large round eyes with good copper colour and very sweet expression. Very short snub nose with a small pink nose leather. Full cheeks, very chubby, with a deep strong chin and a scissor bite. She was white over the muzzle and chin and had white paws and underside. The coat was not very long and flowing but beautifully prepared with every single hair separate and like a full blown powder puff. The coat was soft and dense and had intermingled blue and cream markings on a beige agouti ground. A gentle girl with a lovely friendly temperament who was beautifully presented.

Black or Chocolate Smoke Adult

1st only. CC withheld Simm’s MYZANY EL CAPISTRANO

A young male, not yet fully mature, being only eleven months old, who was undergoing changes from adolescence to adulthood at this time. He has very good type with a firm solid body that was cobby in shape and supported on low set, thick legs with large rounded paws that were well feathered. Very pleasing head type with a broad top and well placed ears of small size that had very long silvery ear feathers. Huge saucer shaped eyes with lovely expression and with orange eye colour that was still changing and should be very good later. Very short nose that was nice and broad with a full black nose leather and good size nostrils. Fat cheeks with a broad muzzle and a strong chin with a good level bite. The mask was still developing and needing to darken further. The tail was short and was not at its fullest at this time. His coat was very short and was a fairly dense black on the upper two thirds of the hair shaft with the base of the hair being the correct ash white in places but also showed some darkening at the roots in a few places which indicated that the coat was still changing. There was tiny spots of tarnishing on the face and body and the coat felt a little greasy to touch and not in show condition on the day which, I regret, was the reason for my withholding his certificate. Needing a little more time and maturity to reach his full potential and for his coat to improve. A boy with a super gentle temperament who was very relaxed when handled .

Chinchilla Adult

1 CC and BOB Ross’s MYSBO SUMMER SOLSTICE

A small fine boned girl, nearly a year and a half, who had good type. Very feminine and balanced in head and body. Cobby frame with a rounded rump set low on short legs. Round skull that was smooth and with ears set well apart, of small size and with silvery white ear furnishings. Very large eyes that were rounded and expressive with pleasing blue green eye colour and encircled with black liner. Short broad nose with a shallow nose break and a deep pink nose leather lightly outlined with black. Cheeks were fairly full but needing to fill out more. The muzzle was broad and she had a firm balanced chin with a very slightly undershot bite. The coat was long and full with a lovely long frill and a very short fluffy tail. Texture was soft and silky and had black tipping that was fairly even over the head and body only becoming slightly heavier over the rump. Her undercoat was a sparkling white as was the fur on her chin, bib and underside. The paws had black pads and were a little smudged. A sweet natured girl who was a little poppet when handled.

2 Gates’s MYSBO SILVER SECRET

A little older but with similar build, this chinchilla girl did not show herself off very well as she made us very aware that she did not want to be handled! Cobby body shape that was balanced and compact on short sturdy legs. Good skull width with ears that were fairly neat and widely spaced and had long silvery white ear feathers. Broad flat face with shapely large round eyes had blue green colour that was deeper colour in the centre and pencilled with black pigment and with an open clean expression. Short nose with a shallow nose break had a small pink nose leather that was rather pale and had a faint outline of black pigment. She had full cheeks, a fairly firm chin and a perfect level bite. The chin, bib, chest and underside were pure white and her coat was long and very full with a good frill. It felt soft and silky in texture and was lightly tipped over her back but with a slight hint of tarnishing on her rump. She had and fluffy trousers and slightly yellow staining on her bottom. The tail was short and well furnished and had slightly heavier tipping on its dorsal surface. The paw pads were black and the paw undersides were a little smudgy.

 Bi-Coloured Adult

1 CC and BOB Hacking’s BALOOBOO WILLHAVENO MERCY

A black and white girl just over a year old with pleasing type. Medium body size that was solid and cobby in shape with short thick legs. Square head shape with ears which could have been neater, wide set and with good ear feathers. Sweet apple face with noticeable large round shaped eyes that had good copper colour and pleasing expression. Cheeks were fairly full and the muzzle was broad and had long white whiskers. A short up-turned nose had a clear break and a full black nose leather. Very strong chin with a scissor bite. She was mainly black over the top of head and body but had a white muzzle and chin. The coat was of a good length and was soft and silky texture. The black regions were sound being free of white hairs and dense while the white areas were clean and sparkling. Her tail was short and well furnished. The bib and underside of the body were white and she had four legs with pure white socks. A very friendly cat who was easy to handle.

Bi-Coloured Kitten

1 and BOB Hacking’s BALOOBOO BIG BIRTHA

Another attractive black and white kitten from the same cattery as the adult female and who was very cute and with cheeky face markings which gave her face plenty of character. She was just old enough to be at the show and was a delight to handle as she was game for a bit of play! She had good type with a compact and very cobby body shape with short little legs. Good head type which was broad with small well placed ears that were totally black. She had large eyes which were fully round and with the colour still developing and which look as though they will be very good later. A very short snub nose had a clear break and a full black nose leather with two black spots just under her nostrils over her white muzzle which looked as though she needed a hanky! The cheeks were white and she had a firm white chin and a scissor bite. The coat was long, full and of a good length and was white on her bib and underside and all four feet were white. Her tail was short and bushy and was totally black. A promising kitten with plenty of personality.

Chocolate or Lilac Point Birman Adult Male

 1 CC Russell’s KENDALIAN ROMULUS

A large lilac point birman boy who was not quite one year old but who was well built and has good birman type. Strong skull shape that was broad and round with a medium length nose that had a slight dip in profile and a full lilac nose leather. Full rounded cheeks of good width with an adequate chin. Good placement of ears which were of medium size and were spaced well apart. Almost round eyes that were large and had deep blue colour that were deeper in the centre. Muscular body of good weight and length on medium height thick set legs that had strong short paws. The coat was of medium length and was silky in texture and was a clear magnolia white with pinkish grey lilac points. The mask was clearly defined and still developing and matched the colour of the ears very well while the limbs and tail were a little paler in shade. A ruff had started to develop but was not yet fully developed and the tail was bushy and in proportion to the body length. He had clean white gloves which were a little short and were slightly sloping to the sides of his paws, not being a straight line across. On the undersides, the white gloves just reached the stop and in contact with the paw pads. He had well matching socks and excellent matching gauntlets which ran two thirds the distance towards the hock. A boy with a lovely nature who was so easy to handle and pleased to have some attention from us.

Foot markings were a clean white and she had well matching gloves that were a touch low and were slightly scalloped. The socks were perfectly matched and symmetrical and her gauntlets were long and tapered neatly to a point near the hock. A promising girl who had a delightful sweet nature.

She is a large girl with a firm solid body of good weight supported by strong legs of medium height and with short strong paws. Needing to grow in to them as she matures. Large round eyes with muddy eye colour that was still changing and not yet fixed. Broad very short snub nose with a strong nose break. Muzzle a little pinched at present due to teething no doubt, strong chin and a scissor bite. The face was half red and half black with white on the left part of the muzzle. The coat was not at all dense or plush at present and did not stand out well from the body as she still had a kitten coat. A very short tail that was a little fluffy and fully coloured. A sweet kitten with a happy temperament.

Greenish eyes gave good focus to the face and were large, rounded and set slightly oblique and outlined with paler tabby spectacles. The coat was long and shaggy on the trunk and she had a full ruff and good breeches with a glossy top coat but was shorter over the head and neck regions. The colour was a warm copper agouti ground overlaid with classic black tabby markings which were all present over the head, face and body. Her tail was very long and flowing reaching easily to the shoulders and tapering towards the tip. A lovely girl with lots of promise who I hope to meet again sometime in the future.
