National Cat Club 29.11.08
Mrs Val Anderson
Thanks to Carol & Ron for the invite. It felt strange driving to Bracknell after many years of travelling on the Wessex CC coach to the show in London. Despite the clash with the Supreme there was a good entry and some quality cats to judge. I am very grateful to Jo Whittington for stewarding; I enjoyed our day together and look forward to our next engagement together.
OPEN CLASSES
ORIGINAL FOREIGN CHAMPION MALE
1ST (GCC WITHHELD) PEARCE’S CH SILLOC SERGIE (16a) M 13.05.03 Russian Blue
A large mature boy of 5½ years who was rather shy though not difficult to handle. Masculine head with a flat skull & short wedge, good angle & profile. Level bite & strong chin, prominent whisker pads. Lots of width between his ears which could be larger & they are set at an angle rather than vertically to the head; I gave him plenty of chances but he didn’t put them up. Eyes a little full but of a lovely deep green colour. Rather heavy body, he obviously likes his food! Elegant limbs & tapering tail. Coat soft, dense & double, pale overall colour with lots of silvery sheen though he has a darker spine line & the colour pales at the roots. Certificate withheld because of his ear set.
ORIGINAL FOREIGN CHAMPION FEMALE
GCC THOMSON’S CH GLASNOST MIMI (16a) F 29.05.06 Russian Blue
A pretty girl of 2½ years who was very easy to handle. Lovely Russian expression with a flat skull, short wedge & prominent whisker pads. Good angle but shallow concave curve to the profile, good chin & level bite. Large vertically set ears & almond-shaped eyes of a good green colour though they are set a touch deep. Long elegant body though I would prefer more muscle tone, slender limbs with small oval paws & long tapering tail to balance. Plushy double coat of an even medium blue though it could be sounder & I would prefer more silvery sheen. A happy contented girl.
BROWN SPOTTED BENGAL ADULT, MALE
4 males entered, all with an easy going nature which was good to see.
1ST CC RICHMOND-WATSON’S OWLSDENE MR DARCY (76 30) M 15.11.07
A young well-grown boy of only 12 months. Broad head of medium length with good width between the ears. Large nose & broad muzzle. Shallow concave curve to the profile, OK chin & level bite. Well-set ears of medium size & large oval eyes of a greeny colour. Strong muscular body, long & sleek with limbs to balance but his tail is a touch long and tapering. Short soft & reasonably dense coat with a nice feel to the touch. Lovely contrast between the spotted pattern of large rosetted spots & rich golden base. Spotted tummy & ringed tail with a dark tip. Shown in lovely condition & easy to handle.
2ND ALGER-STREET’S TYPHAST METEORSTRIKE (76 30) M 01.12.05
A strong masculine boy of not quite 3 years. Head a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with good width between the ears. Large nose but I would prefer a little more breadth to his muzzle. Rounded chin that could be a little deeper & level bite. Wide-set ears with a broad base & rounded tips. Large greeny-coloured eyes of rounded oval shape. Long muscular body with strong limbs & large rounded paws but tapering tail. Soft coat with large rosetted spots on a pale golden base. Well-marked limbs & ringed tail with a dark tip. Shown in lovely condition, a gentle fellow who was easy to handle. Difficult to decide between this boy & the winner.
3RD WALKER’S GAYLEE SUNGOLD PHOENIX (76 30) M 04.11.07
An elegant young man of almost 13 months. Balanced head, a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with rounded contours. Large nose & broad muzzle but his profile is a touch straight. Level bite & rounded chin. Medium ears set wide apart with a broad base & rounded tips. Large expressive eyes of good shape & set. Long muscular body with elegant limbs & rounded feet. Good tail, thick & even and of medium length. Good markings but his coat is not at its best, rather thin on the body at present. Large arrowhead spots that are slightly rosetted. Good scarab markings, pale chin strap, lovely leg markings of spots & bars. Lovely temperament and easy to handle. I liked the look of this boy but let down by his coat today.
BOB ALGER-STREET’S CH TYPHAST HURRICANE (76 30) M 01.06.06
A strong masculine boy of 2 years shown in lovely condition. Head a broad medium wedge slightly longer than wide though his profile is a touch straight. Medium ears set wide apart & large oval eyes. Smallish ears that are set wide apart & held forward in profile. Large oval eyes set on a slant though they were a touch sore (due to an allergy apparently). Thick neck, muscular body & muscular limbs to balance with rounded feet. Medium length tail that tapers a little. Coat short & dense though she has some dandruff at present. Richer colour down the spine, paler on the flanks. Large arrowhead spots spaced well apart. Good chin strap & necklaces, spotted tummy and well-marked limbs.
2ND BULL’S CUDDLEMORE QUEEN MARUIA (76 30) F 08.04.07
A younger girl of 1½ years who looks young but is of a good weight for her size. Broad head of medium length slightly longer than wide. Large nose but a dip to the profile. Level bite. Medium but rather tall ears with a broad base & rounded tips. Large pale green eyes of oval shape set on a slight slant. Long muscular body with limbs to balance but her tail tapers a little. Dense coat clearly spotted with small spots that could be more arrowhead in shape, spine line still breaking up. Rich golden colour to the base coat but coloured chin. She head a bit of a grumble but was OK to handle.
3RD DONALD & BRADLEY’S ZAWADI BARBURY BELLE (76 30) F 20.01.08
Only 10 months of age & the youngest in the class, she needs to mature. Head of medium length & longer than wide, it needs to broaden. Her ears are set a little upright, rather large & tall at present though with a broad base & rounded tips. Very expressive eyes, large & of a lovely clear greeny colour. Long body, the muscle needs to harden, with limbs to balance & moderately long tail. Soft dense coat, darker overall colour with a golden base to the underparts. Large arrowhead spots on the body, well-marked limbs & ringed tail. OK to handle.
BLUE ABYSSINIAN NEUTER
1ST PC & BOB PATEY’S CH & PR MYCENE BLUE JADE (23c) FN 06.03.01
An older girl of 7 years shown in lovely condition and of a good weight for her age. Good head, a moderate wedge with good width between the ears though her muzzle could be a little broader. Slight nose break in profile & whisker indentation behind the muzzle. Cupped ears set wide apart & very expressive eyes of a clear green colour with lovely pale “spectacles”. Elegant & muscular body of medium build & size with limbs & tail to balance. Dense coat that could be finer & it is a touch soft. Lovely warm colour to the underparts but paler base coat on the body with a slight mushroom tinge & the blue ticking could be more clearly defined. Darker spine line & blue tail tip but rather heavy though well-broken double necklets. This girl has a lot of charm, some faults but it all comes together in a cute package and she is a pleasure to judge.
LAPERM NEUTER
1ST IC & BOB NICHOLS’S ULURU B C OMASTE P O (80L 22c) FN 31.03.99
A very well-fed lilac tortie & white girl of nearly 10 years who obviously loves her food! Broad head, a modified wedge with slightly rounded contours. Moderate whisker break & full whisker pads. Good profile, deep firm chin & level bite with lovely teeth especially for her age. Well-set moderately large ears & large eyes set wide apart & on a slant. Well-fed body that makes her tail appear a little short for balance but it has a full plume. Unstructured springy coat that stands away from the body, soft to the touch but a little greasy at the base. Lots of curls & long curly ear muffs. No points for colour but attractive tortie pattern of lilac & cream patches with white.
