Being our first Tica show, we were a little nervous, but at the same time looking forward to seeing a new style of show. Vetting in was quick and soon we were introduced to our mentor, Nicky, who explained the set up, and then throughout the day, gave us encouragement and assistance! I was surprised to see that most exhibitors had their own "sturdi" pens to keep the cats in, these are soft foldaway pens with hammocks for the cats to sleep in! The colours and designs were a work of art themselves! We found ourselves penned in-between a lady from Austria, and a man from Belgium, both had driven over to the show with their cats. Our first ring was nerve racking, our cream spotted oriental long hair, Mango, was put into his ring pen, and then we sat in the audience to watch. The judge was very quick, yet very thorough, and before long had placed a Best Colour, Best Division and Best Breed ribbon on his pen. His number was turned over signalling we could return him to his own pen. We then took Mango to the other five rings when he was called, again achieving the colour, division and breed. Before long we heard a call for the Allbreed Alter final in the first ring we had been in, rushing over to the ring we were delighted to see his number was on display! Mango had made his first final. The judge (a very stylish lady from France), began to introduce her top ten alters of the day in reverse order!! The suspense was incredible! When she got to the third best, we realised that Mango had not only made a final, he had also finished in the top 3! He finished 2nd in that ring! What an achievement for our first show! As we returned to our holding pen, our mentor told us that Mango was now a Champion, having achieved the necessary points, plus a final placement! A smart Champion rosette was awarded. Before the end of day one, Mango had achieved all 6 finals! A very rare achievement for any cat, and been placed 2 x 2nds, 2 x 3rds, a fourth and a sixth! He was also now a Double Grand Champion Alter. Day two, and we were really looking forward to the show. Mango's achievements increased, again finalled in all six rings, he was awarded two BEST CAT, a third, fourth, fifth and a sixth. All against really high quality cats of other breeds! Mango finished the weekend on over 2500 points, making him a Quadruple Grand Champion Alter. This is the highest a cat can go at it's first show, the next stage being a Supreme which is a very hard challenge! All the points then go towards regional and world rankings, running a season from May to April each year. All in all, not only did we have a fantastic result for our boy, but we had so much fun. The atmosphere was wonderful, the judges, the competitors, and the visitors all enjoying our cats and having fun! Can't wait to go again!
