MONTH ONE REPORT

Sue - North West England
Dyson DC23 Allergy

Dyson_DC23_Allergy.jpgI unwrapped from its box, assembly has never been my thing, but this was easy, only 2 parts to put together, everything on this model click snaps, the electric flex recoils into the main body.

It is my first Dyson; I love bagless cleaners but have always tended to go for a cheaper brand and usually an upright. I have thought about a cylinder for a long time as I am now down to one carpet in the house (stairs & hall) with the invasion of the laminate floor. I love the idea that it folds away compact, like a lot of people I hate my vacuum cleaner being part of the décor, the stowaway does just that and folds down and fits in a small cupboard under my stairs.

The DC23 is very quiet. You attach the telescopic head to the hose and off you go, the DC23 has a very hi-tech look and my teenage son did comment he thought it could strap to my back and I would not look out of place in any sci-fi movie.

I started on a rug first and was amazed at the suction power of this cleaner. It glides easy over the surfaces both wood & carpet, in the past cylinder cleaners were a workout not this one I am afraid you will need to keep up the gym subscription as the vacuum does the work not you. I like the idea of “stepping” on the cleaning head to switch the brushes this avoids scratching of wooden/laminate floors. I then changed to the small cleaning head to tackle my sofa, and it easily picks up my five cats' fine silky long hair, unlike other cleaners I have tried. It comes with a range of attachments which are easy to fit and remove (all click snap). I have a chocolate coloured sofa and I was amazed how vibrant it made the fabric appear. I was very keen to see just was hiding in my carpet, the canister removes very easily and opening is easy (unlike some bagless cleaners!) I was amazed at the “dust debris and hair” this cleaner had picked up. It has a HEPA (anti-allergen) filter, a lot of vacuums have the HEPA action, I have in the past used uprights with this function, and I did notice the lack of “dust” being expelled into the air. It will be interesting to see how much dust settles back into my carpet again.

Tackling the stairs was quiet easy, the hose has a reach of nearly 7ft but it was also happy to perch on the stair, my knees keeping the vacuum secure. It tackled the edge dust build up with ease….

I have been using my Dyson for 6 weeks now and I am really enjoying using this vacuum, it’s not too heavy to lift at approx 18lb. It certainly picks up the dust & cat hair from my carpet & upholstery and does not appear to re-circulate that dust in the air only to settle back into your carpet….the price tag of £200 plus is definitely worth the investment.
