Wiltshire and District Cat Club ShowJuly 4th 2009Show Report from Sharara CrichtonMy thanks to the show managers Jackie and Elaine, the club and the hardworking show committee for inviting me to this friendly and well run show. It was a glorious warm sunny day and the show ran smoothly enough for an early Best in Show finale and managed to finish early enough for everyone to enjoy the rest of the sunny weather. I had some lovely classes to judge and am grateful to Sylvia Richardson who came specially to steward for me and I thank her very much for her careful and gentle handling of the cats and for her pleasant companionship all day. OPEN CLASSESImperial Class – AC Persian GR CH Adult Male1mp Wall’s GR CH SHEERBLISS ENRICOA blue and white exotic boy who is over two years of age and who I have judged fairly recently. He is a large very well built cat with a solid heavy body that was set on strong muscular legs with large rounded paws. Body shape was cobby with a thick neck, broad chest and a well rounded rump. Great width of head with a strong skull shape that had a rounded forehead. He had well set ears of fairly small size with rounded tips that were spaced far apart. Full cheeks with a broad muzzle, a scissor bite and the chin was very deep and firm. The profile was correct with a very short nose that had a strong stop and a blue nose leather. Huge saucer shaped bold eyes had fabulous deep copper eye colour that does not come any deeper and with a wideawake expression. His coat was very thick and dense even though he had started to moult quite heavily. It felt soft to touch and was plush, of a mid blue shade and was sound throughout and was well prepared. He had a very short thick tail that was completely blue. Bicolour markings had neat edges and he was nicely marked on the head and body. There was an inverted chevron of white on the lower facial area which had lovely long white whiskers. He had an incomplete white collar around the neck and a long white patch running down the middle of his underside between his legs with a small blue patch on his tummy region. All four paws were pristine white and each one had a blue spot while his head and ears were blue and his back was covered with a fully blue covering. A real gentleman when handled and a worthy winner of the award. I understood later that he was made up to Imperial at this show. Congratulations! Reserve Le Monnier’s GR CH KASHIMA RUMTUMTUGGERA really handsome black exotic male who is not yet two years old and who has lovely type and who I feel is worthy of an imperial award but was unlucky to meet the winner on the day as he looked less mature at the present time and had not yet attained the body bulk and size of a fully fledged male but which will hopefully come with time. I loved his type which had beautiful balance to head and face. He had a broad top that was smooth and rounded with tiny well set ears with rounded edges that were placed far apart. He had stunning bold eyes that were fully round and very large with fabulous deep copper colour and lovely expression. Well developed full cheeks, a muzzle with plenty of width. The chin was strong and balanced the upper part of the face and he had a good scissor bite. Excellent profile which had a very short turned up nose with a black nose leather and full size nostrils. Body shape was cobby and balanced, of medium size and was solid and firm. He had a short thick neck, a well rounded rump and was set low on short thick set legs which had short fat paws. The coat was soft in texture, fairly dense but was lacking a little in undercoat as he was in the process of moulting and hence not fully plush at this time of year. It was, however, in good condition, very shiny and was of a sound black shade with a short very thick tail. A gentleman when handled and a cat with good show manners. Seal Colourpoint Kitten1 and BOB Hammett and Coker’s SHOU JUBELLATIONA delightful kitten who was just four months old and who has lovely type with a well grown solid body shape that was very cobby and which could not have been more persian. Well balanced head and body supported on short dumpy legs. Pleasing head type which was well rounded and smooth and had good width between the ears which were very neat and had whispy ear feathers. Round eyes of large size had acceptable blue eye colour and sweet expression. Short snub nose had a good nose break and a seal brown nose leather. He had fat chubby cheeks, a muzzle that was developing width, a strong chin and a very slightly over shot bite at present which I think in time will be perfect. The coat was lovely and long with a full frill already present. It was soft and flowing and was a beautiful creamy white shade with very slight shadiness on his flanks. The tail was short and very bushy. The points were a good seal brown colour and were well matching in all the points with the mask developing well but not yet fully covering the face. A charming kitten who handled like a dream. A real poppet and was one for smuggling into my pocket! Tortie Colourpoint Kitten1 and BOB Hammett and Coker’s SHOU SAPPHIREA lilac cream kitten who has the same birth date as the best of breed winner and is possibly a litter sister. She appeared to be a smaller kitten possibly due to the fact that she did not have the same length of coat and so appeared a little thin. She had good type with a smooth top of head that was very broad and had well set ears of small size that were edged with lilac, with long ear feathering and were a touch open at the base. She had a short nose with a good break and a lilac nose leather. Her eyes were large and bold and had blue eye colour that was better than the male kitten and with a pleasing expression. The muzzle was developing width, her cheeks were filling out and she had a firm deep chin. The bite was slightly overshot and also may be perfect later when she get her adult teeth. She had a strong firm body with short thick legs and rounded short paws. The mask was just developing and had an area of bluish grey with cream on her nose leather which was not very pale, not exactly a lilac shade which made it hard to decide whether she was a lilac cream after all. The other points were a little pale and hard to distinguish. However the paw pads and nose leather were clearly the correct shade of lilac allowing for a final decision to be made. The coat was fairly long and soft and was a pale magnolia white shade with a short fluffy tail. A very friendly baby with a sweet nature who was happy to be handled. Blue or Lilac Tortie and White NeuterBOB Burnett’s IGR CH and GR PR LOMORAS RUBY TUESDAYA four year old blue cream and white girl with lovely type and very persian features having a very cobby shape that had a broad chest, rounded rump and short thick legs. The head was very well balanced with good width and a smooth rounded forehead. Her ears were of medium to small size and had long ear feathers and were sitting a little proud at present. Huge saucer shaped eyes that were fully round, very bold and with orange eye colour that I would have liked to be deeper but I realize that she is more than four years old and the eye colour may have faded a little with age. The cheeks were fat and plump and she had a wide muzzle and a strong blue chin with a perfect bite. A short nose had a good nose break and full size nostrils with a very pink small nose leather. The face was well patched being blue and cream on the top of head and the lower face region and muzzle was white. The body was mainly white but had a cream patch over the shoulders and a large cream and blue patch on the lower back region. Her bib and underside were fully white and she had fluffy trousers and a fully coloured blue and cream tail that were very bushy. The coat was very long and full and was perfectly prepared being soft and flowing and was a credit to the owner. A placid cat that was a pleasure to handle. Bi-Coloured NeuterBOB White’s IGR CH and IGR PR MARDIGRAS THECANDY MANCANA massive four year old cream and white boy that I have judged several times before and who is still in wonderful condition. I have little to add to my earlier reports as he has a huge body with strong tree trunk legs supporting his very cobby shape. He has a thick neck, broad chest and rounded rump and all well covered by a fabulous thick coat that was long and flowing with a great frill framing his face, fluffy trousers and a short and very fluffy tail. His coat was very soft in texture. Head shape was very broad, with widely spaced well feathered ears of small size. The eyes were rounded in shape and were large with a bold expression and good copper colour. A short snub nose that was broad and had a full size pink nose leather. Fat cheeks gave the face good width, the muzzle was broad and he had a strong balanced chin with a scissor bite. The face was mainly white with mid cream patches that were sound in colour just below the ears. A cream patch covered the shoulders while the main body was white apart from a large patch of cream over the lower rump region with four white feet. An impressive cat who was in excellent form and expertly presented. 1 and PC Perkins’s ZENITH BIGOLLYA black and white male who was over four years of age and who was of a good size and weight with a compact cobby body shape. He had a broad chest and well rounded rump, with a body set low on sturdy legs. Rounded head with good width between the ears which were fairly small and well settled on the skull. Very broad short nose had a strong stop and a very black nose leather. The eyes were rounded and large and had rather pale eye colour of orange with a faith green rim in the hall lights. The muzzle had good width and he had full cheeks. Adequate firm chin with a scissor bite. The lower face had a very definite inverted chevron which was white and he was a dense sound black over the top of head and back. The coat was long and full with fluffy trousers and a short well furnished tail. The bib and underside of the body were white and he had white paws which were a little grubby on the undersides. A pleasing exhibit who could have had better show preparation. 2 Davis’s TROUILLORD HEATWAVEA red and white boy who was nearing three years of age who had medium build, set on solid short legs. Body shape was cobby and firm with a rounded rump and good chest width. Well balanced head shape with good width and having neat red ears sited well apart on the skull and having white edges at the tips. Round eyes had somewhat pale eye colour which I would have liked to be deeper. Very broad short nose had a strong nose break and rather small nostrils. The face and cheeks had good width and had a white diamond shaped patch present on his forehead and a broad white muzzle and a strong red chin. The bite was slightly undershot. His coat was full and of a good length with the red areas showing a rich red shade. He had a lovely frill framing the face and had good red patches down his back, fluffy trousers with a red coloured tail which was short and very bushy. A gentle placid cat. Seal Point Birman Kitten Male1 Harris’s MENTOBE MR BRIGHTSIDEA three month old kitten who had pleasing birman type. He was of a good size for his age and was developing well with a firm body and medium height legs in proportion to the body size and which had short paws. Broad skull shape that was well rounded and had medium sized ears that were well placed on top. The nose had a correct slight dip in profile and was of medium length but with a slight bump at the tip and a dark seal brown nose leather. The cheeks were filling out well and he had a slightly tapering chin with a perfect level bite. Almost round shaped eyes had good blue eye colour and pleasing expression. The tail was bushy and of correct proportion to the body length and the coat was long and had a silky soft texture without a ruff at present but still to develop and was a pale beige shade and very clear. The mask was not fully covering the face yet and together with the ears were a good seal brown colour and matching but the legs and tail were a shade paler. All foot markings were pure white and he had gloves that were slightly scalloped but otherwise were well matched on the upper side of the paw. On the underside, the right hand glove had a little flick of white on the edge to one side but was attached to the main body of white. The socks were level and matching and the gauntlets were nearly matching with the right hand one very slightly longer and more tapered than the left. A well presented kitten who handled well and having a sweet temperament. Seal Point Birman Kitten Female1 and BOB Welch’s RYUICHI ADRIANAAn older kitten of seven months of age who has been developing well and who has good birman type. She had a strong body shape that was firm and well muscled set on thick legs with good boning and short strong rounded paws. Good balance to head which was broad and rounded and had medium size ears that were spaced well apart. Beautiful eyes that were almost round in shape of large size with good blue eye colour that was very deep in the centre and pleasing birman expression. Medium length nose had a slight dip at the nasal bridge with a seal brown nose leather. Cheek width was very good and was still filling out and she had an excellent firm well developed chin that was slightly tapered. The mask was a mid to dark seal brown and almost covering the face but was showing slight brindling on the face below the eyes. Her coat was lovely and full, of pale beige with a silky texture, showing a ruff starting to develop and had a slight golden hue over the shoulders. The tail was also full, bushy and of medium length but showing slight brindling at the tail base and was a paler shade than the head and ear points. She had pristine white foot markings. The gloves were a touch low and slightly scalloped going up a little at the sides of the paw but otherwise were very well matched. The socks were level and symmetrical while the gauntlets were not identical having the left one a lot broader and blunt while the right hand one was narrower and tapering but both were almost the same length. Show temperament was good and she was well presented. Red Cream or Tortie Point Birman KittenWrong Colour Tarr’s TARKUSHA TALLULAHA pretty kitten of three months of age who was listed in my judges’ book as a lilac cream but on inspection did not have a correct colour nose leather or food pads for a lilac cream kitten all being a very bright pink and not a lilac pink shade. Also the fur markings on her face mask were clearly a rather dark shade of blue and shades of light and dark cream instead of lilac intermingled with shades of cream. She was therefore wrong coloured and not judged as her breed number specified. In my opinion she appeared to be a blue tortie point birman kitten. Birman head features were correct as she had a well rounded broad head with well set medium size ears showing intermingled blue and cream. The eyes had good blue colour and were bright and alert. She had a correct profile and well grown body for her age. MISCELLANEOUS CLASSESAC Persian Non-Self Breeders Adult1 Peter’s ZAMBAKIE PRESIOUSOMEA black smoke female that was balanced in head and body with pleasing pretty persian type and who was just over a year old. She has medium build with a cobby body shape set on short thick legs with large rounded paws. Broad skull width with a rounded forehead and neat ear set, widely spaced with silver ear feathers. Broad fat muzzle with full apple cheeks, a short nose which had a good nose break and full black nose leather. She had a strong chin and a perfect level bite. Very noticeable large round eyes with good copper colour and bold expression. The coat was long and full with a lovely long silver frill and was a dense black over the head, mask, legs and body with silvery shading to the flanks and the underbelly. The undercoat was ash white extending up one third of the hair shaft. The tail was extremely short and was well feathered. Show presentation was good and she was a relaxed cat when handled. 2 Colin’s TALSHIAR LIMITED- EDITIONAn eleven month old lilac cream female who had good type and was a solid well built cat with strong short legs and large paws. Very broad top of head with well set ears that were small and spaced far apart. Large eyes that were fully round but had eye colour that was orange and could have been deeper. Fat cheeks and a short narrow nose that had a very strong nose break and tiny small lilac nose leather. Good width of muzzle and an extremely strong balanced chin with a scissor bite. The coat was long and full and was well intermingled with lilac and cream over the head, tail and body and she had good fluffy trousers and a short very full tail. 3 Angus’s CH PALCHINNO SEANYMPHA one year old blue cream and white girl. Cobby body on squat legs that was firm solid and well grown. AC Persian Non-Self Non-Breeders Adult1 Ambler’s TYTHERTON RALPH LAURENA one year old red and white boy who was displaying many quality attributes and had a very solid feel to body and limbs. He was stretched out in a double pen and had a shapely cobby body set low on sturdy legs. The chest was broad and he had a massive rump with huge tufted paws. Wonderful broad top of head that was smooth and rounded with small ears fitting neatly into the skull contours. Stunning bold eyes that were of large size and rounded in shape and had super deep copper colour. Broad flat face with a short snub nose that had a full pink nose leather. He had a scissor bite and a firm muzzle. The cheeks were well filled and he had a firm chin which could have been deeper as the lower face appeared a little weak needing to balance the great width of the top of head. There were mid red patches around the base of his ears and a white stripe running over his forehead and top of head while the lower face was totally white. He had a fabulous very full, long and glamorous coat that was thick and flowing with a wonderful full frill framing his face and a superb short fully plumed red tail. The body was mainly a sparkling white with a white bib and underside. A large red patch covered the lower back and another over the shoulders. The texture was lovely being soft and full of life and superbly groomed down to the last hair. A chap with a super nature who was totally relaxed and in excellent form. AC Birman, Turkish Van or Vankedisi Breeders Adult1 Goulter’s SHADYCOMBE CAPTJACKSPARROWAn auburn turkish van male who is not yet a year and a half but already showing signs of pleasing maturity developing. He had a well balanced head and body that were well proportioned. Head shape was a broad wedge with moderately large ears set very close and high on the head and had good ear feathers. Correct profile with a fairly long nose, fully white, with a hint of a dip at the nasal bridge and with a full pink nose leather. Oval shaped eyes which were large and very expressive had medium amber colour showing a slight greenish rim at present and with distinct pink edging. The chin was firm and he had a level bite. The head markings were auburn and were correctly placed and symmetrical. His forehead had a vertical white blaze between the eyes and running between the auburn markings on his head. He had a long strong body, well muscled with medium height legs with good boning and well rounded neat feet. The body was totally chalky white and the coat was long and soft with a silky texture. The tail was of medium length in proportion to the body length and was solid auburn with a centrally placed darker auburn line running down its length on the upper surface. Good presentation and a gentle temperament. 2 Brigliadori and Robson’s CH SHWECHINTHE AURORAA fourteen month old cream birman female with very good type who had good body length with strong well muscled legs of medium height and which had short strong paws. Good head shape that was broad and rounded with well sited ears of medium size. The profile was correct having a medium length nose which had a slight dip at the nasal bridge and a full pink nose leather. Eyes had mid blue eye colour and were large, almost round in shape with pleasing alert expression. Full cheeks gave her face good width and she had a level bite and a firm balanced chin. Her mask almost covered the face fully and was a pretty shade of cream which matched the ears and other points very well with only the leg colour slightly paler in hue. The tail was bushy and of medium length being in proportion to the body length. The coat was lovely and clear, silky in texture and soft to touch with a good ruff around the neck and was a lovely off white colour over the body. The paws were pure white and she had well matching gloves that were symmetrical and level. The socks were also evenly marked and she had gauntlets that were almost level and matching. A gentle girl who has a sweet nature who was well presented. 3 Ensor’s KITTAH ARTEMISA tortie birman girl of ten months of age who had a strong muscular body that was well grown and long with sturdy legs of medium height. She had a strong head shape with a broad rounded skull with medium size ears that were sited far apart but having short ear tufts which I would have liked to have been absent as they made her ears look taller than they were. The profile had a medium length nose with a slight dip along the length and with a slight nose bump at the tip. She had full cheeks which gave her face good width and a level bite with a firm chin that tapered slightly. Eyes were almost round in shape and had excellent deep blue eye colour with good expression. The mask on her face was showing well intermingled tortie colouring of seal brown and shades of red and were also intermingled on her ears. The tail was paler in colour but was well furnished and had some tortie colouring present but the leg markings were of paler red shades only that were hard to distinguish. The coat was long and full and was fawn over the body with a golden saddle over her shoulders and back. The foot markings were a clean white with gloves that were fairly well matched on the upper surface but the left one was reaching near the stop on the underside and it was hard to see if it extended beyond that point as the colour of the fur on the feet was so pale so she was given the benefit of doubt. The socks were a reasonable match and the gauntlets were full but not quite matching in length. A good natured girl when handled who was well prepared. AC Birman. Turkish Van or Vankedisi Non-Breeders Adult1 Allen’s GR CH CARAMLEIGH SPRINGTIME BEAUA mature red tabby birman boy just over two years old with good birman features. The profile had a medium length nose with a slight dip and showing a slight nose bump and a pink nose leather. The cheeks had good width and the chin was firm and slightly tapering. The mask covered the face well and was showing clear tabby features of rich red markings on a lighter apricot agouti ground colour. He had a clear ‘M’ on his forehead and there were paler spectacles around the almost round eyes which were of a mid blue shade. The other points were a paler in colour with barring to the limbs not clear on the legs but the tail which was of medium length and fairly bushy, did have just a hint of tabby rings along its length. The coat on the body was medium to long and was very soft and silky and was a lovely, clear pale cream shade with a golden saddle visible on his back. He had a slight ruff present and the tummy fur was slightly curly. The foot markings were clean and pure white. The gloves were level and matching having a straight line across the paw and the socks also were symmetrical and matching. The gloves were sparkling white but somewhat short and the right hand one had an untidy edge. The socks were almost matching and level while the gauntlets were short and only running half way towards the hock. Well mannered cat when handled. The profile had a slight dip at the nasal bridge and the nose was of medium length with a blue nose leather. The cheeks were still filling out and he had a firm balanced chin and a level bite. The coat was soft and very silky in texture and was a clear glacial bluish white and covered his frame well. A ruff was starting to develop and the tail was of medium length and was well furnished. He had short strong paws with pure white foot markings. The gloves and socks were neat and matching and the gauntlets were well shaped and symmetrical. A sweet natured boy who was lovely to handle. 2 Read’s KYLERHEA INDIGOAn eight month old tortie and white norwegian forest cat who had good type with a well grown and balanced head and body. She was a large female for her age, of a good weight with a well muscled body supported on strong legs with the hind legs set higher than the forelimbs. Triangular shaped head with large ears, open at the base and showing intermingled tortie colours of brown and shades of red which were well placed and with short ear tufts. Her profile was very good, very straight with no break showing a good tortie blaze and in line with a strong balanced chin. Oval shaped eyes had a slight oblique setting in the face with yellowish eye colour and pleasing expression. Long bushy tail that reached the shoulders, fully coloured and with a light tip to the tail. Semi-long coat which had bright tortie colours on the head, face and body and was glossy with a ruff developing and was well presented. 3 Hall’s NORSKMAGI WHISPERA tortie silver tabby and white norwegian forest cat of seven months. She had a triangular shaped head with an excellent straight profile, good ear set with feathers, oblique set eyes with yellowish eye colour. Tabby markings were very clear on head and body but tortie colours were rather dull and not bright on the body. AC Persian Self Breeders Neuter1 Howes’s GR CH and GR PR HONEYMIST CREAM DESERTSTARA nine year old cream boy who had pleasing persian type with a well grown cobby body shape set low on short thick legs. Broad head had a well rounded skull with neat ears sited far apart. Broad nose that was short and with a strong nose break and a pink nose leather. The muzzle was broad and he had full cheeks, a strong balanced chin and a scissor bite. The eyes were fully round and large with good orange eye colour that was good to see in a chap who is no longer a youngster. The coat was full and long with fluffy trousers and a short bushy tail and was a mid shade of cream which was just a little shady in places but was soft and in good condition. A very well presented fellow who is in excellent condition for his age and is a credit to his owner/breeder. AC Persian Self Non-Breeders Neuter1 Stanbridge’s GR PR LEEROMAX JAYCEEA seven year old chocolate boy with a cobby shape set low on strong thick legs. A well built chap who has a firm solid body well clothed in pleasing medium warm chocolate coat that was sound and even in colour. He has rather old fashioned type with a broad head and medium size ears that were well sited on the skull. The eyes were large and round with chocolate eye rims but had pale yellow eye colour which has sadly faded with the years as I have seen them before when they had better colour. The nose was of medium length and was broad and had a shallow nose break with a chocolate nose leather. His cheeks were needing more fullness and the muzzle more width. He had a scissor bite with some incisors missing and he had a firm chin. The tail was short and in proportion to the body length. A good natured cat who was in general good condition allowing for his age and who was well presented but would not merit a high award in an open class on account of his pale eye colour.
