Many thanks to Linda and Elaine for the invitation to judge at the Yorkshire Cat Club Show. Also a big thank you to Les Hall and his niece Jess for stewarding for me, I hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did and I look forward to the next time. I had some excellent cats finishing with a wonderful line up for Best in Show.
My overall Best in Show was Mrs Bruno-Grieve’s Gr Ch Flutterby Conquistador a very handsome Chocolate Point Siamese boy of just over two years of age. He has a strong, well proportioned wedge which narrows in straight lines to a fine muzzle. Pleasing profile line with gentle rounding over top of head and straightening at brow to a perfect line to tip. Level bite and firm chin. Large, flared ears well set to follow the line of the wedge. Intense blue colour to eyes, oriental in shape and set slanting towards the nose and with a wonderful ‘snooty’ expression. Lovely size and weight to long, elegant, well muscled body with proportionate length, slim legs and neat oval paws. Long, tapering tail balances body. Short and close lying coat of excellent, fine texture. Warm toned, chocolate colour to points, marginally paler on feet and virtually clear of shading to ivory body colour. Every inch a winner from his designer looks to his wonderful temperament.

Sturdy male approaching two years of age. Excellent head has very full cheeks and good breadth to skull and rounded top of head of good width between ears set far apart with a slight forward tilt, medium in size and rounded at the tips. In profile he has a strongly rounded brow, definite nose break and short, straight nose. Broad nose, good width to gently rounded muzzle, level bite and fair depth chin. Good size and shape to orange eyes when he looked up at me and set well apart. Excellent size and weight to cobby body with good muscle tone, short level back, low on legs and with a full, broad, deep chest. Proportionate length, strong legs and large, rounded paws. Slightly long tail is thicker at base and rounded at tip. Short, thick, dense coat of fairly crisp texture. British Black of even black colour which fades very minimally to roots. Excellent temperament.

Well balanced three and a half year old boy of good size and weight with good muscle tone. Broad head has full cheeks to a round face with good breadth to skull and rounded top of head with good width between the ears set far apart to follow the outer contours of the head, medium in size and rounded at tips. Strong profile line with rounded brow, defined nose break and short broad nose which has a minimal bump. Level bite and firm chin. Large and well open eyes set wide apart, slightly pale blue in colour. Excellent size, weight and muscle tone to cobby body with a fairly short, level back, low on legs and with a full, broad, deep chest. Strong, well boned legs and firm, rounded paws. Medium length tail is thicker at base and rounded at tip. Coat is a trifle long but with excellent density and fairly crisp texture. Cream Colourpointed British with fairly cool toned cream points, feet and legs slightly paler and creamy white body colour with minimal shading. Faint tabby markings on legs and rings on tail. Super temperament.

Nice in profile with rounded brow, medium nose break and short, straight, nose. Level bite but shallow chin. Large and well open, deep green eyes set wide apart and neatly outlined in black. Short neck to compact body which has a short level back, is low on legs and with a well rounded, deep chest. Short, well boned legs but slightly dainty, rounded paws. Medium length tail is thicker at base and rounded at tip. Coat is a trifle long but with good density and fairly crisp texture. Lovely even black tipping over a silvery white undercoat, slightly more intense at base of spine and down tail. Bright pink nose outlined in black. Sweet natured.

Nineteen month old boy, excellently grown, substantial and well balanced. Very good head shows short wedge from the tip of the nose to eyes which is equidistant to the eyes to ears. Flat appearance to top of head between the ears. Nicely prominent whisker pads making a broad muzzle. Blue nose leather. Lovely in profile with straight forehead to upper eye level, slight angle at eye line then nose line is straight to tip. Level bite but slightly shallow chin. Large, pointed ears, wide at base and set perfectly vertically with the outer line following the outer contours of the face. Largish eyes set wide apart, almond in shape with a gentle expression and vivid green in colour. Large, long and well muscled body of medium bone with long, proportionate boned legs to balance body and oval paws. Good length, gently tapering tail which balances body length. Lovely plushy double coat, with dense undercoat, fine and soft in texture, short and upstanding. Russian Blue of lovely even, medium blue colour to coat with a distinct silvery sheen to rounded areas. Faint rings on tail. Super temperament. Note to self, need larger pockets!

Devon Rex boy of two and a half years of age. Head has fairly short wedge of good breadth with good width at cheek bones, nice muzzle, level bite but slightly shallow chin. In profile brow curves back to flat skull, fairly good stop and reasonably short nose. Well defined whisker break. Large ears are set low and wide apart, wide at base, tapering to rounded tips and well covered in fur with nice ear muffs around the bases and short tufts to the tips. Large, yellow, oval shaped eyes with a ‘cheeky’ expression are set wide apart and slope towards outer edges of ears. Very good size and weight to body with good muscle tone and with a good broad chest. Proportionate length, elegant legs and dainty oval paws. Good length, tapering tail well covered in fur with a light wave to it and a curl to the fur at the tip. Coat is fairly short and dense over the body, sparse on chest, light wave over body and down on to legs. Short eyebrows and no whiskers. Lovely temperament.

Slightly darker overtones to colour down back and tail. Good facial markings with ‘M’ on face, pencil lines on cheeks and vertical streaks over head. Nice definition to large spots on body, slight downward linkage back from shoulders. Broken lines and spots on legs, rings on tail and spots on tummy. Good breadth to medium wedge with rounded contours, high cheek bones and head correctly small in proportion to body. Profile shows gentle curve from forehead to bridge of nose, slight concave curve to nose then line is straight to tip. Nice muzzle, level bite and fair depth, rounded chin. Pronounced whisker pads. Medium sized ears follow the outer contours of the head, wide at base and rounded at tips. Almond shaped, mid-blue eyes, large and correctly slanted towards the base of the ear. Bit naughty but nice.

Well balanced and of excellent size and weight to large body, solid and muscular, square rump and good breadth to chest giving a rectangular appearance. Proportionate length, well boned legs and huge paws with tufts emanating from under paws. Long tail, wide at base and tapering towards the tip and with excellent, full flowing fur. Super coat with good undercoat, fur shorter on head, neck and shoulders with good length down back and flanks. Good breeches, shaggy belly fur and super frontal ruff. Brown Tabby and White Maine Coon of golden brown ground colour with clearly defined black and deep brown classic pattern with white to end of nose, chin, chest, centre of tummy, front paws and back boots. Excellent temperament.

Well prepared two and a half year old boy. Head is medium in length and of good breadth being slightly less than the length with fairly full cheeks and high cheek bones. In profile slight dip at the nasal bridge then line is straight to tip. Good, large ears, wide at base, set high but well apart and tapering to appear pointed at tips with tall tufts and long feathering. Large, yellow eyes spaced wide apart and with slightly oblique aperture and set. Good square muzzle with a fair depth chin and level bite. Good weight to body with good muscle tone, square rump and good breadth to chest give a rectangular appearance. To be really picky I would prefer him larger. Proportionate length, well boned legs and large rounded paws with tufts emanating from under paws. Moderately long neck. Long tail, wide at base and tapering towards the tip and with long, full fur. Good undercoat with good length glossy top coat of good texture. Good breeches and shaggy belly fur, full frontal ruff. Brown Tabby Maine Coon with warmish tone to ground colour and a good black classic pattern. Lovely gentle nature.

Full and round shape to yellow eyes, spaced wide apart and with slightly oblique aperture and set. Broad muzzle which I would prefer with a squarer look, level bite but slightly shallow chin. Excellent size and weight to body with good muscle tone, square rump and good breadth to chest giving a rectangular appearance. Proportionate length, well boned legs and large rounded paws with tufts emanating from under paws. Long tail, wide at base and tapering towards the tip and with long, profuse fur. Good undercoat with length still developing to top coat. Good breeches and shaggy belly fur, some frontal ruff. Brown Tabby and White Maine Coon of grey-brown ground colour, I would prefer a warmer tone but with a good, black classic pattern and nice facial markings. White to inverted ‘V’ on face, bib, centre of tummy, back legs and all four paws. Lovely temperament.

Huge, very weighty, particularly around the middle, cobby body with a level back, low on legs and with a full, broad, deep chest. Short, strong, well boned legs and large, rounded paws. Medium length, thick tail is rounded at tip. Fairly short, dense coat with a crisp texture. Blue and White Bi-Coloured British of sound medium to deeper blue with excellent definition to the white which was pristine.

Strong, well boned legs and firm, rounded paws. Thick, medium length tail. Coat is fairly short with excellent density and fairly crisp texture. Cream Bi-Coloured and White of rather dark cream for my preference with faint tabby markings and with verging on 50% white which was broken with the odd coloured spots. Nice natured.

Good in profile with slight nose break then nose is straight to tip. Level bite and fair depth chin. Large ears set wide apart, pricked with furry inner edges and tufts at tips. Large, golden coloured eyes set well apart, full almond shape and oriental in set. Medium build and size to lithe, muscular body with a straight back and rounded rib cage, lacking substance on haunches, possibly end of working summer. Slender legs of proportionate length to body and small oval paws. Tail is thicker at base, tapering gently to tip and of good length to balance body. Coat is short, fine, close lying and dense in texture. Usual Abyssinian of ruddy orange base colour with black ticking showing distinct bands of colour. Faint pigmentation lines from eye to top of head and lines on cheeks. Apricot hair around eyes and dark edge to eyelids. Ruddy orange ears with darker tone at tips. Pale chin and lips. Black ticking colour extending down spine and tail to a black tip and up the hocks. Handled OK.
