Yorkshire County Cat Club 25.10.08

Mrs Val Anderson

Many thanks to Lynda & her team for the invite to this popular show. It was my first visit to the Yorkshire and it was a special occasion as it was their 80th Championship Show. Thanks too to Gina Yates for stewarding. I enjoyed out day together, Gina was good company, handled the cats with care and showed an interest in the different breeds. I hope we can work together again.

OPEN CLASSES

ORIGINAL FOREIGN PREMIER MALE

GPC ANDERSON’S CH & GR PR ANNALOVA LEONID (16a) MN 23.03.05 Russian Blue

A large yet elegant boy of 3 years. Broad masculine head with prominent whisker pads. Flat skull & good angle to the profile, but rather a dip to the profile. Deep chin that rounds off a touch & level bite. Large ears with a broad base though they could be more pointed; set vertically to the head. Large green almond-shaped eyes. Long muscular body with long legs & oval paws. Long tapering tail to balance. Dense short coat of a fine texture & reasonably soft. Even medium blue colour with good colour to the roots & a silvery sheen. Gentle nature & easy to handle though he didn’t like the look of the Sphynx next door!

RGPC MURPHY’S GR PR ADMONSH DEVILS ADVOCATE (33 31s) MN 06.07.01 Cornish Rex

An elegant & gentle black smoke & white boy of 7 years though he was happier in his pen & preferring to hide under his blanket. Head a medium wedge narrowing to a rounded muzzle. Flat skull, rounded brow but a slight dip to the profile. His bite appeared to be level but no front teeth left. Deep chin that rounds off a touch. Large ears of mussel-shell shape & set rather high. Large eyes that are a touch full. Elegant body but he could carry a little more weight. Long limbs & long tapering tail well-covered with wavy fur. Coat a little thin & slightly untidy on the body but he is well-covered with good rexing. The rexing on his limbs extends right down to his toes.

NORWEGIAN FOREST ADULT FEMALE

1ST CC WHITTLE’S NORSVANA VANJA AVSKATVAL (67 20a) F 24.10.06

A mature lady of just 2 years, strong & well-grown & of a good weight for her size. Triangular head with all sides equal & long straight profile. Deep chin that rounds off a touch at the tip. Level bite. Large ears set high & wide so as to follow the lines of the head, inner furnishing but no tufts. Large eyes of oval shape in a slightly oblique setting. Long body with good bone development, long limbs & long bushy tail. Dense coat with a ruff & knickerbockers. Double coat with a woolly undercoat & coarser topcoat. Blue tabby markings but possibly a silver? OK to handle but she was not in the best of mood s & was rather naughty when she returned to her pen.

2ND KIRK & JUHASZ’S NOYNAROCK CATALINA (67 31ts) F 07.11.07

A young elegant silver tabby & white girl of only 11 months, she needs to fill out & mature. Triangular head with all sides equal though her muzzle is a touch square but the white on her face doesn’t help. Straight profile, level bite & deep chin that rounds off a touch. Large tall ears with a broad base & not rounded, curly inner furnishing & small tufts. Large well-opened eyes of oval shape in an oblique setting. Long body carried high on long legs with reasonable bone, her tail could be a little longer for balance. Coat possibly in between stages, of a shorter length at present but with some ruff & good bushiness to the tail. Double coat but topcoat not fully developed yet. Good Norwegian expression, I liked the look of this young lady but she needs time to develop.

3RD LINDGREN’S JHARDUFAE SILVER STORM (67 31ts) F 27.09.07

A slightly older girl of 12 months though much heavier than Catalina. Triangular head but it is a fraction longer than wide at present. Rounded forehead & straight profile. Level bite but her chin could be deeper & stronger. Large ears set wide apart but set a little low. Eyes oval in shape & set obliquely but they could be larger & more wide open. Long body with reasonable bone, long limbs & round paws but they could be larger. Bushy tail that could do with a little more length for balance. Dense coat but soft & mainly undercoat as yet; guard hairs present but not glossy, the topcoat needs to develop.

BOB TWYMAN’S CH NORGESKAUKATT DRIFA (67 14) F 31.12.02

A shy white girl who preferred to be in her pen. A large very well-grown mature girl of 5 years with lots of coat & lovely strong bone. Triangular head but her profile could be straighter & her large blue eyes are of rounded oval shape. Elegant & powerful body with limbs & tail to balance. Beautifully prepared full coat with dense woolly undercoat covered with a smooth overcoat. I was torn between her & the male GR CH LANDSKER YMER who also competed for Best of Breed. In the end it was the girl’s sparkling white coat and excellent show condition that gave her the edge.

SNOW SPOTTED BENGAL ADULT MALE

1ST CC & BOB BUCKLEY’S CH SPOTTICATZ BARNABY (76b 30) M 10.08.05

A strong masculine blue-eyed boy of 3 years of a good weight for his size. Head a slightly rounded wedge just slightly longer than wide with high cheek bones. Large nose but his muzzle could be broader & rather a deep curve to the profile. His bite appeared to be level but I only had a brief glimpse. Well-set ears of medium size with a broad base & rounded tips. Very large eyes of a rounded oval shape, they are a touch full but of a lovely deep blue colour. Elegant & strong muscular body with limbs to balance. Medium length tail, thick at the base but tapering. Soft fine coat that could be denser but clearly spotted with large arrowhead spots on an ivory base though the spine line is still a bit solid. Good head markings, especially the lines on his cheeks. Spotted tummy & well-marked limbs. Spotted tummy & well-marked limbs. A gentle boy shown in lovely condition though happier in his pen.

SNOW SPOTTED BENGAL ADULT FEMALE

1ST CC BRADY’S ADSETSH ZSA ZSA (76a 30) F 03.06.07

There was a bit of confusion as she was in the wrong pen – I was rather surprised to find a brown marbled boy under her number instead of an aoc-eyed snow girl! Fortunately it was just a case of two cats from the same household getting muddled so I was able to judge the correct cat. A well-grown young girl of 16 months with a strong muscular body. Head a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with rounded contours. Large nose & square muzzle with pronounced whisker pads. Shallow concave curve to the profile, good chin and level bite. Well-set ears of medium size though they are rather tall. Expressive blue-green eyes of a rounded oval shape & set on a slight slant. Thick neck & muscular body with limbs to balance & medium length tail that tapers slightly. Lovely soft coat though the spotted pattern could be more distinct & the base clearer. Warm tan colour down the spine. Spotted tummy, ringed tail with a dark tip & well-marked limbs of spots & bars. Shown in lovely condition & sweet gentle nature.

2ND POWLEY’S SPOTTICATZ DECOSPOT BLISS (76b 30) F 24.04.06

A blue-eyed girl of 2½ years with a strong muscular body. Unfortunately not keen on other cats which made her difficult to assess & her bite was just about seen. Head slightly longer than wide & broad between the ears, rounded muzzle & pronounced whisker pads. Medium ears set wide apart & large blue eyes of rounded oval shape. Thick neck & strong muscular body with limbs to balance. Medium length tail but it could be thicker & tapers. Lovely dense soft coat with large spots on a warm ivory base. Good head markings. A pity she was not in the best of moods.

3RD NUTTER’S CLARENUS SPLISH SPLASH (76b 30) F 16.04.07

A younger girl of 18 months who was also not easy to handle, not a happy bunny today! Head a medium wedge with good width between the ears but rather narrow on the muzzle. Slight concave curve to the profile, bite not checked. Rather tall ears of medium size & oval blue eyes. Long muscular body with limbs & tail to balance. Soft dense coat but rather ticked, especially on the head & pale overall colour. Lots of small spots which could show more contrast with the base coat.

BROWN SPOTTED BENGAL KITTEN, MALE

1ST SWAN’S AFECTIONATE SIGNOR MARCEL (76 30) M 26.04.08

A well-grown boy of nearly 6 months with a striking coat pattern & lovely warm overall colour. Head a medium wedge longer than wide with rounded contours. Concave curve to the profile, good chin & level bite. Rather tall ears at present but set wide apart. Large eyes of rounded oval shape & set on a slant. Dark red nose leather. Long body with limbs to balance, moderately long but tapering tail with a dark tip. Soft coat though it could be denser; a little sleek at present. Large rosetted spots though tending to merge on the flanks. Warm golden base coat with good contrast. Spotted tummy & well-marked head & limbs. He didn’t like his neighbours which made him difficult to assess & he used my arm as a springboard to return to his pen!

BROWN SPOTTED BENGAL KITTEN, FEMALE

1ST & BOB HIBBS’S CHRISJAY BEWITCHED (76 30) F 29.05.08

A delightful kitten with a lovely sweet temperament; not quite 5 months of age and probably teething as she kept chewing my pencils! Head a medium wedge with slightly rounded contours & concave curve to the profile. Large nose & broad muzzle. Level bite. Well-set ears with a broad base & rounded tips. Large eyes of oval shape set on a slant, the colour developing. Well-grown girl with strong bone development. Muscular limbs & large feet. Tail rather long but thick at the base & only slightly tapering. Lovely density to her coat which is soft & luxurious. Well-spotted with large arrowhead spots but the base could be clear to show more contrast. Spotted tummy, well-marked limbs & ringed tail with a dark tip.

2ND FOUNTAIN’S DECOSPOT BARBARELLA (76 30) F 04.05.08

A slightly older kitten of 6 months who didn’t like the boy next door. Head slightly longer than wide with a large nose & broad but square muzzle. Concave cure to the profile, level bite & shallow rounded chin. Well-set ears with a broad base & rounded tips but they are rather tall. Large greeny-coloured eyes of oval shape & set on a slant. Long body that needs to muscle up. Long legs & round paws, tail of medium length & thick at the base but tapering. Soft coat of a warm gingery overall colour but the spotted pattern could be more distinct. Spotted tummy, good leg markings & ringed tail with a dark tip.

3RD HIBBS’S CHRISJAY TIA MARIA (76 30) F 14.06.08

At 4 months the youngest kitten in the class but well-grown with a strong muscular body. Head a medium wedge slightly longer than wide with a shallow concave curve to the profile. Bite not checked as she hated having it done. Ears not too large but held a little upright, maybe this will improve as her head broadens with age? Large eyes a little full & round. Long muscular body with limbs to balance. Good tail especially for a young kitten, thick at the base. Soft dense coat of a darker overall colour with arrowhead spots on a golden base. Spotted tummy. Shown in lovely condition but handled mainly in her pen.
