A brief selection from Council yesterday.
The
one thing that will affect everyone was that fees for registration and
transfer will be raised from 1st Jan, by £1 for each category. They are
increased periodically any way to keep pace with inflation and rising
cost, but the financial picture generally was gloomy, with the
recession bringing a downturn in registrations. I expect we'll be
hearing much more of this. We're probably entering the tunnel at
present, too soon for any light at the end, let's just hope it doesn't
become the proverbial downward spiral to a black hole.
Only
one part of the NCC proposals was taken, and that was the paper vote on
whether there should be a Supreme next year. It was decided that there
should by quite a wide margin, 81- 53. However, the Supreme is on
course for a substantial loss again this year, £44K was the projected
amount. It was estimated that GCCF is subsidising each and every
exhibit to the tune of £35. Clearly that can't go on. We were told the
NEC hasn't been booked for next year and that the Supreme Committee
plans to break even in 2009. I did ask for some info on this 'cunning
plan', but had no direct answer, so will have to wait for more to be
revealed in February.
The
Chairman postponed the other NCC proposals for the next meeting, as
there was no particular urgency, to move forward to deal with the HPs
which was dealt with very rapidly at the end of the meeting and
approved. I was disappointed there wasn't more time for discussion and
heard one or two grumbles about this, but they had been on the table
for some time.
The
proposals from the Lincs CC and Notts & Derby CC were not
successful. If carried these would have replaced the Open Class with a
pre-champion one that excluded titled cats. The suggestion for a
business plan from EC each year that Council would have to approve if
amendments were made was felt to be unworkable in the manner proposed,
but EC was going to look at it to find a viable way of producing an
annual financial plan. The proposal of using veterinary students in
their final year, and additionally veterinary triage nurses, met
approval in principle, but needed rewording to make it applicable only
to those who had or would have qualifications that enabled them to
practice in UK.
All breed promotions, judges, SOP and registration policy changes were approved.
